Acme Neon Signs (London) Ltd. was established in 1945. The company is owned by David J . Mcleod a London native who has been involved in the sign business for some twenty years. The company's manufacturing facilities are presently in Exeter, however the company has recently purchased a new manufactur ing facility on White Oaks Road in London and will be moving to the new premises in the near future. Our company manufactures pole, swing, fascia and neon signs for erection from Windsor on the west to on the east in the same centres as the Majors play their Intercounty games. We at Acme are proud to be associated with the Majors for the 1981 season and wish them every success in their endeavours to bring The City of London an Intercounty Major Championship.

ROY McKAY Mgr. At the helm once again, Roy hopes to improve the Majors attack in all categories. With one of the best W-L records to his credit as Mgr., Roy cites strong pitching as the key to suc cess in past years. Having assembled one of the best hitting lineups in years, combined with some of the best defensive players around . .. give the '81 squad a solid foun dation from which to work. Roy's ability to keep the game simple allows ·players to enjoy the game as it was meant to be played. 4 I IINIHIN 0 UIH .IV ANO OICVCLE SPECIALISTS'' ' ~

I enjoy Londo n Major games, 5 Chris Speier, M ontreal Expos Shortstop, played against London in the senior Inter County, and attended clinics operated by Reno Bertoia and myself for Tigers a few years ago, as did many of the present London team, including owner . Some thoughts : " Profanity never made a man out of a boy or gained respect for anyone" Body care-conditioning. Guard against the use of Tobacco, Alcohol and Narcotics, it is the only body you w ill 'ever have. Eat good food, get plenty of rest. LEGS : Loosen gradually into wind sprints. ARMS: Throw easy close, gradually move back. Throwing hand follows glove target, feet to receive on throwing side (both hands) grip ball on top across seams, elbow up, step and throw with a flick motion•at target. FIE LDING : Spread feet, weight forward, hands low , fingers and rump down, watch ball into glove, a fe w inches off left instep in front of body. Practice- short steps 1-2 pick it up short steps 1-2 throw. Fly balls catch off throwing shoulder, both hands, fingers up. DON'T REACH FOR BALL UNTIL IT IS THERE . "BEST OF LUCK MAJORS " 6 BARRY BOUGHNER - Anywhere 5'10" 190 lbs. Over the years, Barry has been one of the most consistent and versatile players in the league. A fiery competitor who gives 100% at all times. In 1980 " Boug" lead the Majors with a .382 batting average. A good fielder who can pitch, catch, play the infield or outfield. Boug has been a first allstar at 3rd base, 2nd base and last year as D.H. and vows to be a first allstar in the outfield. At allstar time, wait and see, Boug will be on it.

DAVE BYERS S.S. 6'3" 200 lbs. Pro Experience: St. Louis Cardinal Organization After a 3 year absence from London, Dave is back I where his Junior/ Senior career began. A n ex tremely strong throwing arm and reliable glove 1 make him a solid man in the shortstop position. An explosive hitter, Dave also holds the I. C. record for season high batting average (.457 in 1977).

~RDEN EDDIE CF/ 18 5' 11 " 185 lbs. Arden's love affair with baseball is matched by very few. As owner of the Major's, he is kept very busy indeed but when he is on the field . .. Arden is all :>aseball. One of the smartest hitters in the league not to mention his dependable glove in the field). l),rden hopes to make 1981 the Year of the Majors.

WAYNE FENLON Cat. 5'7" 195 lb??? At one of the most demanding positions in . baseball, Wayne has proved himself very durable 1 indeed. Consistently one.of the toughest hitters in the league, he did not strike out once 1n 1980. Mgr. McKay puts faith in Wayne's knowledge of _ and hitters throughout the league. Above all his attitudes though, is a great desire to win and have fun. .. 7

DAVE GODWIN Pit. 5'8" 165 lbs. Dave also played in Arva last year posting a 6-2 record. He played with the London Servicemaster Junior team last year a·s well winning 5 more games. Dave knows throwing strikes is the key to winning and we feel he can win some games for the Majors this season.

..

KANE GODWIN Cat. 6' 185 lbs. . Kane still has 2 years junior eligibility remaining but is among the few junior players that is ready to play senior baseball. The managers around the league will check his number twice after watching his smooth swing at the plate. Kane hit .400 while playing senior with Arva last season in the Western Counties League. That was 2nd best in the league.

DAVE GREENLY C/ OF 6'1'' 200 lbs. Always a solid performer, Dave is in his first year ·as a senior. A catcher by trade, Dave could see action in the outfield or in the DH slot.

LARRY HAGGITT 18 6'0" 195 lbs. Pro Experience: Detroit Tiger Organization A most welcome addition to the Major's hitting at tack, Larry is no stranger to . Debuting with the Majors in 1974 he has been noted as one of the leagues premier " long-ball" threats. larry won the league batting title with the Majors in 1975 with a .412 average. A sure glove hand at first base, along with good baseball sense . .. make " Haggar" most valuable indeed. 8

~s vI vII VII I vv 16 CKSLD~D INTER-COUNTY MAJOR BASEBALL Treasured Past - Valued Future

This is the 62nd year of Inter-County Major Baseball . . . and there have been many changes throughout that time. When it began in 1919, the league consisted of 4 teams, Stratford, Kitchener, Galt and Guelph. Though it was rough at the beginning, the league survived, and even admitted 4 more teams in the early years, London; Preston, Brantford and St.Thomas. The best days for the league were 1946-50, when the Senior Inter-County league was professional in everything but name. Operators of teams poured in money to get better teams, and several former major leaguers came to the league for a quick dollar and recognition. Night baseball swelled the already large crowds and pros perity flourished. It didn't last. In 1957, Londor.1 and Brantford joined the Great Lakes-Niagara District League, and the Inter-County Senior Baseball league dissolved. London, Brantford and Hamilton were back in a year later . . . but the 1962 and '63 seasons saw only 5 teams enter the league. The financial losses brought on by the bidding wars of the '50's bankrupted the league. The rebuilding program was then started ... and now, the league is back . .. and some say, better than ever. With improved facilities at Labbat Park, and the return of Roy MacKay as manager of the Majors, it's hoped that London is just a yardstick to the bright future of the entire league.

Ah , baseball, the game of summer. The crack of th e bat, the play at the plate, the roar of the crowd, the smell of the popcorn and hot dogs. What a great way to spend a few hours, whether playing or watching. And while baseball is fun and exciting, it is also meaningful. More than any other sport, baseball has reflected the social realities of the day. More than any other sport, baseball has dared to mirror the contemporary conscience. And more than any other sport, baseball has inspired its people to think, speak, and write to the profound depths of their very existence. The following quotes are offered as irrefutable proof of baseball's status in the history of the human race : : " It's not sex that wrecks ball players. It's staying out all night * looking for it." * Danny Ozark: " Half this game is 90-percent mental." : " If people don't want to come out to the park, nobody's going to stop them." : " When I'm through managing, I'm going to open a kindergarten." * Dizzy Dean, after being hit on the head in the 1934 : " The doctors * X-rayed my head and found nothing." Ken Brett : " Things were so bad in Chicago last year that by the fifth inning we were selling hot dogs to go." Tito Fuentes: "They shouldn't throw any brush back pitches at me. I'm the father of five or six kids." Umpire Cal Hubbard: " If I had known I was going to grow this old, I would have * taken better care of myself." Yogi Berra : " Warren Spahn and I may not have been the oldest battery when we * played for the Mets, but we were certainly the ugliest." ; talking about his first grand slam homerun: " As I remember it,_ the bases were loaded." * Bill Lee, after decided to play one more season : "I'm mad at Hank. I * threw him his last homerun pitch and I thought I'd be remembered forever. Now I'll have to throw him another." Umpire Tom Gorman: "Every time I got those bang-bang plays at first, I always called them out. It made the game· shorter." Grover Alexander, on why he pitched so fast : "What do you want me * to do, let those guys stand up there and think on my time?" * Billy Martin, on Bowie Kuhn's decision to void the Yankee purchase of Vida Blue: "If Kuhn can nullity that, he's gotta talk Peterson into giving Kekich his wife back." Tim McCarver, on catching Steve Carleton: "When Steve and I die, we are going to be buried 60 feet, six inches apart." Baseball announcer : "Two-thirds of the earth is covered by water. * The other third is covered by Garry Maddox." * Tug McGraw, when asked if he preferred grass or artificial turf: "I don't know, I've never smoked artificial turf." Yogi Berra, when passed his record for homeruns by a catcher: "Ya, but he hit his on artificial turf." * Joe Dimaggio, talking about hie marriage to Marilyn Monroe: "It' a got to be * better than rooming with ."
