Head Coach Bob Nielson Bob Nielson was introduced as the 30th head coach in the history of University of South Dakota football in December of 2015. It is the sixth head coaching stint for Nielson, who has enjoyed success at every level of college football. He is a three-time national coach of the year recipient, a two-time national champion head coach, and was Missouri Valley Football Conference Coach of the Year in 2016. The 2019 season is the 27th for Nielson as a head coach.

Nielson has been labeled a builder throughout his career and 2017 certainly added to that NIELSON’S COACHING FILE legacy. In just his second season with the COACHING HISTORY Coyotes, Nielson led the program to a record 1981-86 Wartburg College eight wins at the Division I level and to the FCS Offensive Line Coach playoffs for the first time. It marked the fifth 1987-88 Wartburg College consecutive program that has reached the Defensive Coordinator playoffs within four years of Nielson taking the 1989-90 Ripon College helm. 1996-98 UW-Eau Claire Nielson crossed yet another milestone in 2018.
