JOHN COWAN - SIXTY [DELUXE EDITION] Compass 4630 Release date: 8/26/14 1. The Things I Haven’t Done (Bruce Coughlan) Bruce Coughlan Music (SESAC) The opening track, by Bruce Coughlan, a talented singer-songwriter from British Columbia with whom I’ve had the privilege of collaborating over the years, captures the theme of Sixty: I’ve been blessed with an amazing life and career. As with most of us, my journey has not been without loss and sacrifice, but by and large, I’ve been able to make a living doing what I love. One of the joys in my life has been to sing on records of people I admire greatly. Singing on Rodney Crowell’s recordings since the landmark “Houston Kid,” has been a source of great pride and satisfaction for me. I was a fan of his long before our lives intersected and we became friends. Having Rod on this song means very much to me. Alison Brown - Banjo | Rodney Crowell - Background Vocal, Lead Vocal on Bridge | Danny Flowers - Harmonica | Jim Pugh - B3 Organ | Ed Toth - Drums | John Cowan - Bass | John McFee - Acoustic 6 and 12-String Guitars, Electric 12-String Guitar, Pedal Steel, Vocals 2. Why Are You Crying (Rick Roberts) Hori Pro Entertainment Group Inc. dba Sixteen Stars Music (BMI)/Reservoir 416 (BMI) After dropping out of my first year of college in Indiana (where I seemingly confused GPA with THC), I moved back to Louisville, Kentucky, to pursue “the dream.” While working in a car wash full time and playing music on the weekends, I met a budding young concert promoter by the name of Rusty Lovell.

  • BOBBY CHARLES LYRICS Compiled by Robin Dunn & Chrissie Van Varik
BOBBY CHARLES LYRICS Compiled by Robin Dunn & Chrissie van Varik. Bobby Charles was born Robert Charles Guidry on 21st February 1938 in Abbeville, Louisiana. A native Cajun himself, he recalled that his life “changed for ever” when he re-tuned his parents’ radio set from a local Cajun station to one playing records by Fats Domino. Most successful as a songwriter, he is regarded as one of the founding fathers of swamp pop. His own vocal style was laidback and drawling. His biggest successes were songs other artists covered, such as ‘See You Later Alligator’ by Bill Haley & His Comets; ‘Walking To New Orleans’ by Fats Domino - with whom he recorded a duet of the same song in the 1990s - and ‘(I Don’t Know Why) But I Do’ by Clarence “Frogman” Henry. It allowed him to live off the song-writing royalties for the rest of his life! No albums were by him released in this period. Two other well-known compositions are ‘The Jealous Kind’, recorded by Joe Cocker, and ‘Tennessee Blues’ by Kris. Disenchanted with the music business, Bobby disappeared from the music scene in the mid-1960s but returned in 1972 with a self-titled album on the Bearsville label on which he was accompanied by Rick Danko and several other members of the Band and Dr John. Bobby later made a rare live appearance as a guest singer on stage at The Last Waltz, the 1976 farewell concert of the Band, although his contribution was cut from Martin Scorsese’s film of the event. Bobby Charles returned to the studio in later years, recording a European-only album called Clean Water in 1987.

SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO.101 By Johnson A RESOLUTION to honor the memory of legendary guitarist Reggie Young. WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly were saddened to learn of the passing of Reggie Young of Nashville, a humble gentleman whose talents as a guitarist were incomparable among his peers yet accessible to the average listener; and WHEREAS, during a brilliant career that spanned seven decades, Reggie Young served as the anchor of house bands at Memphis's Royal Studios/Hi Records and American Studios and was later one of Nashville's finest session players; and WHEREAS, greatly revered among his peers, Reggie Young was not a household name, but his signature work on guitar and sitar continues to be heard and appreciated worldwide; and WHEREAS, his talents earned him engagements with a stunning array of artists, from Bob Dylan to Gladys Knight, the Staple Singers to Paul Simon, Herbie Mann to Joe Cocker, and B.B. King to Sinead O'Connor; and WHEREAS, Mr. Young played on many monumentally popular recordings, including Dusty Springfield's "Son of a Preacher Man," the Box Tops' "Cry Like a Baby," Elvis Presley's "Suspicious Minds" and "In the Ghetto," and literally hundreds of other hits and classics; and WHEREAS, always a self-effacing professional, Reggie Young never sought to stand out among his fellow musicians in the studio; he played within the context of the song, adding special touches that magically made the song and the recording better, but he also excelled as a soloist when need be; and WHEREAS, he invented and played the iconic opening to Dobie Gray's "Drift Away" on the spot in the studio and recorded one of the greatest sitar solos of all-time on B.J.

  • STEVE YOUNG LL July 2021
STEVE YOUNG - LYRICS Steven Timothy Young, 12th July 1942 - 17th March 2016 Compiled by Robin Dunn assisted by Chrissie van Varik. Please note that this list should be regarded as a ‘work in progress’. We don’t claim definitive knowledge about Steve Young’s recorded and composing output and welcome corrections and/or new information. Many folks will have greater knowledge than we about the details on many of these tracks - musicians, dates of recordings, background etc. As anyone with any experience of these things knows, something new and unexpected is always turning up! If anyone epitomises the title of our website it has to be Steve Young. He covered the full gamut of folk, country, blues, and rock ‘n’ roll. Not so well known with the general music-buying public he was nevertheless a huge influence on contemporary and upcoming folk and country musicians many of whom went on to become famous in their own right. Perceived as somewhat of an independent country and folk outsider he was a pioneer of the country rock, Americana, and Alt. Country sounds and often seen as the original so called ‘outlaw’ a label later adopted and inculcated by Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson among others. However, Steve Young’s repertoire was much wider and varied. Steve Young was born on 12th July 1942 in Newnan, Georgia. He grew up in Gadsden, Alabama, and in Texas, as the family regularly moved around in search of work. By the time he completed high school he was playing and writing songs that incorporated influences of folk, blues, country and gospel that he absorbed whilst travelling throughout the South.

She has won two honorable mentions in the international John Lennon Songwriting contest, and has been awarded two Puffin Foundation grants for her work with and for children. The songs she writes are from a young child's perspective, and along with that comes the desire to move and interact. As you can tell by those who have written in support of the band, she is also an educator who has an amazing ability to engage a large group of children while maintaining order. The band is comprised of 5 other talented musicians: Danny Conkle, Joe Ellison, Kemp Jones, Melinda Kershner and Michael Wegner, who turn each song into a musical playground. They have produced 2 albums of music, and bring with them the ability to play in any style: jazz, bluegrass, rock, funk, reggae, blues . They also bring the sounds of over 13 instruments to young ears: drums, conga, percussion, keyboard, bass, acoustic and electric guitars, banjo, mandolin, harmonica, saxophone, flute and clarinet. To top it off, they add 3-part harmony. Last year, they produced an original play which featured their music, 70 local school children, and was performed for 3 sold-out school shows at the Oconee County Civic Center.
