www.davis-bowring.co.uk Welcome to RUSKIN HOUSE £725,000 Thurland Castle, Tunstall, LA6 2QR

Ever fancied living in a moated castle but don’t want to forsake your modern luxuries? Never fear! Ruskin House offers 21st Century living in historical surroundings. Here’s list of our favourite things to tempt you to consider castle living… Thurland Castle has had a rich and dramatic past. With earlier origins, Sir Thomas De Tunstall was granted a Royal Licence to crenulate his manor house in 1404 which then officially became Thurland Castle. In 2000 the property was purchased by a residential development company who skilfully and painstakingly divided the property into 12 individual houses and apartments. Ruskin House is named after John Ruskin (1819-1900 English writer, art critic and performer), a dominant influence on taste among intellectuals of the Victorian period and a regular visitor to Thurland Castle. Great for everyday and extra special for entertaining, set over two floors with a gross internal area of 2202 sq ft (204.6 sq m) there is a particularly sociable flow of rooms on the ground floor, each one enhanced by decorative glazing across the front of the property with a view out to the landscaped courtyard. Cooking will never be a chore in the stylish breakfast kitchen well appointed with SieMatic units with granite worktops and integrated appliances. The kitchen opens onto a light and sunny breakfast area with French doors onto the courtyard. The morning room off the dining room also has doors out to the courtyard. The spacious drawing room has a feature leaded and stained window (which allows coloured light to flood in) and doors out to the moatside garden. There’s also a library and office leading off the drawing room. Rooms for every occasion! Sleep easy with a choice of three double bedrooms - the sumptuous master bedroom is beautifully fitted with bespoke furniture and there are three well-appointed bath/shower rooms. Easy to maintain and a pleasure to enjoy - the private garden to the front includes a lawn, fountain and a flagged terrace providing a secluded area which enjoys all day sun. The garden is open to the general courtyard and provides an impressive approach to Ruskin House. To the rear there is a private flagged terrace bordering the moat. There are also 10 acres of shared grounds to enjoy which are maintained by the castle gardeners and a recently resurfaced hard court tennis court. Garage and parking - there is a double garage, allocated private parking by the entrance to The Stables as well as shared visitor parking.
