Journal of Interdisciplinary Science Topics The Calorific Requirements of a Human Theme Park Jason Schneider Honours Integrated Science Program, McMaster University 22/03/2017 Abstract The purpose of this paper is to examine the amount of calorific energy required to operate a roller coaster small enough to fit inside the human body. It was found that relative to the amount of energy in food, a miniaturized roller coaster initially designed to be fairly large would require little energy at only 9.27×10-10 kcal per day. Introduction jumps on a pulmonary alveolus while inside of In the television show Rick and Morty, Ruben (a Ruben’s lung. • On Evaluative Conceptualizations of Swear Words and Invectives By
Athens Journal of Philology - Volume 4, Issue 3 – Pages 201-218 On Evaluative Conceptualizations of Swear Words and Invectives By Hans-Harry Drößiger The article deals with evaluative conceptualizations of swear words and invectives in specialized literature on linguistics, although the number of scholarly papers directly thematizing swear words and invectives is rather small. The findings concerning the ways in which swear words and invectives are conceptualized will be presented in the form of theses. For this reason, a number of papers by scholars from Germany, Great Britain, Lithuania, Spain, Sweden, Italy and Ukraine will be quoted as much as is necessary to get an overview of the notion and status of research into swear words and invectives. Furthermore, these observations enable the elicitation of usual evaluative conceptualizations of swear words and invectives. The spectrum of these conceptualizations spreads from absolutely negative to almost positive forms, representing not only the attitudes of scholars, but also those of the language and culture communities, towards the phenomenon. The three aspects of notion, research status, and evaluative conceptualization present a complete picture of how to comprehend swear words and invectives as academic research objects in their own right. Keywords: Evaluative conceptualization, Invective, Linguistics, Swear word, Translation studies Introduction During the pre-research for this topic, it became clear that the lexical- semantic category swear word and the linguistic-communicative category invective were understood and described differently in several theoretical linguistic papers. This was the starting point for a deeper investigation to seek an answer to the question of how swear words and invectives are comprehended by checking the notions associated with them and looking at the ways in which they were conceptualized.

    >> Welcome to the podcast series of Raising the Bar Sydney. Raising the bar in 2019, so 21 University of Sydney academics take their research out of the lecture theatre and into bars across Sydney, all on one night. In this podcast, you’ll hear Alexander Lafedge [phonetic] talk, Where do Your Values Come From. Enjoy the talk. [applause] >> Hi everyone. Thanks for coming. Can you hear me in the back? Yeah, you’re good. Okay. So, thanks everyone for coming. I want to start tonight with a short story of my first Aussie Christmas. So, I came here in 2010 with my wife and my small child, and for the first few years we kept on going back to Canada to celebrate Christmas with family, but in 2016, we stayed put, and we were looking forward to Aussie Christmas. Now, I like in Coogee. I was ready to get my barbecue on. I put on my flip flops. I won’t call them thongs because that’s means something totally different where I’m from, and I headed down to the beach. Now, does anyone remember 2016 Coogee Beach? I don’t know if you were there, but there was something going on there, and it was as the kids say, off the hook. So there’s this party, and this is the party that was so big and so loud and so trashy in the lateral sense that it led to the enduring liquor ban at Coogee still till today, and a few days later the party made the cover of the New York Times for its wildness and its excess.
