Sophomore middle blocker Makamae Namahoe led the squad to yet another ECCE tournament, while earning her second consecutive All-Conference recognition. Th e 2010 season was even better than the fi rst season of 2009 for Ogoshi, as the Pio- neersn earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament with 20-13 overall record for the year. A combinationc of leadership and youth helped propel C.W. Post to the big dance with senior MarilenaM Guadagnini and freshman Makamae Namahoe earning All-Conference nods. Th e 2009 season was a productive year for Ogoshi, as the Pioneers fi nished with a D record of 14 wins and 14 losses, earning her Coach of the Year honors within the Conference. Also, two Pioneer players were named

All-Conference Selections. Senior middle blocker Kerry Heitner and Freshman middle blocker Kirsten Taylor represented the Pio- C

neers. O Ogoshi spent one season as an assistant coach at her alma mater Hofstra University, where she assisted with all facets of the A program. Th e Hawaii native put together a standout four year career for the Pride, as evidenced by her jersey retirement in the fall of C

2008. Ogoshi played in 118 matches during her career and tallied 4,597 assists and 1,660 digs. She was a two-time Colonial Ath- H letic Association (CAA) Setter of the Year (2005 and 2006) and also earned 2005 CAA Player of the Year accolades. Th e 2004 CAA

Rookie of the Year and a CAA All-Rookie team selection, Ogoshi went on to earn All-CAA fi rst team honors in each of her next S

three seasons. In addition, she was an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Honorable Mention All-Region pick as a H sophomore and was the CAA Championship Most Outstanding Player in 2006. E In addition to her coaching stint at Hofstra, Ogoshi has also coached club volleyball with the Pakela Volleyball Club (Honolulu, L Hawaii) since 2004 and the TCA Volleyball Club (Hempstead, NY) since 2008. Jose Brito begins his fourth year on the staff , off ering over six years of prior coaching experience. Brito, a 2007 graduate of Hofstra University, coached junior varsity volleyball at Hewlett High School and currently serves as a clinic coach and trainer at Sportime in Bethpage, N.Y. Brito remains a coach at the LIBA Volleyball Club, as well as coaching junior varsity boy’s volleyball at Uniondale High School. He has a Bachelor’s degree in math and fi nished with his maters’s degree in Physical Education and is certifi ed by the state of New York in Physical Education K-12, as well as Adult CPR and First Aid..

Steinberg, the ninth president of Long Island University, has served the institution since 1985. Th e son of the late Rabbi Milton Steinberg of Manhattan’s Park Avenue Synagogue, he was born in New York City and was educated at Phillips Academy at Andover, Malvern College in England and Harvard College, from which he graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. After a Fulbright year at the University of the Philippines and a year at Columbia University on a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship, he returned to Harvard, where he earned an M.A. in East Asian ADMINISTRATION UNIVERSITY L LONG ISLAND

studies in 1963, and a Ph.D. in history in 1964. Dr. Steinberg also has received several honorary O degrees. N

He began his teaching career in the Department of History at the University of Michigan, G where he rose to the rank of full professor. In 1973, he joined the administration of Brandeis Uni- versity as executive assistant to the president, becoming vice president and university secretary in I

Th e author of numerous books and articles on Southeast Asia and, in particular, Philippine his- L tory, Dr. Steinberg has taught, lectured and written about this important area of the world for a third of a century. His fi rst book, A “Philippine Collaboration in World War II,” won the University Press Award in 1969. “Th e Philippines: A Singular and a Plural Place,” now in its third edition, was described by U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines Nicholas Platt as “the best single-volume N

guide to understanding the Philippines, past and present.” He also edited and co-authored both editions of “In Search of South- D east Asia,” one of the major textbooks on the area. Dr. Steinberg recently collaborated with top scholars from around the world to co-author “Th e Emergence of Modern Southeast Asia,” a new and multifaceted history of this complex region. In addition, he is a co-author of “Religion and Religiosity in the Philippines and Indonesia: Essays on State, Society and Public Creeds,” which was U

published in 2005. N

Dr. Steinberg was a member of the international observer team that monitored the Philippine presidential elections when I Corazon Aquino defeated Ferdinand Marcos. He has written numerous op-ed pieces and has been a consultant to UN agencies, V

Paul H. Forestell, a professor of psychology and an internationally renowned marine mammal M scientist, was appointed provost of the LIU Post Campus of Long Island University in July 2008. I

A seasoned administrator, Dr. Forestell served as vice president of the Pacifi c Whale Foundation N in Hawaii, as dean of undergraduate programs at Southampton College of Long Island University, and as associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at LIU Post. I S

As provost, Dr. Forestell leads one of the New York metropolitan area’s most respected private T

university campuses, with an enrollment of nearly 5,700 undergraduate, 3,100 graduates and 2,300 R

continuing education students. He is responsible for campus operations, program development, A admissions and recruitment, retention, fi nancial aid, athletics, student aff airs, public safety, and T buildings and grounds. I O His collaborative leadership style has contributed greatly to enhancing the student-centered mission of the University. In 2008, Dr. Forestell established the Division of Student Retention & Academic Support Services at C.W. Post to assist students in N achieving academic and career success. A champion of experiential learning, he coordinates study abroad and fi eld research op- portunities for students, and teaches classes in whale and dolphin behavior.

Dr. Forestell graduated from the University of New Brunswick in Canada with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and philoso- phy in 1972 and a master’s degree in experimental psychology in 1976. He earned a Ph.D. in comparative psychology from the University of Hawaii in 1988. He is the author of several peer-reviewed science articles and four books, including “Humpbacks of Hawai’i: Th e Long Journey Back.” 2012 Women’s Volleyball Record Book 17 17 LIULIU POSTPOST PIONEERSPIONEERS 2012 WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL , Director of Athletics Bryan Collins enters his seventh year as the Director of Athletics at LIU Post. Under Collins’ leadership, the Pioneers’ athletic programs have seen a continual rise in both the regional and national levels of athletic performance and academics.

Notable achievements during his tenure include 29 conference titles as well as NCAA cham- pionship titles from the 2007 and 2012 women’s lacrosse teams and the 2009 and 2010 men’s lacrosse teams.

Th is past season, the men’s and women’s cross country, men’s soccer, men’s and women’s bas- ketball, women’s swimming, women’s lacrosse and softball all participated in NCAA tournaments.

LIU Post boasts some of top-ranked programs in the country that are frequently ranked in nation- al polls. Th e Pioneers fi nished fi rst in the East Coast Conference Commissioner’s Cup standings for 2009-10 - the second Cup win (2006-07) during Collins’ tenure. Prior to the 2007-08 academic year, the football and fi eld hockey programs gained admission into the esteemed Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

E Off the fi eld, Collins has included community service as a part of his players’ responsibilities. During the 2011-12 academic

C year, LIU Post student-athletes completed a department record 3,484 hours of service. He currently serves as the Chairman of the National Kidney Foundation – Long Island Kidney Walk. N

E Collins is responsible for the creation of a department mission statement based on the foundation of athletic excellence as well as the initiation of the Academic Commitment Excellence (ACE) program, designed to improve attendance and academic R achievements in the classroom. In addition, LIU Post athletic programs are mentored by campus faculty and staff through the E Adopt-A-Faculty program. F

N In 2007-08, Collins established a Student-Athlete Orientation seminar and handbook as well as an annual student-athlete recognition dinner to recognize both athletic and academic success. Th e department also established an Academic Honor Roll to

O honor student-athletes’ who receive a minimum 3.0 grade point average. C

In addition, Collins serves on the East Coast Conference Ex- ecutive Committee and is also involved with the NCAA/ADA T Mentoring Program. He currently serves on regional advisory

S committees for men’s lacrosse and baseball. A Collins has overseen improvements to the athletic facili-

O ties on campus, including the installation of FieldTurf on Hickox Field as well as a brand new state-of-the art sound system for C

the stadium. In addition, all of the outdoor athletic fi elds have undergone improvements to their playing surface. Th e Pratt T Recreation Center Gymnasium, home to the basketball and vol- S leyball teams, received a new sound system as well as a working

E EAST COAST CONFERENCE Collins’ biggest undertaking yet has been overseeing the Pioneer Spirit Campaign to raise funding for the brand new outdoor stadium complete with brand new seatback bleachers, which will break ground following the 2012 football and fi eld hockey seasons and open in Fall 2013.

A former student-athlete at St. John’s University, Collins played linebacker on the Red Storm’s football team and was the recipient of the Dr. Peter Vitulli Award, given to the St. John’s student-athlete who demonstrated the most courage, persever- ance, dedication and spirit of self-sacrifi ce in seeking to attain the highest ideals of sportsmanship. Collins received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1987.

Collins and his wife, Patti, reside in Sayville, N.Y. with their son, Tyler (17) and daughter, Megan (12).
