The settlement may result in hours of The Witcher 3: Wild Sony doling out as much as $17.75 million, which includes an offer for one free game (PS3 or Hunt Posted on Jan 26th 2015 10:00AM PSP only), three PS3 themes or credit for three months of PlayStation Plus membership (valid only for new subscribers). The claimant groups are divided based on whether PSN account holders prior to May 15, 2011 ADVERTISEMENT took advantage of the "Welcome Back" program following the intrusion. Those that did not accept the PSN Welcome Back offer can claim two of the benefit options among the games, themes and PS Plus membership credit on a first come, first served basis until a $6 million allocation from Sony is reached. For those that did take advantage of the program, they will receive one of the benefits above until a $4 million allocation is reached. The non-Welcome Back account holders can select the same benefit twice, so receiving two free games is an option for claimants. Once the allocated amounts are reached, further claimants will receive one month of PS Plus credit. Likewise, up to three claims can be made per household, and further claims from the same household will receive one month of PS Plus. Those benefiting from the settlement will pick from a list of eight PS3 games and six PSP games, of which include Dead Nation, Infamous, LittleBigPlanet, Super Stardust HD and Rain on PS3. As for PSP, the list includes LittleBigPlanet, ModNation Racers, Patapon 3 and Killzone Liberation. The rest of the eligible games have not been determined, but will have launched six months of more from the time the claims form is posted online and will be "similar quality as those above." As for the PS3 themes, claimants will have their pick of three themes from a list of six, as designated on the claims form. The settlement also benefits Sony Online Entertainment users who can receive $4.50 in Station Cash on a first come, first served basis, up to $4 million total. Sony also will pay out up to $1 million to those that suffered from identity theft as a result of the 2011 security breach; those with valid claims will be entitled to receive up to $2,500. Eligible Qriocity account holders without a PSN account can receive one month of free Music Unlimited service as well, and those with unused money in their dormant PSN wallets since the intrusion can file a claim for credit for that money, resulting in closure of the account. Sony will pay up to $2.75 million in attorneys fees combined as a result of the settlement. I'm pretty sure I remember reading about that, since at that time I didn't own a PS3. Like Reply hasnoexcuse Jul 24, 2014 That's pretty cool, but I already got the Welcome Back bundle, which I thought was compensation enough. I wasn't one of those that immediately filed a lawsuit, immeeeediately thought I was entitled to something and immeeeeeeeeeediately had my hand out. I thought Sony handled it well, back in the day, and I'm just as strong of a fan now as I was with my PSX in 1998. That said, while I think they've done more than enough, I won't turn down a free game. 4 Like Reply brokedownsystem Jul 24, 2014 As for compensation, $25 of PSN credit wouldn't hurt given that alot of us already had the freebies listed in the WB program. That's half the cost of a year of PS Plus. How many months of service did people lose? 2 at most? I can't remember. Like Reply SniperFox Jul 24, 2014 @brokedownsystem 1...and they gave that back already. They added the amount of time lost to your account. They are also offering PS+ as one of the claims that can be made in the settlement. Like Reply brokedownsystem Jul 25, 2014 @SniperFox The psn compensation isn't terribly important to me, I picked up a free game or two and have no complaints. But there's still a bunch of angry ingrates who still feel like they haven't been given a fair shake by Sony. 2 Like Reply k6000 Jul 25, 2014 @brokedownsystem The outage lasted for 24 days. Altho, the average Microsoft fanboy will tell you it lasted for a year and a half. I'm not saying it wasn't bad, or anything, I'm just saying people like to blow it out of proportion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Network_outage (they will) Never forget. 41711 Like Reply X_COP Jul 25, 2014 @k6000 It was like, 2 years at least. Like Reply brokedownsystem Jul 24, 2014 they're making this way too complicated (e.g. people who accepted the wb offer vs the people didn't, blah blah blah, blah blah). Instead, Sony should just cover the cost of hitmen to find these lolzsec mf's and cut their balls off, or otherwise beat the living shit out of them. Those guys are the real ones at fault here. This is all it's teaching people. Why would you sue the victim of a crime? 3 Like Reply cficare Jul 24, 2014 @Soldierone It's called criminal negligence. If I get you to give me your credit card info or sensitive info, then that info is taken from me or used by me in a way detrimental to you, then that's grounds for me to make it right, or for you to get the legal system to force me to make it right. No one sues a car company for a traffic accident unless, say, the fucking car turns off mid drive. I know! A crazy scenario never likely to happen! OH WAIT! 3 Like Reply thegameroomblitz Jul 24, 2014 @Soldierone Won't somebody think of the massive corporations?! Seriously, Sony is getting off really easy here. They let themselves get hacked, along with many of their customers' bank accounts, and all they're offering those customers is a dated game and a theme for their Playstation 3s? Pretty freaking weak. Reminds me of when Nintendo was found guilty of anticompetitive business practices and was sentenced to giving their customers five dollar certificates for their next NES game purchase. Really? REALLY?! I'm glad we take such a STRONG STAND against corporate crime in the United States. I'm sure that slap on the wrist will keep them from ever doing it again! 2 Like Reply brokenpinataAZ Jul 25, 2014 @thegameroomblitz @Soldierone But, but, but.... corporations are people. Very powerful, very rich people. Like Reply jmilvstheworld Jul 25, 2014 @thegameroomblitz @Soldierone Its all dependent on what the settlement amount is vs. how many people were affected. The more people, the less per person. Its simple math. I remember there was a class action suit against the original Xbox about some issue with power supplies. My settlement check ended up being like a dollar and change. Like Reply EricRich Jul 24, 2014 @dept667 It's an obscenely small settlement on something that could have been hundreds of millions or even billions. Of course the stock is going to go up. 1 Like Reply dept667 Jul 24, 2014 @EricRich @dept667 Up is not the logical outcome. It's a loss of money, not an investment that'll bring in revenue. Like Reply cbensisko Jul 24, 2014 @dept667 @EricRich Or it could be that the market was waiting to see the outcome and then took a sigh of relief the settlement was smaller than expected. They could have been hit hard similar to whats going with Target. Like Reply Nathan_DTS Jul 24, 2014 Free Rain.
