As a larger phone, the Optimus G Pro competes directly with two major Samsung devices: the 5.5” Galaxy Note II and the 4.8” S III. Samsung is expected to announce replacements to both of these devices shortly following MWC.

Below we look at volume around product announcements, comparing the same time range around the Optimus G Pro versus the 2012 announcements for the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II. On the 19th of February, HTC announced their latest flagship phone, the HTC One. The One’s 4.7” display is smaller than on the Optimus G Pro, although they feature the same Full- HD resolution. Additionally, HTC is heavily promoting the device’s “UltraPixel” camera alongside a number of other highlights, all of which help to drive interest in the device.
