THE VIRGIN MONEY LONDON MARATHON (RESTRICTION OF TRAFFIC IN CONNECTION WITH CERTAIN EVENTS) ORDER 2014

Transport for London after consulting the Commissioner of Police for the City of London, the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, the Councils of the London Boroughs of Lambeth, Lewisham, Southwark, and Tower Hamlets, the Royal Borough of Greenwich, the and the Common Council of the City of London, the Commission for New Towns and Canary Wharf Management Limited, and in exercise of powers conferred by section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984a and of all other enabling powers, hereby makes the following Order:-

1. Commencement and citation

This Order may be cited as The Virgin Money London Marathon (Restriction of Traffic in Connection with Certain Events) Order 2014, and shall come into force on 12th April 2014.

2. Except as provided in article 7 below, no person shall enter or proceed or cause or permit any vehicle to enter or proceed in any street or length of street specified in Schedule 1 to this Order during the hours specified (or earlier if required by a police constable in uniform) in relation to each street specified in Schedule 1 to this Order and the time when normal traffic operation can be resumed at the direction of a police constable.

3. Whilst this Order continues in force and without prejudice to the validity of anything done or to any liability incurred in respect of any act or omission before the coming into operation of this Order, no person shall cause any vehicle to stop or wait (including waiting for the purpose of delivering or collecting goods or loading or unloading a vehicle) in the streets and lengths of streets specified in Schedule 1 or Schedule 2 to this Order.

4. The Order will also suspend three gated road closures in the Royal Borough of Greenwich in Azof Street, Mauritius Road and Old Road and suspend width restrictions in the London Borough of Southwark on Quebec Way and in the Royal Borough of Greenwich on Charlton and Tunnel Avenue.

5. The Order will also reverse or suspend the one way traffic flow on:

(1) Nevada Street in the Royal Borough of Greenwich allowing vehicles to travel westbound; a 1984 c.27

GLA/2014/0192 1 (2) Fair Street in the London Borough of Southwark to allow traffic to travel eastbound only and then southbound onto Tower Bridge Road;

(3) Savoy Street in the City of Westminster allowing vehicles to travel in both directions.

6. The Bus Lanes on (both directions) and York Road (both directions) will be temporarily suspended between 07:00 hours and 23.59 hours on Sunday 13th April 2014.

7. Nothing in Articles 2 or 3 of this Order, shall apply to:

(1) any vehicle being used for ambulance, fire brigade or police purposes in an emergency or for the purposes of an statutory undertaker (as defined in the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991a) in an emergency if the observance of those provisions would hinder the use of the vehicle;

(2) any person or vehicle being used in connection with the event for which this Order is necessary; and

(3) anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform, or a person authorised by Transport for London.

8. Additional streets and lengths of streets may also be closed at the direction of a police constable in uniform, to facilitate alternative routes.

9. This Order shall continue in operation for two days or until normal traffic operation can be resumed at the direction of a police constable whichever is the sooner.

10. This Order is made because Transport for London is satisfied that traffic on the length of streets specified in Schedules 1 and 2 below should be restricted to enable the social event consisting of The Virgin Money London Marathon to take place.
