    The Salute to Women Behind the Wheel Celebrates 5 Years!

    The Salute to Women Behind the Wheel celebrates 5 years! Five years ago the Women In Trucking Association kicked off the first annual “Salute to Women Behind the Wheel.” The goal then, which continues now, was to honor the women who travel the highways as a career. Whether she drives an 18-wheeler or a bus full of children (or tourists), the reason for the Salute is to honor the women who have professional licenses and earn a living while driving. On Saturday, March 29 at 11 am, the celebration will begin in rooms C201-204 (South Wing) at the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville. Drivers and their families, as well as members of Women In Trucking Association, will have the opportunity to meet with event sponsors, be entertained by Terry Wooley, and enjoy a special birthday cake to celebrate our Salute’s 5th year. The event will also include WIT’s signature chocolate fountain! Attendees can register for the Salute at the WIT booth #40557 in the North Wing Lobby at the show on Thursday or Friday, or outside rooms C201-204 in the South Wing on Saturday. This year’s speaker is Rebecca Brewster, President and COO of the American Transportation Research Institute, who is also the 2013 recipient of the “Influential Woman in Trucking” award sponsored by Navistar. She will be riding to Louisville from Atlanta as a passenger in tractor-trailers driven by our members, Stephanie Klang of Con-way Truckload and Monica Abdul-Rashid of Schneider. She will stop at Nashville TA/Petro along the way and have lunch with her drivers before heading to the Mid- America Trucking Show.

    FOOT TRAFFIC REPORT FOR THE FUEL & CONVENIENCE STORE INDUSTRY Q1 2017 A NEW ERA FOR THE CONVENIENCE STORE As the convenience store industry adapts to meet customer needs and grow market share, location intelligence is becoming increasingly critical to understanding consumer habits and behaviors. GasBuddy and Cuebiq teamed up in the first quarter of 2017 to issue the first foot traffic report for the fuel and convenience store industry. Highlights: GasBuddy and Cuebiq examined 23.5 million consumer trips to the pumps and convenience stores between January 1 and March 31. In Q1, more than half of GasBuddies visited locations within six miles of their homes or places of employment, giving retailers the opportunity to leverage their greatest resource—knowing their customer base—to localize and personalize their product selection. Weekdays between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. were highly-trafficked hours in Q1. Convenience stores are poised to lure business away from QSRs and grocery stores now that customers can eat quality meals at the same place and time they choose to fill up their tanks. With filling a gas tank clocking in at an efficient 2-3 minutes, the 73% of GasBuddies who spent more than five minutes at locations in Q1 demonstrated that consumers are likely willing to spend some time in store before or after visiting the pumps. Launched by Truckers Against Trafficking in 2014, the Freedom Drivers Project is a magnetic, contextual and strategic tool in fighting human trafficking. 2 ABOUT THIS REPORT Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT) exists to educate, equip, empower and mobilize members of the trucking, bus and energy industries. The Freedom Drivers Project (FDP), our unique mobile museum, accomplishes all four actions at each event it attends, through the volunteers and TAT staff that haul it and work it, the TAT materials provided those who tour it at every stop it makes, the inspirational and education videos it plays, the survivor artifacts it displays and the suggestions it provides for becoming involved in the fight against human trafficking.
