South Australian Government Boards and Committees Information As at 30 June 2019 Public-I1-A1 South Australian Government Boards and Committees As at 30 June 2019 Introduction This is the 22nd annual report to Parliament of consolidated South Australian Government board and committee information. The report sets out the membership and remuneration arrangements of 196 part-time government boards and committees as at 30 June 2019 in order of ministerial portfolio. The information has been sourced from the Boards and Committees Information System (BCIS), a database administered by the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, following extensive consultation with all ministerial offices and stakeholder agencies. Definition of boards and committees in the report The boards and committees included in this report are those which are: • established by or under an Act of Parliament of South Australia (generally excluding the Local Government Act 1999) and have a majority of members appointed by either a minister or the Governor; or • established by a minister or legal instrument such as a constitution or charter, have a majority of members appointed by a minister, and have at least one member in receipt of remuneration. The report should not be considered to be a complete listing of all government boards and committees. Page 1 of 7 Public-I1-A1 Highlights Number of boards and committees 196 boards and committees are identified in the 2019 report. This is an increase of 4 when compared with the 2018 report. Portfolios with the greatest number of boards and committees are Minister for Environment and Water (46), Minister for Health and Wellbeing (32), Premier (19) and Treasurer (19). Cost of boards and committees The total cost of remuneration for boards and committees at 30 June 2019 is estimated to be just over $11.37 million. The funding breakdown is as follows: $0.76m Government (102 (6.7%) boards) External (47 boards) $4.25m $6.36m Mixed (27 boards) (37.4%) (55.9%) 20 boards were not remunerated Diversity on boards and committees 1851 board and committee positions were held on 30 June 2019. This comprised 915 men (49.4%) and 936 women (50.6%). 161 board and committee positions (8.7%) were held by people who identified as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. The report is a snapshot of the data recorded on BCIS as at 30 June 2019; it does not include boards which ceased operating prior to 30 June or member resignations that occurred prior to 30 June. 2. The report is tabled in Parliament on an annual basis within eight weeks of the end of the financial year, subject to Parliamentary sitting dates. 3. Accountability and responsibility for the accuracy of the information rests with each minister. 4. Fee information is provided in full, and includes • any annual, sessional or hourly amounts paid to members • the source of remuneration funding, and • an ‘Additional Fee Information’ field to provide additional information and fee explanations when necessary or relevant.
