Zapf Dingbats As Unicode Symbols 1 Zapf Dingbats as Unicode Symbols This package utilises the native ZapfDingbat PDF font to get a bunch of typographical symbols. It should be usable on any pdfTEX-centric installation. Installation Unpack symb-uni-zapf.zip in your TEX directory. It includes .tfm, .enc, and .map files. The symb-uzd.tex file is placed in the context/third directory. Run texhash to let TEX find the files. Usage Call this script with: \usesymbols[uzd] This loads the map file, and creates a font synonym. As pdfTEX only handles map files before the first page is shipped out, it’s best to call the \usesymbols command at the beginning of your file. If you have another Zapf Dingbat font, you can over-ride the default (built--in PDF) font with: \definefontsynonym[UnicodeRegular27][myfont] Then invoke the symbols with: Cut here: \symbol[Unicode Scissors][UpperBladeScissors]\crlf \setupsymbolset[Unicode Hearts] Have a heart: \symbol[HeavyBlackHeart] \definesymbol[1][{\symbol[RotatedFloralHeartBullet]}] \startitemize[packed,joinedup] \item Fleurons have a long typographic tradition. \item It turns out they’ve been available for free all along. \stopitemize Cut here: ✁ Have a heart: ❤ ❧ Fleurons have a long typographic tradition. ❧ It turns out they’ve been available for free all along. Bitstream Fonts in May 2005 at http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/bitstream totaling 350 font families with a total of 1357 font styles The former Bitstream typeface libraries consisted mainly of forgeries of Linotype fonts and of ITC fonts. See the list below on the pages 24–29 about the old Bitstream Typeface Library of 1992. The 2005 Bitstream typeface library contains the same forgeries of Linotype fonts as formerly and also the same ITC fonts, but it also includes a lot of new mediocre „rubbish fonts“ (e.g. „Alphabet Soup“, „Arkeo“, „Big Limbo“), but also a few new quality fonts (e.g. „Drescher Grotesk“, „Prima Serif“ etc.). On the other hand, a few old fonts (e.g. „Caxton“) were removed. See the list below on pages 1–23. The typeface collection of CorelDraw comprises almost the entire former old Bitstream typeface library (see the list below on pages 24–29) with the following exceptions: 1. A few (ca. 3) forgeries of Linotype fonts are missing in the CorelDraw font collections, e.g. the fonts „Baskerville No. 2“ (= Linotype Baskerville No. 2), „Italian Garamond“ (= Linotype Garamond Simoncini), and „Revival 555“ (= Linotype Horley Old Style). 2. A lot (ca. 11) of ITC fonts are not contained in the CorelDraw font collections, e.g. „ITC Berkeley Oldstyle“, „ITC Century“, „ITC Clearface“, „ITC Isbell“, „ITC Italia“, „ITC Modern No. 216“, „ITC Ronda“, „ITC Serif Gothic“, „ITC Tom’s Roman“, „ITC Zapf Book“, and „ITC Zapf International“. • The 2020 Los Angeles Printers Fair
The 2020 Los Angeles Printers Fair To say 2020 has been an unusual year is certainly the grand understatement of the year! As much as all of us have been forced to live inside our boxes, the pandemic has really been an opportunity to think outside the comforts of our boxes and explore new ideas. Given that restrictions are still in place for us at the International Printing Museum, we have had to rethink how to connect with our community of creative souls who normally come together each fall for the Printers Fair. Like so many other events in our lives right now, this has meant creating a virtual experience but with a twist. So, welcome to the 12th annual 2020 VIRTUAL LOS ANGELES PRINTERS FAIR at the International Printing Museum (or in your living room or studio or apartment...). The Printing Museum team has worked hard to create an exceptional online event that captures some of the magic of visiting the Printers Fair in person; we are bringing our big tent of creative artisans to your screen this year. The Virtual Los Angeles Printers Fair is a wonderful opportunity to meet book artists, letterpress printers and printmakers and peruse their work. The beauty of this world known as Book Arts is that this is already a group thinking and working outside the modern boxes of our world, using traditional machines and methods but typically with a very modern twist. We have set up the PrintersFair.com website to give you as much of an opportunity to meet these creatives, see their shops and learn about their work.
