What does mean to be a modern day Mohawk woman? is a half hour dramatic comedy about four young women trying to figure out the answer. But with their parents, friends, community, and even the plumber having an opinion, it’s an impossible task. SYNOPSIS - LONG

Mohawk Girls is a comedic look at the lives of four modern-day women trying to stay true to their roots while they navigate sex, work, love, and the occasional throw down. This is life on the reserve like you've never seen it before – modern, tough, and funny. Depicting many of the same conflicts experienced by all Canadian cultures, Mohawk Girls highlights the struggle to find a balance between love, romance and identity on one hand, and preserving a culture on the other. Bailey wants to be the “perfect” Mohawk, but ’s ready to see what life beyond the “rez” feels like. Caitlin craves love from all the wrong men, including her absent and bad-boy boyfriend. Type-A Zoe is driven by the need to succeed while serving her community, but she’s got a secret, kinky, side to her. Anna, the newcomer to the “rez”, has a Mohawk father and a white mother and is having a hard time figuring out the rules in . It’s Sex and the City – Mohawk style! Episode 301 - Apology Week

Zoe tries to weasel her way back into Lollipop’s good graces. Bailey, down in the dumps after betraying Anna’s confidence, finds a way to make herself feel better - much better. Caitlin knows that Butterhead isn’t good enough to be her baby daddy but can’t quite admit that he isn’t good enough for her. Anna tries to pick up the pieces after everyone finds out that she’s less than 50% Native. Episode 302 - Pinó Noir

Zoe makes up with Lollipop only to realize that everyone else has a beef with her too. Bailey enjoys the excitement of an illicit affair… then has to face its consequences. Caitlin embarks on a self-help journey and gets support from an unlikely - and sexy - source. Anna tries to atone for beating up Tulip but her efforts lead her to feel like the world’s worst Mohawk. The girls drag Bailey on a birthday trip to lift her spirits but it goes awry all too quickly. Caitlin tries to stick to the last vestiges of her self-help journey but Butterhead distracts her from it. Zoe, desperate for another sexual escape, finds a new - and creepy - partner. Empowered by her new Warrior Coalition friends, Anna takes a stand at university.

Tracey Deer Creator / Director / Executive Producer

Award-winning Mohawk filmmaker has multiple credits to her name as producer, writer and director in both documentary and fiction.

Beginning her career in documentary, Tracey teamed up with Rezolution Pictures for feature documentaries One More River: The Deal that Split the , Mohawk Girls, and , as well as the documentary series Working it Out Together, seasons I & II. This collaboration has continued into fiction television with Mohawk Girls, the series which she co-created, directs and co-executive produces.

A graduate of Dartmouth College’s Film Studies program, Tracey formed her own production company, Mohawk Princess Pictures, in 2006, and recently produced Sex, Spirit, Strength, a feature-length documentary about reclaiming healthy sexuality in Aboriginal communities, and Dream Big, a 13-part youth empowerment documentary series, both for APTN’s 2015 fall season.

Her work has been honoured with two and has earned acclaim from multiple film festivals, including Hot Docs and DOXA. She has worked with the CBC, the NFB, and numerous independent production companies throughout . In 2008, Playback Magazine declared her one of the 25 rising stars in the Canadian Entertainment Industry.

Tracey has multiple projects in development, including her first fiction feature film with Ema Films. Having dreamed of this career since she was twelve-years-old, Tracey is ecstatic at being a visual storyteller – and hopes that her work has a positive impact on the world.

“Tracey represents the next wave of Native filmmaking,” says Adam Symansky, NFB producer of Mohawk Girls and Club Native, “It isn’t based on the past so much as on Native communities taking responsibility and control of their future. That is the challenge she is putting out in her films.”

Cynthia Knight is a writer, story editor and executive producer with experience in both feature film and television.

Cynthia first tested the rocky waters of filmmaking with her short film Virtual Insanity, which won the NSI’s Drama Prize award and was chosen by SODEC to represent at the Clermont-Ferrand film festival. She then ventured into features, writing such fare as the black comedy Motel Vacancy for director Claude Paré, the romantic comedy Hotel Santa Cruz for producer John Buchanan, and the thriller The Actress for GPA Films. Then she decided to get into TV in order to pay the rent because the features were never produced.

After graduating from the Canadian Film Centre’s Prime Time Television Writers’ Program, Cynthia worked as a story editor on several factual projects including the series From the Ground Up with Debbie Travis for Global, the award-winning documentary feature RiP: A remix manifesto from EyeSteel Film, Galafilm’s docu-drama The Beat for , and helped develop the documentary feature Aglow in the Dark for the National Film Board of Canada.

Moving into fiction, Cynthia worked as writer/story editor on the Amos Daragon for Spectra Animation, wrote several MOWs including Storm Cell for Lifetime, has written for both seasons of the popular CBC comedy series Sophie, and has managed to pay Revenue Canada all of her back taxes.

Cynthia’s foray into showrunning came on Mohawk Girls, the half-hour dramatic comedy for APTN, the third season of which just aired in fall, 2015.

On the feature side, Cynthia has story edited an array of projects including the feature documentary Gun Runners for the National Film Board of Canada and the feature fiction Irish Beach for Bitter Boy Productions. She also has her own feature - the romantic comedy Vacationship - in development with Peripheria Prouctions and supported by Telefilm Canada.

Cynthia has also worked as a development executive for many years, including a two-year stint developing English projects at the award-winning, -based production company Attraction Images and before that, she worked as a development associate at Muse Entertainment. She also has extensive experience in production, and is both a romantic and a cynic who can’t decide which side dominates.

Carl Freed has emerged as a respected film editor, writer, and filmmaker. He is an award- winning creative artist whose work stretches from documentaries and features to television series and specials for networks in Canada and the United States.

Carl is a trusted partner to leading Canadian filmmakers and is at on projects ranging from soulful to slapstick. He was on the team winning two Gemini Awards from the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television for the documentary Club Native. His work has been selected by film festivals including Hot Docs, the Montreal World Film Festival, DOK Leipzig, and by the Smithsonian Institution.

Carl is frequently sought out as a show doctor to help turn the proverbial shoebox of assorted elements into a well-crafted production. Carl is the co-writer and film editor on The Lady in Number 6, winner of the 2014 Academy Award for Best Short Documentary.

Mario Sevigny Composer

Mario Sevigny is a multi-instrument-vocalist and composer who’s scored films and television for over 15 years.

After cutting his teeth on Edward for , Mario worked on over sixty movie trailers for Christal Films, Alliance Atlantis Vivafilm, TVA Films, and Equinoxe Films. He then scored the series Tripping the Rift, a US/Canada co-production with NBC Universal and Cinégroupe that aired in over 58 countries.

Mario’s work for the Quebec market includes such prestigious and popular films as À vos marques… Party!, Noémie : le secret, Lance et Compte, Miss Météo, Bienvenue aux dames, Sur le Rythme, and the 8th season of the series version of Lance et Compte. Mario also has an extensive track record on English series and features such as Pinnoccio, 3000, Human Trafficking, the animated series Sharky and George as well as Golfers Anonymous for NBC Universal, the web series Coming Out, and the game show Pop Quiz for E! Canada.

Jenny Pudavick is a Métis actress from , Manitoba. She attended the University of Winnipeg’s theatre program and has over 18 years of on-camera experience. Her most recent credits include a recurring role on Pinkertons, a lead role in 20th Century Fox’s feature Wrong Turn 4 and The Last Christmas, as well as a recurring role in the TV series Cashing In, and a principal role in . Jenny is a regular acting coach and instructor for film and television at Armstrong Acting Studios in Toronto. Before acting became her full-time passion and career, Jenny was a Canadian National Team Rhythmic Gymnast. She competed all over North America and Europe, from age six to 18 and placed 3rd in the 1999 Pan American Games. Watch for Jenny in Paul Gross’ soon to be released feature film Hyena Road where she plays Mary opposite Alan Hawko (Jake Doyle of Republic of Doyle).

Brittany LeBorgne Zoe

Brittany LeBorgne is from the Mohawk community of Kahnawake, on the south shore of Montreal, Quebec. Although Mohawk Girls is Brittany’s first lead role, she got her start at age 9, performing with Kahnawake’s Turtle Island Theatre Company, where she first worked with Mohawk Girls Creator and Director Tracey Deer. Some of the most memorable roles she played were Sandy in Grease, Adelaide in Guys and Dolls, and Maria in The Sound Of Music. Brittany attended John Abbott College’s Theatre Workshop Program, and she also holds a B.A. in Journalism from Concordia University. Brittany got her start in the film and television world when she appeared in Discovery Channel’s Accident Investigator, and alongside Oscar-winner Melissa Leo in the 2008 film Frozen River. Brittany also works behind the camera as a director, on the upcoming Mohawk Princess Pictures produced Thunder Blanket, and APTN’s Dream Big and Working It Out Together III.

At 12 she joined Kahnawake’s Turtle Island Theatre Company where she first honed skills as an actor and singer – favourite roles include Mama Rose – Gypsy, Mame – Mame, Winnifred – Once Upon A Mattress and Chris Gorman – Rumors. After graduating from Concordia University with a specialization in Theatre Performance, Heather continued her acting training at the Centre for Indigenous Theatre where she worked on Muriel Miguel’s A Series of Savage Events, Alanis King’s Gegwah, and with playwright Tara Beagan developing her semi-autobiographical play. Heather hopes that her Mohawk Girls character, Caitlin, inspires young women to not only love themselves and understand their true worth, but also adopt a positive body image and help redefine society’s expectations of beauty.

Maika Harper Anna Maika Harper is an Inuit actress born in Frobisher Bay, Northwest Territories (currently known as Iqaluit, ). She moved away from home at the age of 14 and has continued to travel the world ever since. Maika studied Classical Acting in the BFA program at the University of Windsor and Acting for Film and Television under David Rotenberg at the Professional Actor’s Lab in Toronto. Her theater work includes Miss Adelaide in Guys and Dolls (Albert College) and Lucille Poncelet in Dead Man Walking (University of Windsor). Maika’s foray into television came when she was cast in the original pilot for Mohawk Girls in 2010. A natural on-camera, Maika reprised her role when the series was greenlit in 2013.

Rachelle White Wind Vicky Rachelle White Wind is from the Ojibwe/Cree Nation and was adopted and raised in a small French community on the outskirts of Winnipeg, Manitoba. She is a graduate of the Centre for Indigenous Theatre and was also a member of the prestigious Ford Modeling Agency, walking the catwalk three years in a row at Toronto’s Fashion Week. Completely bilingual, she got her start on the Québécois show Histoire Max III. Since then, Rachelle has gone from hosting APTN’s Digital Nation to creating complex characters in film and television productions such as XIII, Kissed by Lightning, Elijah, and . Rachelle is also the host and co- creator of Dream Big, a youth documentary series on APTN.

Kyle Nobess Thunder Kyle Nobess was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba where he found his passion for acting at an early age. Following graduation he went on to pursue his acting career and attended film classes around the city. He landed his first major role on APTN'S hit show Cashing In and has gone on to have great success in acting with various projects. Kyle is also becoming a well-known personality, having co-hosted the 2015 Indspire Awards alongside Cardinal, which was televised live across Canada. Kyle has always wanted to write his family’s story as a Feature film, and after working with Rebecca Gibson on the web series WindCity, they teamed up to create Vulnerable Persons. Kyle has a passion for spreading his inspirational message of empowerment through film in the Nu-Media workshops he teaches in communities across Canada.

He is a traditional singer and a Northern traditional dancer. Recent credits include Inland directed by Oscar nominated Deepa Mehta; two leading roles (twins) in the series Helix; Brendan Fraser’s thriller Split Decision; Heritage Minute; the independent feature film Moonhair; Time Traveler for APTN; a recurring role on Hemlock Grove; a principal on Haven; and Triptych for Bravo! A graduate of York University’s Acting Conservatory and an Associate Artist of Red Sky Theatre Company, Meegwun recently toured across North America in Red Sky’s production The Great Mountain, for which he was nominated for a Dora Mavor Moore Award. He also played Burgundy in as part of an all-aboriginal cast for the National Arts Centre in .

Alain Chanoine Leon

Alain was born in Montreal and spent his early life in Haiti. He returned to Canada with his family and began acting with his high school theatre company. In 2002 Alain gave up a career in law enforcement and made the move to Vancouver to pursue his acting career fulltime. Alain’s television credits include Dead Like Me, Smallville, Battlestar Gallactica, , Being Human and Rookie Blue. He also appeared in feature films such as The Art of War II with Wesley Snipes, The Five People You Meet in Heaven with Jon Voight, and Immortals with Mickey Rourke and Henry Caville. Alain was the lead in the movies Shred and Shred II with Tom Green, and recently starred in the action comedy Evil Feed. Alain and his fiancée Audrey appeared as contestants on the reality show The Amazing Race Canada. Alain also works as a stunt performer; he is a black belt in Karate, a world- class martial artist and a two-time Canadian Karate Champion. Alain is currently working as an actor on Suicide Squad, a DC comics super movie with Will Smith.

Glen Gould is an actor/director/musician of Mi’kmaq and Italian descent from Unama’ki’k (Cape Breton Island), Nova Scotia. Some notable television appearances include: North of 60, First Wave, So Weird, Dark Angel, The Relic Hunter, , The 4400, with recurring roles on DaVinci’s Inquest, DaVinci’s City Hall, and Diamonds. He can also be seen on APTN’s Cashing In as rancher John Eagle. His most recent projects include Murdoch Mysteries, Blackstone and Klondike. Glen recently starred in the feature film Rhymes For Young Ghouls by Jeff Barnaby and in the feature film Charlie Zone, which won him the prestigious David Renton Award for Outstanding Performance by an Actor at the Atlantic Film Festival in 2011. Glen has appeared in such films as: Louis LaMour’s Crossfire Trail, Lola, Yellowknife, the BBC docu-drama Monsters We Met, The Reawakening (which earned him a nomination for Best Supporting Male in a Feature Film at the 2004 American Indian Film Festival in San Francisco), the CTV movies One Dead Indian and Elijah, and the feature film Older Than America. Glen has voiced many series, documentaries and animated projects such as the award winning animated series Yvon of The Yukon, has provided voices on Mary-Kate & Ashley, Stargate Infinity, Justin Time and By The Rapids. He is currently recording his debut CD.

Ashley Michaels Auntie Velma

Ashley was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and is from the Métis Nation. She first caught the acting bug when she appeared in the theatrical production Lily Alta in Calgary. She was selected to appear in NBC’S Four Directions Showcase in New York City. While there, she performed in the play The Baby Blues. After moving to Vancouver, Ashley pursued her acting career in earnest. Incredibly versatile, she has appeared in Da Vinci’s City Hall as a prostitute, Voices of the Fraser as a 1700’s Native worker, Edna Brown as a school superintendent, Elsewhere as a grieving mother, Edison and Leo as a warrior, Snare representing one of the missing women on the Highway of Tears, Tornado Valley as an Aboriginal housekeeper, and most recently in Strange Empire as a 1800’s Native woman.

Kawennahere Devery Jacobs is a young Native American/Mohawk actress. Her passion for acting began at an early age. At age 7 she joined the Turtle Island Theatre Company and starred in productions for over 10 years. Her professional career started at 13 years old with a principal role in Stephen King’s The Dead Zone and South of the Moon directed by Antonia DiVerdis. For the following years she had various roles here and there. In 2012, she was cast as Nourhan, a supporting role, in Exploding Sun directed by Michael Robison. Then out of a nation-wide search, Devery booked the lead role of Aila, in Rhymes for Young Ghouls, directed by Jeff Barnaby and was nominated for Best Actress at the 2013. Devery carried the film and was required to portray an exceedingly complex character. Devery is in her third season as Lollipop in Mohawk Girls.

Tantoo Cardinal Zoe’s Mom

Tantoo Cardinal is a Member of the Order of Canada, recognizing her contributions to the growth and development of Aboriginal performing arts in Canada. Tantoo has appeared in numerous plays, television programs, and films, including Legends of the Fall, Dances With Wolves, Black Robe, Loyalties, Luna, Spirit of the Whale, Unnatural & Accidental, Marie- Anne, Sioux City, Silent Tongue and Mother’s & Daughter’s. Her stirring performance in Loyalties earned her a Genie nomination, American Indian Film Festival Best Actress Award, the People’s choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival, plus Best Actress Awards at International Film Festivals in Zimbabwe and Portugal. Her Impressive television credits include recurring roles on the series: Longmire, Strange Empire, Blackstone, Arctic Air, The Guard, North of 60, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, The Lightening Field, Street Legal, The Campbell’s, Gunsmoke, Tom Stone, Myth Quest, Lonesome Dove and Renegade Press.com. MOW’s include The Englishman’s Boy, Dreamkeeper and the PBS documentary Nobody’s Girls. Back to back feature films Shouting Secrets, Eden, Maina and Chasing Shakespeare were followed by Tantoo playing the role of Regan in the production of King Lear at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa followed by a production of The Rez Sister’s at the Belfry Theatre.

Allyson is a Métis actress currently residing in the Toronto, Canada. Originally from , , Allyson has worked with diverse theatre companies since the age of 15. She moved to Toronto to study at the Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts (RAPA), where she received the Triple Threat Award in her graduating year. Allyson has had the opportunity to work with theatre greats such as Dinah Christie (Smile Theatre), Anne Allan (Charlottetown Festival), and Bob Baker (Citadel Theatre), performing roles such as Anne Shirley (Anne of Green Gables The Musical), Lydia Bennet (Pride and Prejudice) and Nuna - a role she originated in The Great Mountain for the renowned Red Sky Theatre. Allyson can be seen in various national television commercials, as well as television shows such as Degrassi: The Next Generation and Apollo’s Pad and Rogue. Most recently, Allyson appeared in the award winning web series Teenagers and new film Hacker.

Kevin Loring Trumpet

Actor, Playwright and Artistic Director of the Savage Society, Kevin is N'lakap'amux from the Lytton First Nation in British Columbia. He is a graduate of the acclaimed professional theatre training program Studio 58, and Full Circle First Nations Performance Ensemble Training Program. He was recently awarded The Distinguished Alumni Award from Thompson Rivers University. In 2009 Kevin won the Governor Generals Literary Award for his first published play Where the Blood Mixes, which deals with the intergenerational effects of the Indian Residential School System. He co-wrote, co-hosted and co-produced the award winning documentary, Canyon War: the Untold Story, which chronicles the 1858 Fraser Canyon War between the N'lakap'amux and the Gold Seekers in the opening months of the Fraser River Gold Rush. Kevin was an ensemble member of the National Arts Centre English Theatre Acting Company and was a Playwright in Residence there in 2010. Favourite stage roles include Norval Morriseau in the World Premiere of Copper Thunderbird by Marie Clements, Jamie Paul in the 50th anniversary production of George Ryga's seminal Canadian play, The Ecstasy of Rita Joe, and Edmond in an all-Aboriginal production of King Lear at the National Arts Centre. He is also the artistic director of Savage Society, a non-profit theatre company dedicated to telling aboriginal stories.

Hailing from a small town in British Columbia, Saulteaux actor and singer/songwriter Jayli Wolf (best known as part of the electronic music duo “Once A Tree”) has been residing in Toronto for the past two years. Since moving to the city she has been pursuing her dreams full time. Recently, Jayli wrapped a lead role in a theatre production entitled My Hundred Years of Solitude, and can be seen on TV shows like Single Ladies, Mohawk Girls, and Urban Native Girl TV. On the music front, you can find her performing her music on shows like MTV, Much Music, Hit The Floor, The Guilt Free Zone, First Tracks, and Urban Native Girl TV. She has released her first EP entitled Thousand Lives under her duo project Once A Tree, with her debut video premiering on Billboard.

Jimmy Blais Watio

Jimmy Blais is of Plains Cree and French heritage. Born and raised in Montreal, he attended the Theatre Performance program at Concordia University and has been performing since 2005. In 2009, He traveled Eastern Canada performing over 220 shows for youth across Quebec, Ontario and the Maritimes. He has since performed in over 20 plays across Montreal. His latest theatre credits include: playing Ska'ana and Na'ha'itk in The Nisei and The Narnucks and The Parking Lot Dude at the Centaur's 2014 edition of Urban Tales. Jimmy is a founding member of Montreal's hottest new theatre company PlayShed, assistant directing their Inaugural production Cock at the M.A.I. in February 2016. A writer and director, Jimmy won Best Film in the 2014 ACTRA short film festival for Café de Paris. The Film was also an official selection of the 2015 L.A. Comedy Fest. On top of all that, Jimmy is also a visiting artist/associate teacher for the theatre department at Concordia University as well as an acting teacher at Geordie Theatre School.

Kyle is most recognized from his portrayal of Rick Geddes in the YTV series 15/Love, but has had recurring roles on CW’s Reaper, SYFY's Being Human and the Muse mini-series, The Fixer, starring Grey's Anatomy's Eric Dane. Kyle has lent his voice to numerous productions and also works behind the scenes in both sound editing and mixing for Ubisoft.

Shawn Youngchief Ohserase Shawn Youngchief is a Métis actor based in Montreal, Originally from Newmarket, Ontario, Shawn began acting in high school and annual summer performances of Shakespeare in the park. He attended York University where he majored in Theatre, before making the move to Quebec to continue his education at Concordia University. Though Shawn has found recent success with principal roles on television shows like The Lottery, 19-2, and The Art of More, most of his acting career has been in voice over work. With his unique baritone timbre and vast range of character voices, Shawn has quickly made a name for himself voicing many of the characters on the animated TV series The Deerskins, currently running on APTN. Shawn has also lent his voice to the independent video games Tee-Pee Toc, and After. In addition to his extensive voice work for The Deerskins, Shawn has also written and directed several episodes throughout its first two seasons. Shawn is currently writing his own web series Sidekicks, and voices the Storyteller in Stories, a series of animated shorts airing on APTN later this fall.

Lawrence Bayne enjoys a varied and busy life in the arts that encompasses stage, screen, & voice, as well as writing music and lyrics, and singing for his band, Simple Damned Device. Of Cree, Icelandic, and Scottish extraction, Lawrence claims his is the result of ‘some very weird goings-on near The Bering Strait’.

Jeffrey Wetsch James

No matter the medium, acting has been Jeffrey’s focus since he was five and has dedicated the last couple years to building and growing his experience in film and television. Jeffery can be seen performing in shows such as Republic of Doyle, Bomb Girls, Defiance, Reign, An Officer and a Murderer, , Rookie Blue, and Murdoch Mysteries. Coming from a classical theater background, Jeffrey began with his education at the prestigious National Theater School of Canada, which landed him a spot at the Stratford festival for six seasons, playing numerous leads during his time there. He continued his pursuit of performing into many of Canada’s small and larger theaters such as Mirvish, The Grand, The Drayton Festival, The Globe, Light House theater, PasseMuraille, and YPT.

Jamie Lee Ianonwiiostha Myiow is a Turtle Clan woman of the Mohawk Nation. She was born and raised in Kahnawake, where she resides today with her two children. As a strong Mohawk mother, Jamie Lee’s priority is to pass on her culture, traditions and language to her children. Jamie Lee has worked as a Native artisan and Mohawk immersion teacher. A natural in front of the camera, Jamie Lee is studying under Suzanna LeNir to hone her craft.

Erland Campbell Zoe’s Dad

Erland is a singer-songwriter, professional ballroom dancer, flamenco & tango dancer, stunt performer, an Internet radio DJ, and all-around entertainer. He played a Mohawk negotiator in Indian Summer: The Oka Crisis, battled the Spartans in 300, danced in Get Smart; played a cop in Cashing In, a detective in Fatal Vows, and a native visionary in Albert Nerenberg’s film, Extreme News, where he performed his owns stunts. He studied acting at The Montreal School of Performing Arts and The National Film Acting School. He also taught ballroom dancing for several years where he performed dance shows in hotels, clubs, film and television. His music has been played on CBC Radio in Montreal and on CBC Radio North throughout Quebec, and is currently recording his music with Jimmy Ayoub, the original drummer from Mahogany Rush.
