Gupta Director Jagran College of Arts, Science & Commerce Kanpur 2018-1Y9aKti Editorial “If you would not be forgotten as soon as you are dead, either write things worth reading or do things worth writing” - Benjamin Franklin. What is life? It isn't nearly long enough. Life is just a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. It is often believed that we are immortal beings- that our spirits live on after we die. But what about here on Earth? Memories fade and people sometimes seem to be forgotten as the generations pass. So, is there any way of being immortal on this earth? Can writing make us immortal? It's true that we can extend the shelf – life of our thoughts for decades, or even centuries, through books. The works of great writers of past are still read and loved and will be read forever. They survive the test of time. Today we can read the 2,700 year old thoughts of Homer and the 400 year old thoughts of Shakespeare. Shakespeare himself wrote about this concept in the last 2 lines of his sonnet 18. In it, he immortalizes his subject, just by writing the poem. His virtual saying “even though you'll eventually die, your memory will still live on through this poem: So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see, So long lives this poem, and this gives life to thee.” This issue of college magazine is dedicated to two legendary writers, poets and above all great humans, our former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee and famous poet Shri Gopal Das Neeraj who will always remain alive in our hearts. Writing is powerful, and it can offer a small piece of immortality here on earth. So write as you live! (Dr. M. P. • The Game Called - FOOTBALL
The Game called - FOOTBALL Football, also called association football or soccer, game in which two teams of 11 players, using any part of their bodies except their hands and arms, try to maneuver the ball into the opposing team’s goal. Football is the world’s most popular ball game in numbers of participants and spectators. Simple in its principal rules and essential equipment, the sport can be played almost anywhere, from official football playing fields (pitches) to gymnasiums, streets, school playgrounds, parks, or beaches. Football’s governing body, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), estimated that at the turn of the 21st century there were approximately 250 million football players and over 1.3 billion people “interested” in football; in 2010 a combined television audience of more than 26 billion watched football’s premier tournament, the quadrennial month-long World Cup finals. The Origin The contemporary history of the world's favorite game spans more than 100 years. It all began in 1863 in England, when rugby football and association football branched off on their different courses and the Football Association in England was formed - becoming the sport's first governing body. Football in India Football is India's second most popular sport, next to the game of cricket. Kabaddi and field hockey are also popular. Traditionally it has enjoyed popularity in West Bengal, Goa, Kerala, Odisha, and north-eastern India, especially Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. India's current top domestic league, I-League, was formed in 2007 in an attempt to professionalize domestic football and in 2013 the Indian Super League was formed with 8 teams to promote Indian football to the country and world.

After watching the action in Kathmandu, Nepal, I have no doubt that our emerging teams can match the best in Asia. DPR Korea once again proved that they are a force to reckon with in this segment of emerging countries but the other teams made sure that it was not smooth going for the Koreans. The skills and determination displayed by all the eight teams in this competition are praiseworthy. In our bid to develop and improve the game from the technical perspective, AFC has undertaken a technical analysis of the tournament through a panel of technical experts.
