September 29, 2016 Holland America Line will implement a new smoking policy beginning in January 2017. No smoking of any kind will be permitted on any stateroom verandah. Smoking of cigarettes, cigars and pipes is already not permitted in any stateroom. The new policy has been announced to better align with guest wishes and health concerns. The new smoking policy takes effect on all ships on the following dates (as well as any combination cruise spanning these dates): SHIP NEW SMOKING POLICY BEGINS ms Maasdam January 2, 2017 ms Rotterdam January 2, 2017 ms Volendam January 3, 2017 ms Noordam January 4, 2017 ms Veendam January 4, 2017 ms Zuiderdam January 4, 2017 ms Nieuw Amsterdam January 6, 2017 ms Eurodam January 7, 2017 ms Westerdam January 7, 2017 ms Koningsdam January 8, 2017 ms Zaandam January 10, 2017 ms Oosterdam January 13, 2017 ms Amsterdam April 26, 2017 ms Prinsendam May 6, 2017 For guests who wish to smoke, the designated smoking areas for all ships are as follows unless otherwise noted: Tobacco products (cigarettes, cigars and pipes) Permitted Outdoors • Sea View (Retreat) Bar/Pool on starboard side. On ms Prinsendam, ms Koningsdam and ms Nieuw Statendam, smoking allowed on the port side. Smoking is never on both sides. • Sun Bar on ms Koningsdam and ms Nieuw Statendam. • Sports Deck forward and aft of Crow’s Nest on starboard side on ms Maasdam, ms Veendam, ms Volendam, ms Zaandam, ms Rotterdam and ms Amsterdam, aft of Crow’s Nest starboard side. Permitted Indoors • Oak Room on ms Noordam only. • Designated areas for active slot players in Casinos. ms Oosterdam and ms Eurodam casinos are completely non-smoking, however. Not Permitted: Inside all staterooms/suites. On any stateroom/suite verandahs. E-cigarettes and Vaping devices Permitted: Inside all staterooms/suites. Designated smoking areas listed above. Any guest who smokes inside staterooms or verandahs in violation of our policy will be charged a US$250 cleaning fee per day of violation and will risk being removed from the ship for repeated violations. .

Holland America Line Celebrates a Milestone for Newbuild Nieuw Statendam with Coin Ceremony Celebration at Fincantieri Shipyard December 7, 2017 New 99,500-ton Pinnacle Class ship to launch in November 2018 Seattle, Wash., Dec. 7, 2017 — In anticipation of the upcoming float-out ofms Nieuw Statendam, Holland America Line held the ship's coin ceremony Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Fincantieri's Marghera shipyard in Italy. Following Italian shipbuilding tradition, Anne Marie Bartels, a member of Holland America Line's esteemed President's Club, served as the ship's Madrina and participated in the festivities. During the coin ceremony, observed to bring good fortune, a Dutch guilder was welded to the forward mast of the ship by Bartels; Antonio Quintano, director of the Fincantieri Marghera Shipyard; and Keith Taylor, executive vice president, fleet operations for Holland America Group, followed by speeches and a blessing by the shipyard chaplain. Cyril Tatar, Holland America Group's vice president of newbuilding services, also was in attendance. The Dutch Guilder brings sentiment and history to the newbuild — it is from 1898, the year Holland America Line's firstStatendam came into service. Holland America Line’s ms Oosterdam Continues Company’s Streak with a Perfect Score of 100 on United States Public Health Inspection March 9, 2017 Score follows Eurodam's recent record-making 11th perfect 100 Seattle, Wash., March 9, 2017 — Holland America Line's ms Oosterdam joins sister-ship ms Eurodam this year by earning a perfect score of 100 on a routine United States Public Health (USPH) inspection conducted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Oosterdam's unannounced USPH inspection was held March 3, 2017, during a turnaround at Tampa, Florida, at the start of a seven-day Caribbean cruise. The perfect score follows on the heels of sister ship ms Eurodam achieving its 11th perfect score in January, making cruise industry history with the most consecutive 100s. "As a company we strive for the highest standards in all areas of operation across the fleet, and our recent public health inspections are a testament to how hard everyone is working to achieve these perfect scores," said Orlando Ashford, president of Holland America Line. "Congratulations to everyone onboard Oosterdam and all of our employees who worked endlessly to make it happen once again."
