The sheets also indicate out cues, disk changes, music content, local ID's, and jingle placement . Please refer to Part One of the OPUS Operations Manual for other operational r e lated details . • Season's Greetings and our best wishes for a Great 1975! crncentury2} PRODUCTIONS INC. 7263 Envoy Court I Dallas, Texas 75247 / 214-638-3222 @ 1974 OPUS PRQJ"'' -lONS,_ IJ-',. p. 2 This year's OPUS program is respectfully dedicated to the memory of John Gilbert, first host of the OPUS series, who lost his life this year in the crash of a station airplane at Houston, Texas. At the time of the accident he was doing what he loved most--broadcasting . Dick Starr Roy Nilson p. 3 FINAL CHECKOUT: 1. TECHNICAL Prior to broadcast we suggest a dry run of a few of the OPUS program segments to check out the technical end of reproduction. For optimum quality it is advisable to have your engineer check the condition of your playback stylus, tone arm weight and tracking, turntable speed, and playback levels, spot- checking throughout the actual OPUS disks. OPUS is supplied on stereo discs. If you are broadcasting monaurally, be sure to use stereo pickups which are strapped for compatible stereo/monaural reproduction. 2. TIMING Precise timing of OPUS 74 program segments is indica ted on the Music ·List/Time & Cue Sheets which follow. Based on an intended local insertion load of 13 minutes per hour (12 minutes commercial plus six 5-second local OPUS station jingles), the complete running time of OPUS 74 will be seven hours, fifty two minutes and sixteen seconds (7:52:16) . 3. PROGRAM CLOSING In the final program segment a 20-second instrumental bed is provided for local closing credits. Suggested copy will be found on page 12. You may wish to dry run this segment prior to broadcast, adapting closing copy to your local particulars. The copyright notice and "transcribed" credits are mandatory for broadcast. p. 4 Music List/Time & Cue Sheet DISK 1-A Cut 100. YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHING YET - B. T. Overdrive 99. • Young Americans to Emotional Rescue: Selected Meetings
YOUNG AMERICANS TO EMOTIONAL RESCUE: SELECTING MEETINGS BETWEEN DISCO AND ROCK, 1975-1980 Daniel Kavka A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF MUSIC August 2010 Committee: Jeremy Wallach, Advisor Katherine Meizel © 2010 Daniel Kavka All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Jeremy Wallach, Advisor Disco-rock, composed of disco-influenced recordings by rock artists, was a sub-genre of both disco and rock in the 1970s. Seminal recordings included: David Bowie’s Young Americans; The Rolling Stones’ “Hot Stuff,” “Miss You,” “Dance Pt.1,” and “Emotional Rescue”; KISS’s “Strutter ’78,” and “I Was Made For Lovin’ You”; Rod Stewart’s “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy“; and Elton John’s Thom Bell Sessions and Victim of Love. Though disco-rock was a great commercial success during the disco era, it has received limited acknowledgement in post-disco scholarship. This thesis addresses the lack of existing scholarship pertaining to disco-rock. It examines both disco and disco-rock as products of cultural shifts during the 1970s. Disco was linked to the emergence of underground dance clubs in New York City, while disco-rock resulted from the increased mainstream visibility of disco culture during the mid seventies, as well as rock musicians’ exposure to disco music. My thesis argues for the study of a genre (disco-rock) that has been dismissed as inauthentic and commercial, a trend common to popular music discourse, and one that is linked to previous debates regarding the social value of pop music.

WHO'S WHO AT ARISTA-CAREERS/INTERWORLD INTERVIEW WITH BILLY MESHEL Q: Alright Billy, tell me about the development of the publishing operation. :A: Well, in January 1977 the publishing company was set up. Q: The record company was established when? A: I think the record company was 3 years old...We started with no songs in the catalogue. Our first deal was with Gregg Diamond and "More, More, More" was the first song that we had that made money...it went to number one. That went on to become a real good relationship and gave us some good songs to exploit. Q: You started by looking for writers rather than acquiring catalogues? A: We never look for catalogues...the thing you do is find talented people...catalogues are inflated. Q: Do you feel that even back in '77 you were better off going after good writers than established catalogues? A: Well, good writer-artists. We couldn't sign straight writers because we didn't have the staff yet. Even now, almost 5 years later, we still don't have enough of a staff to take care of straight writers. We get involved mainly with writer-artists who we believe to be talented. Q: What else is important besides signing good writer-artists? A: The next thing when you are starting up a company is individual songs. So you listen to everything that comes in. Before we had anyone working for us I listened to all of the tapes myself. I found "Hard Times For Lovers", the song that Judy Collins ultimately did, plus a bunch of other individual songs that way.

One of the many misconception about country music is that its audience is strictly southern and rural; my northern urban working class family listened exclusively to country music. As a teenager I was was more interested in Motown than Nashville, but by the time I reached my early thirties I had became a serious country music fan.
