The song was released as the back of the single Love, Love, Love. Although the song was released only as an unexplored A-side, it is considered the standard of the RCB, having been covered by many artists over the years. The lyric was written by Edward Howard, for and about the mental pain that Hathaway, who was diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic when the song was written, was experiencing at the time. Edward Howard said: What was going on in my head at the time was Donnie because Donnie was a very restless person. I was hoping that at some point he would be relieved of everything he was going through. I couldn't do anything but write something that might be reassuring to him. Years later, the song began to be interpreted as written about black rights, primarily because of Spike Lee with Aretha Franklin's 1992 version at the end of his biopic Malcolm X. However, as Howard said: Many black people took the song for some anthem. Ok. I didn't write it for that, though. It doesn't matter to me. I take it with a grain of salt. I'm glad it makes some sense. Donnie Hathaway himself particularly loved the song and, as Eulala Hathaway stated: He loved this song. Donnie literally sat in the studio and cried when he heard the playback of his last mix. It is very special when an artist can create something that destroys them. Although the song is not on the charts, the B-side of the single, Love, Love Love, peaked at #44 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #16 on the RBC charts, the song was featured in the seventh season finale of The Walking Dead, which aired on April 2, 2017. Donnie Hathaway's staff - vocals, electric piano Fender Rhodes, arrangements by Cornell Dupree - guitar by David Spinoza - guitar by Ray Lucas - percussion Willie Weeks - bass Marvin Stamm - trumpet covers Sergio Mendes on his 1975 debut for Elektra Records. Middle White and Ben E. King on the 1977 album Benny and Us. Bobby Womack covered the song on his 1985 album of the same name. Regina Belle on her 1989 album Stay With Me. James Ingram on his 1989 album It's Real. Aretha Franklin covered the song on the soundtrack to the 1992 film Malcolm X. Tom Brown on his 1999 compilation R 'N' Browne also with Diane Reeves did as vocals. Charlie Hunter covered the song as a solo instrument on his 2000 album Blue Note. Helen Baylor has a cover version of the song that was used in the season 2 finale of Martin's episode 2, Martin is in motion, and the song appears during the closing credits of previous seasons. J.J. tried the song on Legacy from his 4:44 album. The popular culture hathaway version was featured in an episode of AMC's The Walking Dead, the seventh season finale of The First Day of the rest of your life as sasha's character ingests cyanide pills. Hathaway's version was also featured on The Chi on Showtime, in the season finale of The Scorpion and the Frog (episode #10) as the final music. • EARTH, WIND & FIRE -‐ Bio XRIJF JUNE 20-‐28, 2014 During the 1970S
EARTH, WIND & FIRE - Bio During the 1970s, a new brand of pop music was born - one that was steeped in African and African- American styles - particularly jazz and R&B but appealed to a broader cross-section of the listening public. As founder and leader of the band Earth, Wind & Fire, Maurice White not only embraced but also helped bring about this evolution of pop, which bridged the gap that has often separated the musical tastes of black and white America. It certainly was successful, as EWF combined high-caliber musicianship, wide-ranging musical genre eclecticism, and '70s multicultural spiritualism. "I wanted to do something that hadn't been done before," Maurice explains. "Although we were basically jazz musicians, we played soul, funk, gospel, blues, jazz, rock and dance music...which somehow ended up becoming pop. We were coming out of a decade of experimentation, mind expansion and cosmic awareness. I wanted our music to convey messages of universal love and harmony without force- feeding listeners' spiritual content." Maurice was born December 19, 1941, in Memphis, TN. He was immersed in a rich musical culture that spanned the boundaries between jazz, gospel, R&B, blues and early rock. All of these styles played a role in the development of Maurice's musical identity. At age six, he began singing in his church's gospel choir but soon his interest turned to percussion. He began working gigs as a drummer while still in high school. His first professional performance was with Booker T. Jones, who eventually achieved stardom as Booker T and the MGs.

The brilliant ‘Rocks’ album was breaking all sales records and the band’s live shows were incendiary. English journalist Chris Welch flew to the States back then to meet 28-year-old frontman STEVEN TYLER at his lakeside home in New Hampshire and came away with this fascinating insight into a band at the height of its powers… HOWARD BUNKER LOOKED DOWN as we dipped below the cloud cover. at his instrument panel and spoke Below us spread a breathtaking softly into the radio. There was view. A mountain loomed directly no point in looking through the beneath us, dark and menacing in plexiglass canopy, for all around was the afternoon light, while stretching a milky grey world, the disorientating away to the horizon lay mile after confines of a cloud belt that clung mile of copper gold maple trees, like fog to the six-seater, twin- a vista broken by the waters of engined Cessna. Mr. Bunker – silver-haired, with a “That’s where we land!” shouted confident, affable manner – used to Bunker, twisting around in his seat, fly President Kennedy from Boston, and pointing towards a tiny private the city we had left in driving rain landing strip on a golf course amidst half an hour earlier. I suddenly felt the trees. The co-pilot adjusted like Ginger in the book Biggles Flies instruments, we circuited the area, North, heading for the Canadian then lined up for a final approach.
