Reporting to: Expedition Leader & Head of Operations

Responsible to: Managing Director/CEO Location: Raja Ampat & Bali, West Papua/Indonesia

PRIMARY FUNCTION

To manage all aspects of the diving operations for the marine conservation base camp, including the general maintenance of all diving related equipment, compressors, outboard engines and boats. Provide PADI training for all courses up to , for the volunteer staff, volunteers and local scholar candidates.

GENERAL OUTLINE OF THE ROLE

- Provide all PADI dive training from Open water to Divemaster for all volunteer staff, local staff, volunteers and scholars.

- In conjunction with the Science Team organise/supervise the daily diving and snorkelling activities. - Maintenance of all diving related equipment, including boat, outboard engines and compressors. - Responsible for all aspects of scuba , enforcing when necessary the strict Barefoot Conservation diving standards. - Keep accurate records of all and spares, including making regular stocktakes. - Take part in the Science Training Programme and Community Projects. Be an active part of the surveying team when needed and help with the various on-going Community Projects. MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Teach all PADI diving courses up to divemaster, including EFR to volunteer/local staff, volunteers and scholar candidates. Keeping to deadlines and working under , ensuring accurate student records are kept. When needed, spending more time with local staff/scholars who are not fluent in English.

- Work in conjunction with the Science Team to make sure the daily survey dives are planned, supervised, operate smoothly and go out on-time. - Maintain all the scuba diving related equipment, including the boat, outboard engines and compressor. Enforce a strict maintenance routine for the compressors, including keeping accurate running time records. Making sure unsafe equipment is taken off line until serviced/repaired. When necessary source spare parts

for diving equipment and boat/outboards from the nearest city. - Hold pre dive safety briefings, ensuring all divers are aware of the , and re-enforce the Barefoot

Conservation diving standards. Present a diving safety presentation to all new volunteer staff, volunteers and scholars within 24hours of their arrival. - Provide the Head of Operations with bi-monthly reports, out lining any diving related incidents that have happened in the past 2 weeks. This report must include an accurate stock count of all scuba diving related equipment, highlighting what equipment/spares are off line and/or need replacing. - Participate in the Science Training Programme (STP) and once trained take part in the science survey dives. When necessary taking new volunteers/scholars on science spot dives during the STP. - Help the Community Team with the running of the various on-going Community Projects in the local community. Participate in these community projects, organising and supervising volunteers when necessary.

Contract Duration: 6 month contract (173 days)

Salary: None. This is a voluntary, non paid position Travel Reimbursement Bonus: Up to £500 end of contract travel reimbursment bonus, depending on personal and

company performance during contract term. Accommodation/Food: Basic shared beach bungalow accommodation & food/drinks provided at Raja Ampat. Travel/Visa/Insurance: Travel to the expedition site must be paid for by the candidate. All visa extensions will be paid for by Barefoot Conservation.* Training: Free sceince training * Initial Social Visa fee must be paid for by the volunteer staff member, all extensions after this will be paid for by Barefoot Conservations. ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE Qualifications - Minimum PADI OWSI - Any advanced instructor or other training (PADI or equivalent) Education/Knowledge: - EFR Instructor - Knowledge of conservation

Experience: - Proven experience in certifying - Attended a recognised service students with minimum 20 certs training course e.g Regulator, Compressor, or Outboard motors - Experience of small boat handling, maintenance & servicing outboard - Experience of dive training in

engines (15-60 hbp) remote locations with limited - Experience in servicing all dive resources equipment (regulators, BCDs and - Working with NGO's compressors) - Previous travel and/or diving

- Teaching/diving in currents experience in Indonesia - Technically orientated Skills: - Knowledge of local language - Fluent/Good level of English - Excellent written/oral - Good administrative & time communication & presentation management skills skills
