Atlanta Braves Clippings Wednesday, June 3, 2015 Braves.com Braves rally, only to fall to D-backs on late HR By Barry M. Bloom and Jake Rill / MLB.com | 2:10 AM ET PHOENIX -- A.J. Pollock hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the seventh inning to lift the D-backs to a 7-6 win over the Braves on Tuesday night at Chase Field. Pollock's opposite-field blast came on a 1-0 pitch from Braves reliever Brandon Cunniff, landing in the swimming pool in right-center. It was the sixth homer of the year for the center fielder, who has hit safely in 12 of 14 games and batted .397 during that stretch. "I just got a pitch middle-away, I was trying to put it in the gap and watch Ender [Inciarte] run and hopefully get that run in," Pollock said. "Fortunate enough, it went over the fence." Braves starter Shelby Miller had his shortest outing of the year, lasting just 4 1/3 innings and giving up a season-high four runs on six hits and a season-high six walks. D-backs starter Josh Collmenter took his third straight no-decision, giving up three runs in 5 2/3 innings. "I just didn't get in the groove type thing, but those kinds of days happen," Miller said. "I mean, you're human. You look at Felix Hernandez's start [on Monday night in a Mariners' 7-1 loss to the Yankees] and other guys who are doing well have poor starts.

By Mike DiGiovanna The Jerome Williams joy ride turned into a high-wire act Tuesday night. Good thing for the wild right- hander the Angels bullpen and defense were there with a safety net. Reliever Hisanori Takahashi, pitching in a rare high-leverage situation, bailed Williams out of trouble in the fifth inning of a tie game, and the veteran left-hander combined with Bobby Cassevah, Scott Downs and Jordan Walden to throw 42/3 scoreless innings. Howie Kendrick crushed a pair of two-out, two-run home runs, and the Angels turned four double plays in a 6-3 victory over the Oakland Athletics that kept them three games behind the Texas Rangers in the American League West with 14 to play. Williams was 3-0 with a 3.51 earned-run average since being called up on Aug. 17, a promotion that ended a four-year odyssey that included tours in Taiwan, Mexico, Puerto Rico and two independent leagues. He walked four in 252/3 innings of his first six games but was all over the place Tuesday night, allowing three runs and seven hits and walking five in 41/3 innings. "You walk five, you're going to get killed — that's not my game," Williams said. "Fortunately, the guys behind me played their butts off and turned a few nice double plays." The Angels, who had only two hits in 11 at-bats with runners in scoring position, snapped a 3-3 tie in the seventh, a rally Erick Aybar sparked with a single.

SF Giants Press Clips Monday, May 7, 2018 San Francisco Chronicle Giants complete sweep of Atlanta in Andrew Suarez’s first big-league win Henry Schulman ATLANTA — The Giants’ charge over the past five series can be dissected a dozen different ways, from their stable of older hitters starting to progress toward their career numbers, to the excellent pitching, to younger players such as Mac Williamson, Alen Hanson and Andrew Suarez arriving from the minors and infusing life into the team. Or, just let Pablo Sandoval distill it in three words. “We’re having fun,” Sandoval said after the Giants survived a ninth-inning scare and beat Atlanta 4-3 Sunday to complete their first series sweep of 2018 against a team that came into the weekend with the swagger befitting a 19-11 team. The Giants finished their fifth consecutive series win and forged their first four-game win streak of the season. They have won seven of their past eight, and 12 of 16, with their two top starting pitchers, closer and second baseman out of the picture. The Giants outscored the Braves 24-9 as several hitters who began the year slowly, contributing to the team’s 7-11 start, got healthier at run-friendly SunTrust Park. Andrew McCutchen went 5-for-10 with three walks, a hit batsman and a sacrifice fly. Brandon Crawford was 8-for-14 after entering the series 20-for-98 for the season. Hanson was 6-for-14 with three doubles, a homer and two hand-first slides into the plate for runs that put a charge into the dugout.
