    GS1616YY DRAFT CHURCH OF ENGLAND MARRIAGE MEASURE SUMMARY OF MAIN CHANGES MADE AT THE FURTHER REVISION COMMITTEE STAGE The Revision Committee has made a number of amendments to simplify the Measure and, in particular, to make the list of “qualifying connections” in clause 1 less complex and more coherent. As a result, the “qualifying connections” are now as follows : (1) The person who is seeking to marry in the parish under the Measure: • was baptised in the parish; • has his or her confirmation recorded in a register belonging to the parish (i.e. in effect, he or she was prepared for confirmation in the parish); • has at any time had his or her usual place of residence in the parish for at least 6 months; or • has at any time habitually attended public worship in the parish for at least 6 months. (2) That person’s parent has at any time during the person’s lifetime: • had his or her usual place of residence in the parish for at least 6 months; • habitually attended public worship in the parish for at least 6 months; (3) That person’s parent or grandparent was married in the parish. “parent” in (2) and (3) includes an adoptive parent or a person who has undertaken the care and upbringing of the person concerned, and “grandparent” in (3) has a corresponding meaning. “married” in (3) refers to marriage according to the rites of the Church of England. The provisions on the church electoral roll , including the amendments to the Church Representation Rules to require parishes to keep details of past electoral rolls, which appeared in the previous draft of the Measure, have been deleted .

    Welcome, brothers and sisters to the Forty Eighth edition of “Church at Home”. I very much hope this will be the final edition of Church at Home, but we will see what happens in the coming weeks and months. On Sunday the 25th most of the restrictions on our worship will have been lifted and we can come together in broadly the way we were before this terrible pandemic affected every aspect of our lives. I would like to thank a number of people for specific roles during the pandemic. For Colin and Peter for implementing our risk assessments. The landscape produces a patchwork of rolling farmland and woods, designated as the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Special Scientific Interest. The towns of Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells run in parallel, five miles to the east; Edenbridge a similar distance to the west. All these towns offer excellent rail links to London, while the M25 runs just to the north, providing an easy link to the motorway network. The bishop would be required to give notice of the vacancy to the designated officer not later than the day on which the benefice becomes vacant in the case of resignation or retirement; or as soon as practicable in the case of an incumbent dying in office. (In the case of resignation or retirement, it would continue to be possible for the bishop to give the notice before the vacancy in the benefice occurs where the bishop considers it appropriate to do so.) 21. The designated officer would be required to give the notice of the vacancy to the PCC secretary as soon as practicable after receiving the notice from the bishop. 22. The notice given by the designated officer to the PCC secretary would– a) state the date on which the benefice had become vacant; b) provide the ‘start date’ for the statutory timetable for filling the vacancy; c) provide information about the statutory process, especially with regard to the duties the PCC has in that process. 23. The ‘start date’ for the statutory timetable would be the date on which the notice is sent by the designated officer to the PCC secretary or, if the bishop has so directed, a date not later than 3 months after the date of the vacancy. 24.
