Hit- Gil Cisneros broke promises he made to voters to win election nearly two years ago. He promised not to vote for Nancy Pelosi as Speaker, but then voted for her with one of his very first votes in Congress. He promised not to take money from PACs, but then took hundreds of thousands of dollars in PAC and special interest money. He promised to be an independent leader, but then voted with Nancy Pelosi 100% of the time. Backup: Cisneros said that he would not vote for Pelosi as Speaker: Editor’s Note: Gil Cisneros was elected in November of 2018. • Cisneros has said the he would not vote for Pelosi as Speaker. “Gil Cisneros (CA- 39) statement to POLITICO, when asked if he’d vote for Pelosi as speaker: ‘No. While I respect Representative Pelosi’s years of advocacy on behalf of California and the Democratic party, new leadership is needed.’” (“Democratic candidates vow to dump Pelosi,” Politico, 6/20/18) Cisneros signed onto a letter in opposition of her becoming Speaker Of The House: • Gil Cisneros signed onto a letter in opposition of her becoming Speaker Of The House. (Lindsey McPherson, “California Rep. -elect Gil Cisneros Signs Onto Anti-Pelosi Letter,” Roll Call, 11/26/18) • Gil Cisneros signed onto the letter. “California Rep.-elect Gil Cisneros has signed onto a letter of Democrats who say they want new leadership and who will not vote for Nancy Pelosi for speaker.” (Lindsey McPherson, “California Rep. -elect Gil Cisneros Signs Onto Anti-Pelosi Letter,” Roll Call, 11/26/18) • Gil Cisneros said he would “follow through on my commitment to support new leadership.” “In a statement noting he has ”tremendous respect” for Pelosi and her achievements for the Democratic Party, Cisneros said the voters in his 39th District made it clear they want to see change in Washington. “I intend to follow through on my commitment to support new leadership,” he said. “Our Democratic caucus is comprised of many dedicated individuals who are more than capable of leading our Party and the House of Representatives into the future.”” (Lindsey McPherson, “California Rep. -elect Gil Cisneros Signs Onto Anti-Pelosi Letter,” Roll Call, 11/26/18) • Gil Cisneros became the 16th person to sign the anti-Pelosi letter. “Cisneros signing on brings the anti-Pelosi letter’s signatories back up to 16 after New York Rep. Brian Higgins dropped his opposition just two days after the letter was released with his signature included.” (Lindsey McPherson, “California Rep. -elect Gil Cisneros Signs Onto Anti-Pelosi Letter,” Roll Call, 11/26/18) • Gil Cisneros expressed the same sentiment during his 2018 campaign. “Cisneros had expressed those same sentiments during his campaign, but his signing onto the letter shows that his opposition to Pelosi was not a campaign promise he intends to break.” (Lindsey McPherson, “California Rep. -elect Gil Cisneros Signs Onto Anti-Pelosi Letter,” Roll Call, 11/26/18) Gil Cisneros voted for Nancy Pelosi on January 3, 2019: • On January 3, 2019, Gil Cisneros voted Pelosi for Speaker. I haven’t taken PAC money.” (Gil Cisneros At A CSUF Candidate Forum, 10/18/18, America Rising YouTube Page, 04/09/19) • Gil Cisneros said he refused ‘to take PAC or special interest money” and said money “is corrosive to our democracy and real campaign reform is needed now.” (Gil Cisneros Twitter Feed, 01/10/18) • Gil Cisneros’s spokesperson said “Gil Cisneros has made a pledge to not accept any contributions from PACs, period. Each and every time the Cisneros for Congress campaign has received a direct contribution from a PAC, it has returned the funds to the PAC immediately.” “Gil Cisneros has made a pledge to not accept any contributions from PACs, period.
