Mohawk-Girls-Press-Kit-Season-3.Pdf SEASON 3 PRESS KIT Contact: Christina Fon | Rezolution Pictures | [email protected] | 514-272-8241 www.mohawkgirls.com TAGLINE Welcome to our world. (Just watch your back.) LOGLINE Mohawk Girls is a half hour dramatic comedy about four young women figuring out how to be Mohawk in the 21st century. SYNOPSIS - SHORT What does it mean to be a modern day Mohawk woman? Mohawk Girls is a half hour dramatic comedy about four young women trying to figure out the answer. But with their parents, friends, community, and even the plumber having an opinion, it’s an impossible task. SYNOPSIS - LONG Mohawk Girls is a comedic look at the lives of four modern-day women trying to stay true to their roots while they navigate sex, work, love, and the occasional throw down. This is life on the reserve like you've never seen it before – modern, tough, and funny. Depicting many of the same conflicts experienced by all Canadian cultures, Mohawk Girls highlights the struggle to find a balance between love, romance and identity on one hand, and preserving a culture on the other. Bailey wants to be the “perfect” Mohawk, but she’s ready to see what life beyond the “rez” feels like. Caitlin craves love from all the wrong men, including her absent dad and bad-boy boyfriend. Type-A Zoe is driven by the need to succeed while serving her community, but she’s got a secret, kinky, side to her. Anna, the newcomer to the “rez”, has a Mohawk father and a white mother and is having a hard time figuring out the rules in Kahnawake. It’s Sex and the City – Mohawk style! Bailey, down in the dumps after betraying Anna’s confidence, finds a way to make herself feel better - much better. Caitlin knows that Butterhead isn’t good enough to be her baby daddy but can’t quite admit that he isn’t good enough for her. Anna tries to pick up the pieces after everyone finds out that she’s less than 50% Native. Episode 302 - Pinó Noir Zoe makes up with Lollipop only to realize that everyone else has a beef with her too. Bailey enjoys the excitement of an illicit affair… then has to face its consequences. Caitlin embarks on a self-help journey and gets support from an unlikely - and sexy - source. Anna tries to atone for beating up Tulip but her efforts lead her to feel like the world’s worst Mohawk. Episode 303 - Where are the Feathers? Anna tries to prove that she’s more Mohawk than the Mohawks. Bailey is thrilled with her budding new relationship… mostly. Caitlin is determined to have it all… if only she can figure out how. Zoe hatches a plan to make the community like her again - a personality makeover! Episode 304 - Self-Helpless Anna ups her involvement in the community and it ends up scaring the hell out of her. Caitlin tries to push herself through a baby shower. Bailey compromises and finds middle ground in her relationship… but it’s exhausting. Zoe tries to find a new partner for her sexual escapes. Episode 305 - Going Native The girls drag Bailey on a birthday trip to lift her spirits but it goes awry all too quickly. Caitlin tries to stick to the last vestiges of her self-help journey but Butterhead distracts her from it. Zoe, desperate for another sexual escape, finds a new - and creepy - partner. Empowered by her new Warrior Coalition friends, Anna takes a stand at university. Contact: Christina Fon | Rezolution Pictures | [email protected] | 514-272-8241 Episode 306 - To Flee or not to Flee? As pressure mounts in Zoe’s life, her addiction gets out of hand. Bailey isn’t so hot on her relationship with the new guy… ‘til he gives her the ultimate surprise. Caitlin gets loving from all sides and has to choose. Anna is forced to choose between family and the community. Beginning her career in documentary, Tracey teamed up with Rezolution Pictures for feature documentaries One More River: The Deal that Split the Cree, Mohawk Girls, and Club Native, as well as the documentary series Working it Out Together, seasons I & II. This collaboration has continued into fiction television with Mohawk Girls, the series which she co-created, directs and co-executive produces. A graduate of Dartmouth College’s Film Studies program, Tracey formed her own production company, Mohawk Princess Pictures, in 2006, and recently produced Sex, Spirit, Strength, a feature-length documentary about reclaiming healthy sexuality in Aboriginal communities, and Dream Big, a 13-part youth empowerment documentary series, both for APTN’s 2015 fall season. Her work has been honoured with two Gemini awards and has earned acclaim from multiple film festivals, including Hot Docs and DOXA. She has worked with the CBC, the NFB, and numerous independent production companies throughout Canada. In 2008, Playback Magazine declared her one of the 25 rising stars in the Canadian Entertainment Industry. Tracey has multiple projects in development, including her first fiction feature film with Ema Films. Having dreamed of this career since she was twelve-years-old, Tracey is ecstatic at being a visual storyteller – and hopes that her work has a positive impact on the world. “Tracey represents the next wave of Native filmmaking,” says Adam Symansky, NFB producer of Mohawk Girls and Club Native, “It isn’t based on the past so much as on Native communities taking responsibility and control of their future. That is the challenge she is putting out in her films.” Contact: Christina Fon | Rezolution Pictures | [email protected] | 514-272-8241 Cynthia Knight Writer / Executive Producer Cynthia Knight is a writer, story editor and executive producer with experience in both feature film and television. Cynthia first tested the rocky waters of filmmaking with her short film Virtual Insanity, which won the NSI’s Drama Prize award and was chosen by SODEC to represent Quebec at the Clermont-Ferrand film festival. She then ventured into features, writing such fare as the black comedy Motel Vacancy for director Claude Paré, the romantic comedy Hotel Santa Cruz for producer John Buchanan, and the thriller The Actress for GPA Films. Then she decided to get into TV in order to pay the rent because the features were never produced. After graduating from the Canadian Film Centre’s Prime Time Television Writers’ Program, Cynthia worked as a story editor on several factual projects including the series From the Ground Up with Debbie Travis for Global, the award-winning documentary feature RiP: A remix manifesto from EyeSteel Film, Galafilm’s docu-drama The Beat for CityTV, and helped develop the documentary feature Aglow in the Dark for the National Film Board of Canada. Moving into fiction, Cynthia worked as writer/story editor on the animated series Amos Daragon for Spectra Animation, wrote several MOWs including Storm Cell for Lifetime, has written for both seasons of the popular CBC comedy series Sophie, and has managed to pay Revenue Canada all of her back taxes. Cynthia’s foray into showrunning came on Mohawk Girls, the half-hour dramatic comedy for APTN, the third season of which just aired in fall, 2015. On the feature side, Cynthia has story edited an array of projects including the feature documentary Gun Runners for the National Film Board of Canada and the feature fiction Irish Beach for Bitter Boy Productions. She also has her own feature - the romantic comedy Vacationship - in development with Peripheria Prouctions and supported by Telefilm Canada. Cynthia has also worked as a development executive for many years, including a two-year stint developing English projects at the award-winning, Montreal-based production company Attraction Images and before that, she worked as a development associate at Muse Entertainment. She also has extensive experience in production, and is both a romantic and a cynic who can’t decide which side dominates. • Ryga, Miss Donohue, and Me: Forty Years of the Ecstasy of Rita Joe in the University
TRiC38#1x12.qxp_TRiC'16 2017-05-30 11:03 AM Page 11 ARTICLES Ryga, Miss Donohue, and Me: Forty Years of The Ecstasy of Rita Joe in the University MOIRA DAY This article is dedicated to the memory of Frank Bueckert (1922-2017), a valued friend, mentor, and teacher. While the seminal role that George Ryga’s 1967 classic, The Ecstasy of Rita Joe, played in igniting the modern Canadian theatre has often been acknowledged, the extent to which its success also constituted a concentrated attack on what Ryga termed the “complacent educator” in 1977, and helped revolution- ize the publication and teaching of Canadian plays at the post-secondary level, may have been less well acknowledged. This article, which documents Moira Day’s own forty-year odyssey with the play in the (largely) prairie university classroom as both a student and an instructor, investigates the play’s initial impact on scholarship, publication, curriculum at the post-secondary level, and some of its ramifications on school and university production and actor training over the 1970 and 1980s. It also deals with the challenges of continuing to teach and interpret the play from the 1990s onward, as new practices and theories have continued to alter its meaning, and considers why this odd, iconoclastic text, despite its flaws, continues to fascinate us fifty years after its initial production.

Narrated by Diamond with infectious enthusiasm and good humor, Reel Injun: On the Trail of the Hollywood Indian is a loving look at cinema through the eyes of the people who appeared in its very first flickering images and have survived to tell their stories their own way. Reel Injun: On the Trail of the Hollywood Indian will air nationally on the upcoming season of the Emmy® Award-winning PBS series Independent Lens in November 2010. Tracing the evolution of cinema’s depiction of Native people from the silent film era to today, Diamond takes the audience on a journey across America to some of cinema’s most iconic landscapes, including Monument Valley, the setting for Hollywood’s greatest Westerns, and the Black Hills of South Dakota, home to Crazy Horse and countless movie legends.

This led them to an absorption with the Jewish creation myths in Genesis, which they obsessively reinterpreted to formulate allegorical explanations of how humans ended up trapped in the world of matter. The basic Gnostic story, which varied in details from teacher to teacher, was this: In the beginning there was an unknowable, immaterial, and invisible God, sometimes called the Father of All and sometimes by other names. “He” was neither male nor female, and was composed of an implicitly finite amount of a living nonphysical substance. Surrounding this God was a great empty region called the Pleroma (the fullness). Beyond the Pleroma lay empty space. The God acted to fill the Pleroma through a series of emanations, a squeezing off of small portions of his/its nonphysical energetic divine material. In most accounts there are thirty emanations in fifteen complementary pairs, each getting slightly less of the divine material and therefore being slightly weaker. The emanations are called Aeons (eternities) and are mostly named personifications in Greek of abstract ideas.
