(Job 42.6) Right to Life From Kathleen Gallagher at the New York State Catholic Conference: On Monday January 12th, the NYS Senate advanced their own Women’s Equality Agenda (not the Governor’s “Women’s Equality Act”) by passing 8 bills aimed at assisting women and outlawing discrimination against them. The bills are num- bered Senate 1 through 8 and mirror the non-abortion-related elements of the Governor’s Act. Thus they include Senator Andrew Lanza’s important Trafficking Victims Protection and Justice Act (S.7), Senator Diane Savino’s pay equity bill (S.1), and Senator Kemp Hannon’s bill to eliminate pregnancy discrimination in the workplace (S.8). All of the bills passed the Sen- ate by a unanimous vote of 62 to 0.
