MESSAGE FROM SHERIFF HERNANDEZ

With the official start of summer this month, I think this issue is a great opportunity for me to share some fun happenings with you. This month, we held our first ever Junior Deputy Summer Camp for children ages 11-13 (Session I). Session II for ages 8-10 takes place in August and is already booked! I’m proud of our Community Outreach team, who put together this opportunity for kids to experience a weeklong camp, full of educational experiences and fun. This past week, kiddos learned what deputies do to include K-9, Lake Patrol, Motors, Highway Enforcement, Estray and much more. Our fellow first responders at the , Star Flight and the TX Department of Public Safety joined in and gave tours and helicopter demos. We learned a lot from this experience and look forward to offering the opportunity to more kids next summer. You’ll find additional information about the camp in this edition. I’m also looking forward to June 30th, but admittedly, with more than a little trepidation! It’s our annual Family Day - full of laughter, good food and lots of fun games. This year, as a fund raiser for our Field Training Officer (FTO) programs, our FTOs are offering employees the opportunity to dunk their chain of command in a dunking booth. For my sake, I certainly hope they don’t throw a softball at a target with as much skill and accuracy as they show in other aspects of their jobs! Since the event takes place after our June Newsletter distribution date, you’ll have to check back in our July edition for photos. I hope you all enjoy a safe and fun summer!
