MARCH 2018 Obsidio: The Illuminae Files_03 Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

From bestselling author duo Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff comes the exciting finale in the trilogy that broke the mould and has been called 'stylistically mesmerizing' and 'out-of-this-world-awesome.'

Description Asha Grant came to Kerenza to escape her past. Too bad he just caught up with her.

Asha survived BeiTech's initial assault and has been working undercover with the hopelessly outmatched resistance ever since. That, and figuring out what to do with the secret she's stashed in the crawlspace. The last thing she expected to worry about was her ex-boyfriend, but Rhys Lindstrom just landed planetside, and he's looking finer than ever in his new BeiTech uniform. Is he her way out - or a guarantee she never gets off this frozen rock alive?

But Asha's not the only one with problems. Her cousin Kady's ragtag band of survivors are headed for Kerenza - without enough oxygen to last the journey. Oh, and there might be an insurrection brewing. But when have little things like that ever stopped the Illuminae Group?

Too bad time isn't on their side. With BeiTech hurrying to repair their damaged jump gate, and a mass extermination planned for the Kerenza civilians, only a miracle could save them now. And everyone knows that miracles are just statistical probabilities ... right?

From bestselling author duo Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff - and once again featuring select journal entries from Marie Lu-comes the heart-stopping, heartbreaking finale in the trilogy that broke the mould and has been called 'stylistically mesmerizing' and 'out-of-this-world-awesome.'

A & U Children MARCH 2018 Illuminae: The Illuminae Files_01 Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Kady and Ezra thought their break-up was messy until they witnessed their entire world literally falling apart. Now they're are piecing together what's left of their lives, and their romance, and trying to survive an intergalactic war.

Description THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

The year is 2575, and two rival mega-corporations are at war over a planet that's little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, exes Kady and Ezra - who are barely even talking to each other - are forced to fight their way onto the evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But the warship is the least of their problems. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results. The fleet's AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what the hell is going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it's clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she'd never speak to again.

Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth and the courage of everyday heroes.

The exhilarating sequel to the New York Times bestselling and award-winning Illuminae.

Description Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna's social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed.

The saga that began with the breakout bestseller Illuminae continues on board the space station Heimdall, where two new characters will confront the next wave of BeiTech's assault. Hanna is the station captain's pampered daughter, Nik the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while they are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy's most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed to Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion.

When an elite BeiTech team invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together to defend their home. But alien predators are picking off the crew one by one, and a malfunction in the station's wormhole means the space-time continuum may be ripped in two before dinner. Soon, Hanna and Nik aren't just fighting for their own survival. The fate of everyone on the Hypatia - and possibly in the known universe - is in their hands.

But relax. They've totally got this. They hope.

The poignant story of a toy kangaroo that goes to war with a young man who doesn't come back.

Description When her brother, James, went to war, Annie stitched the name Digger onto her toy kangaroo and gave him to James as a farewell present. 'A Digger for a digger,' she said, hugging her brother. 'I'll keep him safe,' James promised.

In the final battle for the throne, Amani must fight for everything she believes in, but with the rebellion in pieces, and the Sultan's armies advancing across the desert plains, who will lead, who will triumph, who will live and who will die?

The second installment of this highly-acclaimed trilogy, Traitor to the Throne throws the irrepressible Amani into a world of espionage, harems, and the Sultan himself.

Description This is not about blood or love. This is about treason. Nearly a year has passed since Amani and the rebels won their epic battle at Fahali. Amani has come into both her powers and her reputation as the Blue-Eyed Bandit, and the Rebel Prince's message has spread across the desert - and some might say out of control. But when a surprise encounter turns into a brutal kidnapping, Amani finds herself betrayed in the cruellest manner possible. Stripped of her powers and her identity, and torn from the man she loves, Amani must return to her desert-girl's instinct for survival. For the Sultan's palace is a dangerous one, and the harem is a viper's nest of suspicion, fear and intrigue. Just the right place for a spy to thrive... But spying is a dangerous game, and when ghosts from Amani's past emerge to haunt her, she begins to wonder if she can trust her own treacherous heart.

QED MARCH 2018 Brain Lab for Kids: 52 Mind-Blowing Experiments, Models, and Activities to Explore Neuroscience Eric H. Chudler

Brain Lab for Kids is an interactive and hands-on book that takes readers on an exciting journey into the functions of the brain through enlightening experiments and creative activities.

And so, Brain Lab for Kids offers 52 family-friendly activities, experiments, and models to help us understand how the brain accomplishes all that it does. Each lab in this book is divided into several sections. After the title of each lab, the approximate time it will take to do the experiment is listed. The 'Methods' section provides a step-by-step guide of the procedures and materials you will need to complete the lab. The science behind an experiment is explained in the 'What's Going On' section. 'Brain Facts' are some interesting, fun, and perhaps surprising bits of trivia related to each lab. Finally, 'Thinking Deeper' has suggestions that you can use to take each lab further. A & U Children MARCH 2018 Naveed: Through My Eyes John Heffernan, edited by Lyn White

A heartfelt story of a teenage boy living in the conflict zone of Afghanistan.

Description The explosion jolts him awake. He sits up, gasping for air, heart thumping.

Was the blast real? Perhaps it had only happened in his head, a bad dream. Demons of the dark, his father had called them. 'Push them away. They'll only poison your thoughts. Seek the light and they can't hurt you.'

Naveed is sick of war - of the foreign powers and the Taliban, the warlords and the drug barons that together have torn Afghanistan apart. He's had to grow up quickly to take care of his widowed mother and little sister, making what little money he can doing odd jobs and selling at the markets. When he adopts Nasera, a street dog with extraordinary abilities, he has a chance to help rebuild his country. But will a new friend's betrayal crush his dreams of peace forever?

From the winter of war comes the spring of hope.

'Naveed brings a human face to a war we have heard so much about. John Heffernan has allowed us an important glimpse into the world of an Afghan child and an insight into the complexity and beauty of the Afghan people. In Naveed, we have a name for the thousands of Afghan children who are suffering through this terrible war. Through his optimism, we are offered hope.' - Neil Grant, author of The Ink Bridge

About the Author John Heffernan lives in the New England Tablelands of New South Wales. He has written more than fifty books for young readers, over a wide range of genres and age groups. His books have won numerous awards. A journey through Afghanistan led to an ongoing interest in that country, and inspired the writing of Naveed. John writes with integrity and honesty, and his experience as a teacher has been invaluable in his writing and in his relationship with his readers.
