Position Description National Campaign Coordinator

The National Campaign Coordinator plays a critical role in preparing the Party for federal election campaigns. The National Campaign Coordinator also undertakes national level organisation for issue based campaigns in between federal elections and liaises regularly with the federal MPs. This is a challenging position with its focus altering over the course of the federal election cycle as the Party moves into and out of election campaigns. The are seeking an accomplished campaign co-ordinator to take a leading role in its campaign activities. The successful candidate will be highly motivated with energy and initiative, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Expectations

Overall, the expectations of the position are to – • Work collaboratively and proactively with the National Manager, national staff and the National Campaign Committee to develop and implement successful campaign strategies. • Proactively liaise with campaign staff in State and MP offices to keep all stakeholders informed of and committed to campaign strategies and their progress towards implementation, and to identify gaps in implementation requiring attention and best practice approaches which should be promoted elsewhere. • Develop, promote and assist with the implementation of tools and procedures which increase the effectiveness and success of campaign techniques across the Party. • Develop clear project specifications for volunteers and external contractors on campaign tasks and actively manage those to whom projects are delegated. • Undertake other tasks as directed by the National Manager.

The scope of potential activity for this position is extensive, covering: • Development and oversight of campaign strategies • Research into voting intentions and messaging • Advertising creative and design • Materials production • Online campaign content, social media and communications • Fundraising communications • Campaigning systems • Preferences coordination • Liaison with State campaigns and Party Room • On the ground campaign support to State activities • Training for candidates and campaign teams • Overseas voting coordination • National campaign launch • Campaign budgeting.

The actual role to be played by the National Campaign Coordinator in relation to these activities is subject to the skills of the person appointed, their capacity to manage multiple responsibilities, and the resource and skills base available across the broader campaign team. Some interstate travel will be required of this position.

Selection Criteria:

• Demonstrated electoral or other campaign experience; • An understanding of the Australian Greens and support for the party's principles, policies and decision making processes; • Well-developed understanding of the federal political system and political parties; • Excellent written, oral communication and interpersonal skills; • Demonstrable capacity for innovative strategic and analytical thinking; • Excellent managerial skills, including the ability to coordinate volunteers and paid staff; • Ability to work in a small team and provide leadership as required; • Ability to manage a tight budget; • Ability to work under pressure and meet short deadlines; • Excellent computer skills; • Able to undertake interstate travel as required; • An appropriate Australian or New Zealand work visa (if applicable).

Relationship to Others:

Directly supervised by: National Manager

Works closely with: National Campaign Committee, staff across all offices including those of MPs, and campaign volunteers across the country.

Location:

The base of activity for this position will be negotiated with the National Manager.

Conditions:

This full-time position is to commence immediately and is subject to an initial three month probationary period. While it is intended that this position is ongoing, due to funding constraints this is a contract position running until 31 December 2015. Should funding permit, this contract will be renewed for a further period to 31 December 2016 and confirmation of the renewal will be provided by 30 November 2015. The position is subject to the conditions of the “The Australian Greens Staff Collective Agreement 2015” and is classified under this agreement as a Project Officer. The requirements of the position will include some evening and weekend work. The salary for this position begins at $79,559 per annum plus 9.5% superannuation.
