BIOGRAPHY Shaykh Hamza Imtiyaz S The Lineage of the Prophet SAW E

S Nasab is the term for lineage.

S The lineage of the Prophet SAW all up to Ibrahim AS is

I considered reliable, but the lineage until Adam AS is up

O for debate amongst the scholars.

N Why is it important to know lineages? A person's lineage is a means of knowing their

3 identity. It is also a way to know who has rights upon you and who does not. There are distinct features of the lineage of the Prophet SAW. All of the people in his (SAW) lineage came from legitimate marriages (no affairs) and were generally the nobles of their time. The companions from the household of the Prophet SAW, the Ahlul Bayt, are also recognized for their lineage and connection with the Prophet SAW. 1 p.g. S This was the grandfather of the Prophet SAW.

S His name was Shayba and he was considered to be the

I greatest leader of the .

O He had many honorable qualities including: He made alcohol forbidden on himself N He fed the destitute in Ramadan He originated the tradition of seclusion/isolation in 3 the Cave of Hira. He had a dream about the location of the well of ZamZam and he was the first to find it again after many years of it being hidden. His (SAW) Parents was considered to be one of the most beautiful and honorable women of her time. ‘Abdullah, the son of ‘Abd Al Muttalib and the father of the Prophet SAW, would marry her. After they were married, he set out to Syria for trade and died two months before the birth of the Prophet SAW. At the time he was young, and did not have much wealth, so he did not leave much behind for his family. This ensured that the Prophet SAW would not be coming out of a dynasty.

S During her pregnancy she stated that she saw a vision of a S light that came out of her womb and lit the palaces of I Syria in Shaam. O She also felt no pain during her pregnancy, which was part N of the blessing of the Prophet SAW.

The Year of the Elephant also happened right before the

3 Prophet SAW entered the world. ‘Abd Al Muttalib was inspired with dreams to name him , a name which was unheard of at the time. The Prophet SAW as a Child The custom was to send children to the desert in their youth. This is because Makkah was a trade center and was a crowded area and the desert was seen as more serene. Also, the dialects of Arabic would change and the eloquent Arabic was difficult to pick up on in the city. The Arabic spoken in the desert was closer to the true form of Arabic. Sayyida Halima RA was from a group of ten women from Banu Saad. They would come to the city to take children to the desert to be nursed.

3 p.g. E D U C A T I O N | P R E S E R V A T I O N | A P P L I C A T I O N S It was a bad year for her. E Her mule was old and barely able to walk, and her S one animal would not give her much milk. S None of the other women would take the Prophet SAW I because he was an orphan and they did not expect O much in return for nursing him. N Out of the goodness of her heart, she took him (SAW).

In prophethood the Prophet SAW honored her just

3 as if she was her mother. Later on, she said she felt a rush of milk in her body and she found that there was milk in the goat. Her lacking mule also became stronger and faster. They were initially confused but realized they had taken a blessed child. Because of his blessings (SAW), they did not want to give him back to Aminah. She requested to take him back to the desert because of the sicknesses that were in Makkah at the time. Early on when they took him SAW back again, they experienced two men coming and splitting him open. This was explained later on as two angels coming and cleaning his heart of the ability that shaytaan has over the human. His (SAW) heart was washed and placed back in his chest (this would happen multiple times in his life). There were physical indications of his chest being split as noted by other Companions. 4 p.g. E D U C A T I O N | P R E S E R V A T I O N | A P P L I C A T I O N S Because of this incident, they were worried for him E (SAW) and gave him back to Aminah. S The Prophet SAW and his mother went to Madina to visit S his father’s grave. I , who the Prophet SAW described as 'my O mother after my mother', was with them as well. N When they reached Abwa, Aminah was nearing her death.

She was able to mutter a few words before she passed

3 away. She said: Every living person is to die and every new thing becomes old, but one thing that I know is that I have fulfilled my purpose in this world. I have given birth to a pure child. This was the last thing that she said before she passed away. The Prophet SAW was only 6 years old at this time and he did not want to leave his mother's side. Eventually, Umm Ayman had to bring him away from his mother. The Prophet SAW had great love for his mother and he would tell his Companions later on in his life. There were instances where the Prophet SAW and the companions would be coming back from a battle and he would tell them all to stop in a random location in the desert. He would pray 2 rakaahs in that area and then tell them that this was the location in which his mother passed away. 5 p.g. E D U C A T I O N | P R E S E R V A T I O N | A P P L I C A T I O N S The Prophet SAW went into the care of his grandfather, E Abd Al-Muttalib after his mother passed away. S He took great care of him. S About a year later, Abd Al-Muttalib passed away. I This again was a very difficult time for the Prophet O SAW because he was very close to his grandfather. N Lessons From the Early Hardships of the Prophet SAW

3 No person can say that the Prophet's SAW family set things up for him. He lost all of this family members at a young age, so they were unable to help him with any of his successes. Only a person who has been through these hardships can relate to others who go through them. The Prophet SAW had the most challenging life and he had the biggest responsibility and he was still able to fulfill it. When a person goes through hardships, they generally find their purpose and they find themselves closer to Allah SWT. When the Prophet's SAW family passed away, he found his purpose in life which was to spread the message of .
