In the basilica, the LED lighting system has been tested in many areas, and everyone involved is really pleased with the results. Tests show that the illumination level of the domes is 10 times brighter than before. The new indirect lighting system also eliminates unsightly drop shadows on the circular inscription, which is carved into the wall below the cornices of the basilica. “At St. Peter’s Basilica, we are able to demonstrate our lighting expertise once again,” says Olaf Berlien, CEO of OSRAM Licht AG. “A total of 700 custom-made luminaires with more than 100,000 powerful light-emitting diodes from Regensburg brilliantly illuminate this tremendous building in a way never seen before.     O RA CO PE TION M TI Munich Security Index 2021 Appendix to the Munich Security Report 2021 With Additional Survey Results and Analysis A joint project with MUNICH SECURITY INDEX 2 MUNICH SECURITY INDEX Summary How do states with decisive influence in the global realm view each other and core global risks? By presenting ex- clusive data on perceptions of risk that pervade the socie- ties of G7 and BRICS countries, our new Munich Security Index provides unique insights into the scope for inter- state cooperation on shared global threats as well as into the patters of cooperation and competition that are shaped by how societies perceive each other. In an era defined by geopolitical competition and mounting global threats that can only be addressed in cooperation, it is important to assess and com- pare how people in different parts of the world view some of the most critical global security risks. To this end, the MSC and Kekst CNC together have built a new dataset on global risk perceptions: the Munich Security Index. Based on a survey conducted among 12,000 people globally, it provides an in-depth view of how G7 and BRICS nations view risk in 2021. The Munich Security Index shows that global risk perceptions are highly diverse, suggesting that efforts to jointly tackle the most serious threats to humanity will not face an easy environment. The overall picture painted by the index is one of fragmentation in the West and of parochial risk percep- tions elsewhere in the world. If there is something akin to a global consensus on risk, it revolves around climate and the environment.
