From the Planning Meeting

A number of ideas came up at the planning meeting on Saturday, 5 November 2016, including (but not limited to):

 Tour of Emory Motorsports in North Hollywood, probably in February to see—among other things—the 356SL that took Porsche’s 1st class win at Le Mans in 19512  The Progressive Dinner will be back—probably Spring of 2017.  Taco Truck Tour—probably late Spring of 2017.  After Breakfast Meeting Tour to Mt. Baldy (date TBD)  A breakfast trip up Angeles Crest Highway to Newcomb’s Ranch instead of Mimi’s (date TBD)  Big Bear-Oak Glen, probably 23 September 2016  Overnight Tour to Monterey, possibly 30 September-1 October 2017 to go through Cholame on the anniversary of James Dean’s crash.  [Maybe] Tour of Angeles Crest Highway to Wrightwood (date and details TBD).

Wednesday, 7 December 2016, SGVR Board Meeting

Mid-Engined 911 RSR

From sportscar365.com:

Porsche unveiled its next-generation 911 RSR, which will compete in both the FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship next year at the LA Auto Show. The all- new GTE-spec contender features a radical mid-engined design, powered by a four-liter flat-six engine mounted in front of the rear axle. The boxer engine is estimated to produce 510 horsepower, depending on the size of the air restrictor.

Also from sportscar365.com:

Head of Porsche Motorsport Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser has revealed that its new mid-engined Porsche 911 RSR is within the 2017 GTE rules, with no waivers granted despite the engine relocation. “The actual rules in GTE allow to optimize the position of the engine,” Walliser told Sportscar365. “No production car with this layout is planned and no waiver was granted.”

While the turbocharged Fords and dominated this year’s , the decision to remain with a normally aspirated engine was made well before that, according to Walliser. Walliser doesn’t see it as a disadvantage, thanks to variable boost levels for turbocharged engines implemented by the FIA, ACO and IMSA that now provides a near-identical power curve for both normally aspirated and turbocharged engines. “The rules are written in a way that gives turbos and normally aspirated engines the same power and torque behavior,” he said.

Walliser confirmed only two of the new 911 RSRs will be entered in the WeatherTech Championship season opener, both run by the CORE autosport-operated Porsche North America squad.
