The Fall of 25:1-14 October 11 2020

Josiah dies in battle, because he doesn’t seek the Lord, then his son Jehoahaz reigns for three months (evil and wicked). The king of (Necho) got rid of him and makes his brother, king. He reigned eleven years before King Nebuchadnezzar came up against him and the people of /Jerusalem and took him to . Jehoiachin then reigned for three months and ten days (evil) and then King Neb took him to Babylon. Then took reign for eleven years and then rebelled against King Neb and turned against the Lord. (:1-21)

In regards to Babylon- Genesis 11- Babel and Babylon- “rebel against God”. This is exactly what people of had been doing, rebelling!

Babylon- was against the Lord then and now (modern day Iraq, Iran and Syria). God would use them then and even now.

The progression of Israel’s captivity to Babylon:

From the thirteenth year of the son of Amon, king of Judah, even to this day, this is the twenty-third year in which the word of the LORD has come to me; and I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking, but you have not listened. Jeremiah 25:3

The Lord used Babylon to get the people’s attention to seek to turn them back to God.

Nevertheless, the LORD did not turn from the fierceness of His great wrath, with which His anger was aroused against Judah, because of all the provocations with which Manasseh had provoked Him. 27 And the LORD said, “I will also remove Judah from My sight, as I have removed Israel, and will cast off this city Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said, ‘My name shall be there.’” 2 Kings 23:26-27

And the LORD sent against him raiding bands of Chaldeans, bands of Syrians, bands of Moabites, and bands of the people of ; He sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the LORD which He had spoken by His servants the . 2 Kings 24:2

2 Kings 24:12-16 marked the beginning of the deportation of the Jews (disobedience).

Jeremiah 52:1-30- destruction and fall of Jerusalem (587 B.C.).

Review: The Israelites did thing their own way, the kings did as well, they didn’t heed the warnings, they didn’t turn to God, God used Babylon to get their attention and bring them back to Himself.

We too can be like the Israelites if not careful. God wants our undivided attention.

Ways we disobey/walk away from God:

Flat out refusal of the words of the Lord (Jeremiah 25:1-6 and 2 Chronicles 36:15-16).

Disobey God’s Word. Know what we should do but don’t do it. Know what we shouldn’t do but do it anyway. Both of these God Israel in deep trouble.

Remember, it was Babylon who overtook the Israelites, but it was at God’s hand. Complacency – pleased, especially with oneself or one’s merits, situation, often without awareness of some potential danger or defect; self-satisfied.

It’s the mindset of “I’m good.” When we find ourselves in this mindset it can be dangerous. It’s a mindset of we have arrived, everyone else is the problem. We become jaded and often miss the glaring BLIND SPOTS.

Blinders, not doing what we know, our own attitude/status quo.

Bloated Believers.

We do a lot of taking in (reading, study, listening to sermons, own study, but never apply it). We have a lot of knowledge but have done nothing with it.

Lost first love Revelation 3:14-16 – better chance of getting hurt going half-heartedly.

Lost.

Living with a bent toward sin vs living in sin.

“Often before a great awakening there has to be a rude awakening”

What will it take for God to get our attention?

What will it take for you and me to commit to the Lord or come back to Him?

Could it be that God wants to send us a rude awakening before we get a great awakening?

Do we think the Israelites thought this was God’s will (captivity)?
