LESLEY UNIVERSITY BRATTLE CAMPUS Directions.Pdf LESLEY UNIVERSITY BRATTLE CAMPUS Directions/Parking • Check-in will take place in Washburn Commons (10 Phillips Place, Cambridge) on Lesley University's Brattle Campus (which is shared with the Episcopal Divinity School), by Harvard Square. Because parking in Cambridge is often unpredictable, and because Lesley does not have a public parking lot on Brattle Campus, we highly recommend utilizing public transportation to Harvard Square. Please visit http://www.mbta.com for more information about Bus Schedules and the Red Line, and type in "10 Phillips Place, Cambridge MA" as the destination address if you are using the "Trip Planner". Alewife Station and Quincy Station have commuter parking lots from which you could take the Red line to the Harvard Square station and follow the directions below. The Commuter Rail also runs to the red line from both the north and south. • From the Harvard Square Station "Main Exit", walk north on Massachusetts Avenue and take a left on Garden Street when you reach the Cambridge Common. Take a left onto Mason Street and then a right onto Phillips Place. Washburn Hall is the building with lots of windows behind the short brick wall that runs along Phillips Place. You will be facing the back of the building, so please walk around to the front. • From the Harvard Square Station "Brattle Street exit", take a right on Brattle Street and a right onto Mason Street. Take a left onto Phillips Place and Washburn Hall is the building with lots of windows behind the short brick wall that runs along Phillips Place. You will be facing the back of the building, so please walk around to the front. • If you do not choose to park at a commuter lot, please allow extra time for parking. There are some 2-hour metered spots along Massachusetts Avenue, Garden Street and Brattle Street, and Cambridge Resident Only parking on the side streets in the area. Harvard Square has a number of parking garages as well, which can be found here: http://www.harvardsquare.com/maps.aspx. MFA in Photography / GRADUATE EXHIBITION 2016 Lesley University College of Art and Design From the Director A sincere welcome to this modest thesis document representing the 2016 MFA in Photography 2016 graduating class of our full-residency MFA in Photography program at Lesley University’s College of Art and Design. Beginning with our program’s developmental planning in 2009, we recognized that the medium of photography had ceased KATIE DOYLE being a single identifiable medium, technology or process and that it was, like our program to be, a flexible thing to be nurtured and designed as a collaborative work in progress. We were very conscious of the fact that collectively we had an CRYSTAL FOSS extraordinary opportunity to embrace the medium’s transformation—how it is taught, integrated, practiced, and what it would ultimately represent in the universe of the arts, education, and culture. SAMUEL WEST HISER Throughout its evolution, photography has been a slowly moving glacier of adaptation and obsolescence followed closely by familial transformations KWANGTAE KIM influenced by the heat of science, technology, critical analysis, and cultural practice. I think of these influences and processes as I do the boulders in the woods near my studio in New Hampshire… evidential scat from a glacier’s melting. Each TRACI MARIE LEE overlapping layer of transformation has ushered in an ever-greater democratization of photographic image making, adoption, and adaptation and each of these cycles have been identified by the family name, photography, regardless of how odd the MAURA O’DONNELL new offspring appeared. What each new incarnation had in common was a single salient identification… that of making marks with light.
