Welcome to the BMC Travel Guide 2021/22 This guide is for all students, staff and visitors! This guide has been created to provide the very best information for all visitors to Brooksby Melton College, whether this is via public transport, car, bicycle or on foot. As part of a vision which holds sustainability and the environment in mind, here at BMC we are always keen to increase travel choice to our staff, students and visitors. This guide provides information on the transport services available across Melton Mowbray and the Leicestershire area to help students and staff to plan their travel routes to college. BMC is situated on two campuses and is well served by a range of buses and trains which makes for simple and easy access. BMC aims to ensure learning opportunities are available and accessible to all of our students wherever you live. This guide will also help staff members to choose their mode of transport; we hope you find this guide useful, informative and helpful when planning your journey to BMC. For further information visit www.choosehowyoumove.co.uk Walking to BMC Walking is a great way to stay healthy, help the environment and save money! Walking to BMC can help you keep fit and healthy. Both campuses benefit from good pedestrian links within the surrounding areas, which allows people to find their way to campus easily and safely. Walking 1 mile in 20 minutes uses as much energy as: Running a mile in 10 minutes Cycling for 16 minutes Aerobics for 16 minutes Weight training for 17 minutes Further information is available from: www.choosehowyoumove.co.uk/walking Cycling to BMC Cycling is fun and good for you, so get on your bike! Cycle facilities are provided at both campus; including cycle parking, lockers and changing facilities. Cycling is one of the most environmentally friendly and sustainable modes of travel as well as being fun and good for you. Cycling is a great way to exercise, it has a low impact on your joints and each two-mile trip can burn over 100 calories. Tips for safe cycling Be bright – make sure drivers can see you. Wear brightly coloured clothing and use lights when cycling at night.     Leicester and Leicestershire City Deal Page | 1 Executive Summary Leicester and Leicestershire is a diverse and dynamic local economy and its success is integral to driving economic growth in the United Kingdom. The area is home to just under 1 million residents and over 32,000 businesses, many in the manufacturing and logistics sectors. Leicester and Leicestershire also benefits from its location at the heart of the UK road network and close proximity to both the second largest freight handling airport in the UK and London. The area provides employment for 435,000 people and generates an estimated gross value added of £19.4 billion. Despite these strengths Leicester and Leicestershire faces a series of challenges: more than 25,000 jobs were lost between 2008 and 2011 (nearly twice the national average); youth unemployment is relatively high within the city of Leicester and parts of the county; and whilst 70% of small and medium enterprises have plans for growth many find accessing the right type of business support is complex. Some local businesses also note difficulties in filling vacancies. As part of the area’s wider Growth Strategy the City Deal seeks to tackle these key barriers. Over its lifetime the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership expects that the City Deal will deliver: A new employment scheme targeted at 16-24 year olds that will reduce youth unemployment by 50% by 2018, deliver 3,000 new apprenticeships and 1,000 traineeships and work placements. An innovative new employment and training scheme for young offenders. Improved co-ordination of business support services and a range of innovative business support programmes.

The first time admissions outcomes for this year have been extremely pleasing. The Local Authority was able to secure preferred schools for over 97% of Leicestershire parents and carers, with 91% getting their first choice of school. Added to this the highest ever percentage of parents and carers, 96.1%, applied online. With this in mind I would like to invite parents and carers of children seeking first time admissions from September 2017 to start considering which school they would like their child to attend. It is important to understand that you must apply and that there is a closing date. The application process for primary school - first time admissions begins from1st June 2016 and closes 15th January 2017, and the recommended way to apply is through Leicestershire’s online application system.     Leicester City Council Education and Children’s Services Transport policy statement for learners aged 16-18 in further education and continuing learners aged 19 and over. Summary of Policy Statement and Main Objectives This document sets out the support available to young people of Leicester entering or continuing with full-time Post 16 Education to encourage participation and prevent transport being a barrier to young learners. It provides the most up to date details of charges and means testing procedures. Leicester City Council – provision for mainstream learners A bus pass costing £425 is available for Leicester resident pupils over statutory school age if they live more than 3 miles but less than 20 miles from the school/college attended, and if the student is aged 16, 17 or 18 at the start of the college year. The pass allows travel on both First and Arriva buses to get to school/college. There are alternatives to the Leicester City Council Bus Pass. If you only need to use a bus from one operator, you could get better value in terms of price and flexibility by purchasing a season ticket directly from a commercial bus operator. Before you apply for a Leicester City Council bus pass we strongly urge you to consider all of the commercially available alternatives. Most commercially available season tickets allow you to travel at any time and on any day including weekends.

German and were joined by the Woodville Company under Mr Freckleton. The drill consisted of exercises in preparation for the inspection by Lord Rankesborough, which is to take place next Sunday. Lord Rankesborough will be remembered by old volunteers as Major-General Brocklehurst, who inspected the Ashby Company about ten years ago at Ashby. Page 3 WOUNDED SOLDIER’S OUTING A JOLLY PARTY About 200 wounded and convalescent soldiers from the Base Hospital at North Evington, Lutterworth, Charnwood and Melton hospitals had a glorious time on Saturday. They were entertained by the employees of Messrs. Walker, Kempson and Stevens (Sileby Branch) and Mr J. W. Molt, (of Sileby). As usual, the motor car arrangements were under the able supervision of Mr C. Geoffrey Barradale, on behalf of the Leicestershire Automobile Club. An informal procession, which started from the Victoria Park Gates, was made through the town. As on previous occasions, the Tommies were heartily cheered and showers of cigarettes, fruit, chocolates, etc., went into the cars. At Sileby, large crowds of people greeted the soldiers. The village was handsomely decorated with banners, flags and festoons. In a field adjoining the Conservative Club, a large marquee and platform had been erected. Among those present were Col. Yate, M.P., Mr J. H. Bott (manager for Messrs. Walker, Kempson and Stevens at Sileby), Mr J. W. Moir, Mr Wye (secretary of Messrs.
