HOLDEN LOCAL VEHICLE PRODUCTION INFORMATION

Overview

The history of dates back to 1856 when it started as a saddlery business in South , making Holden one of the oldest automotive in the world.

Almost 100 years later, Holden ushered in a new era of automotive history when it introduced Australia’s first mass produced , the 48-215, in 1948. Since then, more than 7 million have rolled off Holden production lines.

Today Holden is one of only seven fully-integrated global operations that designs, builds and sells vehicles for Australia and the world.

Holden’s innovative engineering and design centres operate within its headquarters in Port , with an manufacturing plant on-site and vehicle manufacturing operations in , . Holden employs around 4,600 people and is also represented by more than 300 dealerships around the country.

Holden Vehicle Operations

x Located Philip Highway, Elizabeth, South Australia

x From May 2012, Holden Vehicle Operations (HVO) produce up to 400 vehicles per assembly shift, five days a week

x Holden currently employs around 2,400 people at its Elizabeth Vehicle Operations

x In 2010 HVO produced 66,764 vehicles and exported 7817 vehicles to customers in New Zealand, Brazil, the Middle East, South , the United States and Canada

x In 2011, Holden produced approximately 90,000 units* and exported 12,000 cars to its international customers. *Official production figures will be released with Holden’s 2011 financial results in April

x Holden sold 74,434 locally-made cars in Australia last year, which is approximately 60 per cent of Holden’s total 2011 sales volume.

x In addition to the Commodore vehicle body, Holden also produces around 343 body panels onsite at the Press Shop which are later welded into the body

x Not only is Cruze now assembled at Holden, the Cruze roof, body sides, closures, fascias and majority of interior plastics are also manufactured onsite in the Plastics Plant

x Cruze bodies are assembled in the renovated South Body Shop with 22 new robots and 48 refurbished robots installed in the fully-functioning layered build line

x Holden Vehicle Operations added 1,800 new parts to the manufacturing process for the Cruze

x Holden made a number of changes at its vehicle operations to accommodate the new Commodore dedicated LPG range, including unique body panels, changes to the facia assemblies moulded in the Plastics Plant and a completely new fuel system in General Assembly

x HVO is one of the most flexible automotive manufacturing facilities in the world producing 45 models across two architectures, six body styles and eight variants, including: short , long wheelbase, sedans, wagons, utility, short wheelbase hatch, short wheelbase sedan, right-hand drive and left-hand drive

Commodore – Australia’s Family Favourite

x The Commodore range is available with two V6 powertrains – a 3.0-litre 190kW SIDI direct injection engine and 3.6-litre 210kW SIDI direct injection engine – and a 6.0- litre 270kW* Generation IV Alloy . *manual

x All Commodore petrol are flex-fuel capable and able to run on bio- ethanol/; a blend of up to 85 per cent ethanol and 15 per cent petrol.

x Holden recently introduced its first dedicated LPG Commodore range, which has been optimised for Australian conditions and engineered for maximum boot space. It boasts best-in-class CO2 and fuel economy

x The was Australia’s best-selling car for a record 15 consecutive years between 1996 and 2010

x In 2011, Holden sold 40,617 Commodore passenger vehicles making it the second Highest-selling vehicle in Australia

x Total combined Commodore passenger vehicle and light commercial utes sales totalled 50,106 units in 2011

x Holden Commodore also accounted for 55.4 per cent of the large car segment last year

x The Holden VE Commodore range was named 2006 Wheels following the year of its launch

Cruze – Australia’s Own Small Car

x Australia’s own small car, the Holden Cruze is available in four models, CD, CDX, SRi and SRi-V, and two body styles, sedan and hatch

x Powertrains available in Holden’s locally-built Cruze include a 1.8-litre petrol, 2.0-litre turbo diesel and 1.4-litre turbo (1.4 iTi)

x The Holden Cruze is the only locally-manufactured small car in Australia and began regular production in March 2011, followed by the Cruze hatch in November

x The 2.0 litre diesel manual Cruze is one of the most fuel-efficient cars made in Australia with fuel economy of 5.6 litres per 100km. This model emits just 147 grams of CO2 per kilometre

x Holden ceased importing the Cruze sedan from Korea to commence local production in March 2011 and sold 33,784 units the same year

x The Holden Cruze was the fifth best seller last year and is the third best-selling car in Australia year-to-date

Holden Exports

x Holden exports peaked in 2005, when Holden exported 60,518 vehicles in one year

x Today, Holden exports have been heavily impacted by the sustained strength of dollar and has adopted a sustainable business strategy to be profitable on domestic sales alone

x However, Holden continues to export a range of Right Hand Drive (RHD) and Left Hand Drive (LHD) models based on the Holden Commodore and Caprice to customers across New Zealand, United States, South Africa and the Middle East

x Holden produces two versions of the Caprice Patrol Vehicle in the North American market. Last year, 880 units of the PPV were sold to law enforcement agencies

x The Middle East is one of Australia’s longest-running export customers, with three versions of the long wheel base Caprice

x Holden also exports a RHD Ute to South Africa

x According to FCAI figures, Australia is one of 13 countries with the capability to design, engineer and build vehicles

x In 2011, 141,939 vehicles sold in the Australian market sold were locally built and Holden models accounted for more than half of this figure
