Shoe- maker managed the Loons from 2011-2012. He is the sixth Loons manager in the past six seasons. Shoe- maker played second base in the Dodgers minor league system from 1977-1980. He made it to Triple-A Albuquerque in 1980 before retiring from playing baseball to become the hitting coach with the Vero Beach Dodgers the following year. The first managerial opportunity accepted by Shoemaker was to take over for Vero Beach in 1987. He finished 62-76 that season. Shoemaker took a short break from his managerial du- ties in 2009-2010, but remained in the Dodgers organization as the Camelback Ranch-Glendale Coordina- tor of Instruction. He made his first stint with the Loons from 2011-2012, posting a 139-140 overall record. The 61-year-old was born in Chillicothe, Ohio and graduated from Waverly High School. In college at Miami University, Shoemaker shot 10-of-15 from the field for 20 points against Marquette in the 1978 NCAA Tournament. He added four rebounds and six assist in the First Round victory. Shoemaker was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 26th round of the 1974 Amateur Draft, but turned down the opportunity to attend Miami University in Ohio. In the 1977 Amateur Draft, the left-handed hitting infielder was selected in the 35th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Chicago Bulls drafted Shoemaker in the 6th round of the 1978 NBA Draft after the 6-foot-2 guard averaged 10.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 4.3 assists for Miami in his senior 1977-78 season. 19 Bobby Cuellar Bobby Cuellar begins his second stint with the Loons as the pitching coach in his fourth season with the Dodgers organization. Cuellar’s first season with the Loons was in 2016. Since joining the Dodgers organi- zation in 2015, Cuellar also spent time with Ogden in 2015 and 2017. Prior to making his debut as a minor league coach in 1983, Cuellar earned a brief stint in the MLB with the Texas Rangers in 1977. He pitched in four games, allowing four hits, two walks, one home run and one earned run against 24 batters faced. His only home run allowed was to three-time All-Star Dave Kingman. Cuellar struck out three hitters in 6.2 innings pitched for the Rangers. Cuellar, who is bilingual in Spanish and English, spent time in Texas, Cleve- land and Seattle’s organization as a right-handed relief pitcher. A native of Alice, Texas and a graduate from the University of Texas, Cuellar has coached at the minor league level as a pitching coach, bullpen coach and manager. He was the manager of the Wausau Timbers from 1986-1987 and the New Britain Rock Cats in 2008. The Timbers went 73-60 in 1986 and 57-83 in 1987, while the Rock Cats were 64-77 during the 2008 season. Cuellar, 65, has taught star pitchers Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson, Carl Pavano and Javier Vázquez, along with instructing Johan Santana on the changeup while working as the pitching coach for the Edmonton Trap- pers. 24 Jair Fernandez Jair Fernandez joins the Dodgers organization as the tenth hitting coach in Loons history. Originally from Cartagena, Colombia, Fernandez played 10 minor league seasons with four organizations: Mariners, Twins, Astros, Cubs.
