In the basilica, the LED lighting system has been tested in many areas, and everyone involved is really pleased with the results. Tests show that the illumination level of the domes is 10 times brighter than before. The new indirect lighting system also eliminates unsightly drop shadows on the circular inscription, which is carved into the wall below the cornices of the basilica. “At St. Peter’s Basilica, we are able to demonstrate our lighting expertise once again,” says Olaf Berlien, CEO of OSRAM Licht AG. “A total of 700 custom-made luminaires with more than 100,000 powerful light-emitting diodes from Regensburg brilliantly illuminate this tremendous building in a way never seen before.     MIROSLAV TICHÝ Kyjov, Moravia, Czech Republic. 1926-2011 Miroslav Tichy was born in 1926 in what is today the Czech Republic. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, he withdrew to his native city of Kyjov. At the end of the 1950’s, he gave up painting and embarked on personal journey. At the end of the 1960’s, he began taking photographs, particularly of local women, using handmade cameras he had made himself. He later added to the photos with a pencil and placed them in handmade frames, creating a style somewhere between photography and drawing. The result is a body of work with formal qualities that surprises due to its unusual nature, ignoring the rules of conventional photography. His images form an extensive oeuvre with a poetic vision of female beauty. Ivorypress inaugurated Space I with an exhibition of Tichy’s work in 2009. It was his first exhibition in Spain. Now Railroad Development Corporation from Pittsburgh wants to run it. 8 October 2014, by Kerstin Schwenningen, Berlin Deutsche Bahn, the national German railway, plans to eliminate motorail trains from their program because they are not economical. There is one exception: the so-called Sylt- Shuttle, which DB would like to continue even after 2017. But it is precisely this connection that lures private railway companies like RDC to Germany. The auto train should operate daily from 4:00 AM to 11:00 PM every 30 minutes. At the moment the half hour cycle only applies at peak rush-hour times, otherwise the shuttle leaves every 60 or 90 minutes. If RDC operates the train to Sylt, the number of departures will increase by about half. The American railway company from Pittsburgh, founded by Posner in 1987, is active in many countries in the world including Germany as the majority shareholder of the Hamburg-Köln- Express GmbH (HKX), which has been competing with Deutsche Bahn since July 2012 on the Hamburg-Cologne route.
