Our senior footballers did us proud by winning the Ulster Championship and were only piped at the second last hurdle by the Dubs. You will probably find many more teams adopting Donegal’s style of play next time around (no matter what the press or Pat Spillane says) To Jim McGuinness and all involved we say a big thank you and well done. At county level, we had a battle royal in the club championship between Glenswilly and St. Michaels, and we wish Glenswilly all the best in the Ulster Championship. Donegal, hopefully, will be represented at the 2012 Olympics in London by Brendan Boyce from Cratlagh just outside Milford. Brendan has achieved the Qualifying A time for the 50 km. walk and we wish him well in his build up. If any of you have ever been involved in athletics, I am sure you heard of Cranford Athletic Club. Would you believe they are celebrating fifty years in existence this year? Yes the big 50 and one of their founding members Eamon Giles is still at the helm. Some achievement!     JIM MCGUINNESS Performance Consultant to Glasgow Celtic Originally from County Donegal, Jim was only a teenager when he was part of a Donegal squad that claimed the county’s first All-Ireland Senior Football Championship in 1992. Jim was the coach when his club won their first ever Donegal Senior Club Championship title in 2005. He has represented his Province on a number of occasions winning two Railway Cup Medals, and has also represented his country in the International Compromise Rules Series against Australia in 1998, which Ireland won. Topics In 2010 Jim was manager of the Donegal Under-21 Football Team that won the Provincial Championship for the first time in fifteen years and reached the All- Leadership Ireland Final. In July of that year he was appointed Donegal Senior Football Team Motivation Manager. His time with the senior team has been a major success. He has overseen a Donegal team that has won two consecutive Ulster Senior Football Championship titles and guided his native county to win the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final, the county’s first since 1992. Donegal’s victory in 2012 under McGuinness’s management is only Donegal’s second ever All-Ireland Senior Championship win in more than 120 years. McGuinness’ achievements have also been recognised internationally, earning the admiration of, among others, the golfer and Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley and the Glasgow Celtic football manager Neil Lennon. On the 9th of November 2012, the Scottish soccer giants Glasgow Celtic confirmed the appointment of McGuinness as a performance consultant, while Paul McGinley has confirmed that McGuinness will have a role to play in the 2014 Ryder Cup.
