World’s Fair Thank you for supporting our kids in 2015!

Our Auction features an exciting variety of items, experiences, and services in a wide range of prices. Many items you would be purchasing anyway, so why not “get a deal”, have fun, and support our kids all at the same time?

This overview will help you navigate the closings, get the best deals, and have a ton of fun!

Why are we raising money?

The money generated from our auction will help the CK8 Parent Teacher Student Association continue their mission to fund outdoor education and enriched curriculums for all students attending Cascade K-8 Community School. Cascade K-8 is small school with BIG goals. OUR PTSA believes in the power of enrichment and the wide reaching effects of being able to provide programs that inspire and support the kids’ own interests.

We aspire to give each child an opportunity to shine as we work hard to provide funding for music, languages, science, technology, art, and engineering programs for students and teachers.

Now it’s up to you! As you bid, keep in mind that EVERY DOLLAR goes directly to CK8 student activities.

So jump in, raise those pens, and BID for the KIDS! Together we can make this an evening to remember!

THANK YOU for your generous support!

~ YOUR CK8 AUCTION COMMITTEE

Shorecrest Culinary Arts is a yearlong program that introduces students to the food industry with hands-on training and experience. The students work in a professional kitchen, mirroring a restaurant environment. Throughout the year, students learn culinary skills and prepare and serve plated dinners, box lunches, and run catering events from our kitchen. Events run from small breakfasts, to buffets for 200. ALL proceeds from the dinners and catering events go back into the program and are used for food, field trips, equipment, and uniforms. Thank you for supporting our students!

World’s Fair AUCTION OVERVIEW Guidelines on how this all works!

Bidding Instructions

Bid numbers are issued at the check-in table. Couples share the same bid number. Separate bid numbers are available upon request.

THE SILENT AUCTION: The Silent Auction is divided into four different color coded sections:

1. Green (1000’s) bidding closes at 6:15pm 2. Blue (2000’s) bidding closes at 6:35pm 3. Purple (3000’s) bidding closes at 6:50pm 4. Silver (4000’s) bidding closes at 7:30pm

The catalog is also arranged in these sections. At the auction, the catalog number will match up with each item and its bid sheet. To bid: write your bidder number on the first available line on the bid sheet. Bids will go up incrementally by line. You may skip ahead to bid the amount you wish to pay.

It is suggested that you keep an eye on the items that you really want!

BUY IT NOW! The Guaranteed Purchase Option

At the bottom of each bid sheet is a price that will guarantee that you will win the item. You may skip to the Guaranteed Purchase Line by filling in your Bid Number and drawing a line down the length of the sheet. This closes the item to further bidding.

11 | Page

World’s Fair EXPRESS PAY

Express Pay is a great new tool that minimizes check-out lines at the end of the evening. When you arrive at the Auction – please proceed to the Bank to check-in.

The check-in process now includes registering your Visa or MasterCard and providing the Bank with your mailing address at the same time as you get your Bidder Number. If you would prefer to pay by check, you may also leave the Bank with a signed blank check made out to Cascade K8 PTSA. Registering your payment method at check-in means that at the end of the night, you are able to skip checking out at the Bank and proceed straight to Item Pick-up, located at the Silent Auction.

If you would like to review your purchases at the end of the evening, you may visit the bank for a preliminary invoice. Final invoices will be mailed to all attendees within two weeks.

About your purchases: - Unless otherwise stated, all gift certificates and services expire on April 4th, 2016 - All items are offered “As-Is”

Although we have attempted to describe auction items accurately, CK8 Auction Committee neither warrants nor represents and in no way shall be held responsible for: the correctness of description, genuineness, authorship, or condition of the property. No statement made in the catalog or elsewhere shall be deemed such a warranty or assumption of liabilities. Values listed are estimates only and are not warranted for fair-market value.

Supporting the CK8 Auction Team again this year!

World’s Fair 12 Upholstery Services $400

How many of you saw that Doctor Who themed fabric on Spoonflower and thought “Man, I would love to have a couch in that.” Because we cannot tell you how many times we have dreamed of that. Well, maybe not the couch, but definitely the chair. Especially after a certain dog chewed his way through the arm rest. Okay, maybe TARDIS toile isn’t for you but certainly there is something out there that can upholster your fancy and with this item, you don’t even have to do the work! This package is for custom upholstery on a moderate sized loveseat or two chairs. Fabric is not included but that just means you can buy whichever fabric you want. Have you seen that Star Trek one? We’re thinking footstool.

Labor for custom upholstery of furniture (re-upholstery) does not include cost of materials (fabric, foam, Dacron etc.) labor only. Example of furniture: one loveseat (2 cushion couch), 1 chair.

Thank you: Salem Upholstery

World’s Fair RAISE YOUR PADDLE

Take a moment & raise your paddle to support Outdoor Camps

K-8 OUTDOOR CAMPS ARE A CORNERSTONE OF BUILDING OUR COMMUNITY! Nature studies, crafts, team building, problem solving and laughter mark our days spent in natural settings with all of our families and staff. It is only a fraction of the year, but a huge part of the “Cascade K-8 Community School Experience”. Our School is one of the only schools left that puts outdoor education as a priority. These programs are not funded by the Public School system and we depend on our supporters to keep this important tradition alive! For our 8th graders the trip provides a whole different level of experience. 8th grade camp gives our students a rite of passage between CK8 and High School - an experience that will allow them to grow as people and cement the lessons of community that we teach them here.

Your support is key in giving our 8th graders a powerful send-off that they will remember through the next phase of their lives.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT OF CK8 CAMPS!

World’s Fair 31 Teacher Shereen’s Private Priceless Swimming Lessons

It is a proven fact that kids like to swim. Unfortunately, unless they know how to swim bad things can happen. And teaching a kid to swim is a task not to be taken lightly. First you have to fish out your old bathing suit which has been stuffed into the back corner of your underwear drawer for the past twelve years. And when you try it on and see there is no way you can wear it in public without being arrested, your heart sinks with the realization that you must, for the good of your children, go bathing suit shopping. Scientific research has shown that four out of five people would rather have an un-anesthetized root canal than go bathing suit shopping. But you are a good parent so you buy an overpriced suit and stuff yourself into it and haul your precious little snowflake down to the public pool where they proceed to kick approximately twelve hundred gallons of super-chlorinated water into your eyes while they learn the back float. And as you stand there, trying not to think about the urine content of the water that is currently turning your appendages into raisins, you see Teacher Shereen. She is standing twelve feet away in her jaunty swim costume, laughing and dodging a tidal wave of back-float kicks like a pro. Because that’s what she does. She teaches. And she can teach your kid to swim like a dolphin*.

One Week (4 – half hour/day) swim lessons with Teacher Shereen at the Northridge Swim Club during club assigned lesson times (generally Tues-Fri from 8-10am, subject to change by the Northridge Board).

Session week to be mutually agreeable. Expires 8/31/15

*Echolocation lessons not included.

Thank you: Teacher Shereen
