Performance criteria
You must be able to: P1 follow instructions for cutting and piercing components P2 identify and select the correct saw blades P3 cut shapes for jewellery or silverware using a range of cutting tools P4 cut out a range of shapes using a piercing saw frame with the appropriate saw blade P5 complete the work to the given specification

Knowledge and understanding
You need to know and K1 the specific safety precautions to be taken when using sheet metal, understand: cutting and piercing tools and equipment K2 the methods of marking out, drilling for piercing simple shapes and patterns K3 how to check that equipment is in a usable condition K4 how to cut sheet materials using appropriate cutting equipment K5 the type of saw and blade to be used for different materials K6 the importance of keeping the work area safe, tidy to retain valuable waste (lemel) K7 how to check that the piercing and cutting is accurate

Scope/range You are required to: related to perfomance 1. Follow two of the following types of instructions related to cutting and criteria piercing: 1.1. Verbal 1.2. Written 1.3. Drawing
2. Use all of the following with the appropriate saw blade 2.1. Saw frame 2.2. Junior hacksaw 2.3. Standard hacksaw
3. Use at least 2 of the following cutting tools: 3.1. Hand shears 3.2. Guillotine 3.3. Bench shears
4. Cut out all of the following shapes using a piercing saw frame using the appropriate saw blade: 4.1. Straight lines 4.2. Spiral 4.3. Round hole 4.4. Square hole 4.5. Symmetrical design fretwork
