We pushed on with our outreach activities, to ensure that more Singaporeans could benefit from information about and access to the programmes and services under the Adapt and Grow initiative, through targeted events such as sectoral and thematic focused career fairs to help Mr Lim Ming Yan, connect them to relevant opportunities. Mr Tan Choon Shian, Chairman Chief Executive We extended our reach into the heartlands and increased our engagement efforts through Careers Connect On-the-Go (CCOTG) Pop-Ups, offering career advisory and job search tips to jobseekers in a light and nimble format. Our Adapt and Grow Town roadshows were also enhanced to provide a more engaging and interactive experience to an increased number of visitors. Leveraging technology, MyCareersFuture introduced machine learning to enhance the overall user experience and provided a smarter and easier job match relevant for jobseekers. To help ensure greater career mobility, our Professional Conversion Programmes enabled more PMETs to switch sectors or take on new job roles. More importantly, it helped companies retain more workers, by providing redeployment support. The Career Trial programme was also expanded to include part-time roles to provide more job opportunities for Singaporeans, such as those with family commitments. -

Career Transitions for Roles Highly Impacted by Technology 92 ii Preface The Institute for Human Resource Professionals (IHRP) and Ministry of Manpower (MOM) jointly commissioned Willis Towers Watson in 2019 to study the impact of technology on the Human Resource (HR) sector in Singapore, specifically on changes to jobs and skills in the sector. The study focused on a three to five year timeframe to analyse the impact in detail and identify actions to help shape the future of the HR sector in Singapore. The study aimed to answer three key questions – what technologies will impact HR in the future, how jobs will change i.e. jobs and tasks that will be displaced, those that will be augmented, and new jobs and tasks that will emerge, and which skills will be critical to perform these roles, particularly the technology-related skills that HR professionals will require to perform jobs of the future. -

13 January 2006 FOUR NEW MEMBERS APPOINTED TO JTC BOARD 1. The Minister for Trade and Industry has appointed four new members to the JTC Corporation (JTC) Board for a period of two years with effect from 1 January 2006. They are: • Mr Kenneth Bradley, Managing Director, Pfizer Asia Pacific Pte Ltd; • Mr Goh Hup Jin, Director, Wuthelam Holdings Pte Ltd; • Mr Gary Kee, Director, Strategy & Corporate Development, Asia Pacific Japan, Hewlett Packard Asia Pacific Pte Ltd; and • Mr Masahiro Yamasaki, Managing Director, Sumitomo Chemical Singapore Pte Ltd. 2. Industrial Infrastructure: Growing in Tandem with the Economy – Industrialisation has driven the engine of Singapore’s remarkable economic transformation since it gained internal self-government. This economic growth has developed in tandem with the industrial infrastructure landscape – its foundations were laid first in standard factories, and as the economy moved up the value chain towards a knowledge- driven phase, with ever more specialised industrial parks and innovative solutions. Singapore has had to deal with the constant challenge of staying relevant and competitive, while addressing the inherent constraints of land and labour. It is a story of visionary leadership, strong institutions, planning over a long-term horizon but adjusting flexibly in the short term, using crises as opportunities for learning and change, working with markets, and constant innovation. This study presents the progression of Singapore’s economic policies over the various phases of growth, and the corresponding developments in the industrial infrastructure. It also delves into how this integrated approach has occurred through the dynamics of the institutional structures and Singapore’s strategic industry choices over the years. The Singapore Urban Systems Studies Booklet Series draws on original Urban Systems Studies research by the Centre for Liveable Cities, Singapore (CLC) into Singapore’s development over the last half-century. The series is organised around domains such as water, transport, housing, planning, industry and the environment. SCIC Marks Establishment As an Independent Entity
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Singapore Chemical Industry Council marks establishment as independent entity Singapore, 15 November 2007 ~ The Singapore Chemical Industry Council (SCIC), Singapore’s only industry organisation representing companies in the chemical sector, today announced its establishment as an autonomous entity. Dr A Chockalingam, Chairman of the board of the SCIC, said, “I am delighted to witness and lead the maturing of SCIC into an independent organisation. The chemical industry is an important pillar of Singapore’s economy and SCIC will now focus on advancing the progress of the sector.” Since its formation in 1979 as an industry group under the Singapore Manufacturers’ Federation (SMa), the chemical industry has grown significantly to its 2006 contribution of 33% of Singapore’s manufacturing output. To align itself with the development of the industry, SCIC underwent a restructuring in October 2004 to become an autonomous entity within the SMa. Having operated under this environment over the past three years and having reviewed the practices of chemical industry associations globally, SCIC decided to take a bold step forward by becoming an independent legal entity and officially registered itself on 28 June 2007. The SCIC currently has 128 member companies representing the entire value chain of the industry. SCIC is today recognised and supported by government agencies such as the Ministry of Manpower, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), IE Singapore, JTC Corporation, National Environment Agency, Singapore Civil Defence Force, Singapore Customs and SPRING Singapore. Ms Aw Kah Peng, Assistant Managing Director of the EDB, said, "Congratulations to SCIC on this significant milestone! Published: 16 November 2017 Overview In the early 2000s, start-ups in Singapore faced a dearth of affordable spaces where they could work, exchange ideas and network. To address this gap, a government-led project began in 2011 to repurpose an old industrial block to give start-ups the space and the supportive ecosystem they needed for their budding ideas to take off. Aptly named LaunchPad, the start-up cluster was officially launched in 2015—and demand has been overwhelming. This case study was adapted from Urban Solutions of the Centre for Liveable Cities in Singapore. Challenges With no natural resources to rely on, Singapore has always stressed the importance of building up its human capital. While its education policy proved highly successful in the academic sense, there was worry among policymakers and business leaders that a rigid, structured education had led to the dearth of entrepreneurs in Singapore. In 2003, the Economic Review Committee recommended remaking Singapore into a creative and entrepreneurial nation. This led to the government aggressively promoting entrepreneurship through a host of pro-enterprise initiatives—from reducing regulatory red tape to awarding grants. Still, start-ups faced challenges, notably high rental costs. -

Embargoed till after 17 November 2017, 1.00 pm More than 5,200 enterprises have tapped on Lean Enterprise Development Scheme to Transform and Grow Additional resources for technology solutions to push for quicker and more pervasive industry-level transformation Singapore, 17 November 2017 – Since its launch in October 2015, the LED Scheme has helped over 5,200 enterprises from all sectors harness technology and lean manpower solutions to transform their business operations and processes and improve productivity. 2. The LED initiatives range from optimisation of technology and automation, to adoption of progressive human resource practices and more. These efforts can take place at either the individual-enterprise or enterprise-cluster levels, providing companies with readily-available, customised solutions and supporting them in capability development so that workers can also benefit from the resulting higher-value jobs. (refer to Annex A for the LED Scheme factsheet ) Driving the next level of business growth through RTG solutions 3. Nearly 1,000 companies supported by the LED Scheme this year have adopted over 40 government pre-approved ready-to-go (RTG) solutions that are designed for various industries and business functions. These RTG solutions are featured on Tech Depot, a centralised platform launched in April 2017 under the SME Portal. (refer to Annex B for details on Tech Depot, and Annex C for examples of companies who have tapped on RTG solutions ) Page 1 of 20 Cluster projects for broader impact 4. Cluster projects offer benefits through economies of scale, helping companies access technology and solutions without having to expressly invest in hardware and resources.
