Our team from the Foundation quickly packed and prepared to leave for the UN's climate conference COP23 in Bonn, Germany. This will mark the 11th consecutive year of Delta Foundation's participation in the climate change conference. Over the years, Delta was always there to witness and support the international efforts in climate change. I have been asked the same question by people from various companies: How did Delta begin to get involved in the climate change conference? As a matter of fact, "energy-saving" has always been the core business of Delta. When the foundation aligned itself with this task, carbon emission reduction is no longer just our CSR, but our corporate mission. In the past two years, the global tour of the "Delta Green Building Exhibition" has shown the world our energy-saving technologies. In EcoMobility World Festival & Congress 2017 at Kaohsiung, Delta has attracted the attention from the Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI) and they invited Delta to give a speech at their COP23 side event. In this event, Delta shared with the international community how the company helps facilitate sustainable cities. This issue's "Special Report" will share the first-hand observation and reports with our readers. In "About DSM", we are happy to share successful stories from IABG and DRC. Automatic guided vehicles (AGV) running around in the factory to supply products and materials is now a reality. IABG's "Smart AGV Distribution Solution" helped customers to upgrade to smart logistics management, which reduces manpower and costs, and collects data through the interconnect network system. It is one giant step towards smart factories. DRC introduced t "Intelligent Production Optimization Solution," which prevents problems in manufacturing with two main functions: "correlation analysis" and "key factors analysis". Starting from 2018, this column will cover another business focus - Building Automation. The re-organization in 2017 launched an important stage in Delta's rebranding. The result of "2017 Taiwan's International Brand Value Survey" has just revealed that Delta is selected as one of the top 20 international brands from Taiwan for the 7th consecutive year. Our brand value has reached USD 250 million, an 11% growth from 2016, and we are the only company to have achieved double-digit growth for 5 consecutive years. It’s my great pleasure to share this great honor with all Delta colleagues. This issue will also report Vivitek’s success story from Iceland's Lava Center. The 4K high resolution projector with edge-blending and interactive technologies portrayed the magnificent images from the volcanic eruption. Readers will not want to miss all this and more in "Brand Circle". Beginning next year, to make this Brand News Bi-monthly closer to our readers, the "Delta Green Live" column will open for submission. Welcome to share your low-carbon life with us. Brand Management Office DELTA BRAND NEWS 01 SPECIAL REPORT COP23 Climate Change Conference in Bonn, Germany Delta shares its broad experience in facilitating sustainable cities at COP23 Text by Yvonne Chan / DEF This spring the atmosphere’s carbon dioxide exceeded a concentration of 410 ppm—a new record high for historical climate statistics. The recently published Global Carbon Budget 2017 revealed that the carbon dioxide curve produced by fossil fuels grew 2% this year, reaching 36.8 billion tons, another new high in global carbon emissions. These two new records have dropped a bomb in the global climate community. Facing our earth’s climate crisis, governments throughout the world and international environmental groups are all mobilizing their resources and tactics to combat climate change. However, the private sector can also make a contribution. DELTA BRAND NEWS 02 SPECIAL REPORT Eleven years observing frontline climate negotiations Since the publication of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 1995, a Conference of Parties (COP) has been held every year to discuss measures to fight climate change and global warming—COP23 will be the 23rd convention. With Delta's mission "To provide innovative, clean and energy-efficient solutions for a better tomorrow", representatives of the Delta Foundation attend COP each year, and for 11 consecutive years they have observed the actions and trends of global climate negotiations. During COP21 in Paris, Delta held its Delta Green Building Exhibition at the Grand Palais, showcasing the 21 factory and donated green buildings Delta has built over the past 10 years, and demonstrating Delta's achievements in carbon emissions reduction The Delta Foundation set up an exhibition booth at COP23 to share Delta's carbon emissions experience in buildings and transportation Beginning in 2007, the Delta Foundation has attended the climate conference as a non-governmental body to stay on top of climate and energy topics and global trends. In 2012, the foundation was finally approved as an UNFCCC observer. In 2014 during COP20 in Lima, the Delta Foundation assumed a different responsibility from its previous role as a reporter, and co-hosted a side event with renowned international groups. Delta shared with nearly 200 global officials and expert scholars how it rebuilt the EEWH Diamond certified Namaxia MinQuan Elementary School, in Kaohsiung after Typhoon Morakot. In 2015 at COP21 in Paris, Delta demonstrated the 21 factory and donated green buildings it has constructed over the past 10 years. At our first-ever Delta Green Building Exhibition at the Grand Palais, Delta shared its achievements in carbon emission reduction and green building advocacy. Afterwards, we were invited to the German Pavilion to discuss Taiwan's experience in carbon emissions reduction. Although Taiwan is not a member of the UN, the Delta Foundation aspires to bringing the latest international news to the public. The foundation has long been publishing articles in its "Low-Carbon Living" blog and it is collaborating with the Hsinchu Science Park Radio Station "Sounds of IC" through the "Climate Battle in Taiwan" program. Delta delivers knowledgeable updates on climate change, and offers first-hand information about carbon emissions reduction. This year’s COP23 in Bonn, Germany, Delta Foundation has set up an exhibition booth for one week, from November 13 to 17. Our exhibition is for the international community and showcases Delta’s achievements in green buildings, low-carbon transportation, water resources, environmental education, and others. City representatives and distinguished visitors from Poland, which is the host of COP24, as well as France, Australia, USA, Africa, South Asia, the Middle East, China, Japan, and other regions showed great interest and were deeply impressed with the exhibition.
