Jackie Sykes reviewed the summit of the across the ridge height trailGreat in general. Very sharp in the parts that leave the legs sore. Quite a few people passed on Sunday 10/18 we walked, but certainly will not be classified as heavily trafficked. Lots of parking when we arrived at 10:30. Great views from the top and for a large part of the height. It was very windy at the top. Jake Pratt street reviewed Mount Nye Mountain Trailmud Mud Mud. Slippery upwards, a bit of snow on top of the street, nothing to worry about quite yet. The ascent wasn't so bad, we started around 5:45 am and we returned to the car by noon with about an hour of rest time at the top. Hardly any views, but oh gotta check it out of the list! Everyone said that: MUD. Especially on a porter. Honestly this height is fun and will feel unexpectedly manicured and easy to go for anyone who may climb any of the other high peaks. Very fun and rewarding. Wear shoes! Also, people bring masks. The trail is sometimes narrow, and you must mask up when passing others. Xoxo Reviewed Mary Grimke Mountain Street and Nye Mountain A lot. Mud. It insists life of you seems like an endless stretch of stumble and even with large waterproof shoes, columns, it was hard not to slip. Oh, no limited views on the street, but disappointing. On the bright side, it's a fairly mild climb for HP and reasonably easy to follow the track even though it's not stretched. Don't even think about trying in sneakers - muddy is an understatement, at some points you can sink six inches deep into black tar like mud. Cascade was an amazing sight and worth it. Porter was disappointing/can skip if you're short in time (but cool because you can knock one of 46 from your list. In any case, you'll do it first if it's going both so you can finish on a high note of cascade). Favata reviewed Street Mountain and Nye Mount TrailDid this a few months ago. Beautiful forgetfulness, no views. I've strayed several times when the river climbs very easy generallyAnthony Kenny reviewed the for McComb and Dix MountainBeautiful sites! The pictures just don't capture the scene. Remember no Verizon cell service,.whoops. If you enter on the fork end south north of the river trail follows on the edge. Look for Cairns as soon as you get a few miles high. Doing a loop of peaks towards the top of the deeks, the wall you have to get up is challenging. I learned too late you can bushwhack to the left to get around it. You'll know what wall I mean when you get there we've climbed up the deeks descent heading to the round pond was icy, we used small spikes. The landing was rocky for a few miles. Great views. The trail is uncovered and steep with easy rocks scrambling along the way. Hikers will be treated to stunning views and a waterfall on their way to the top. The summit can be crowded during the summer months. The trail is a popular destination for Lake Placid hikers and ski enthusiasts. Check the weather before going as cold conditions and frequent sudden weather changes. The trail of Route 73 can be reached before reaching the cascading lakes.Show MoreMount Marcy via van Hoeffenberg Trail #2 - via Van Hoeffenberg Trehillhead Peaks Primard (937) Length: 15.4 miles • Est. 8 h 11 mMount Marcy Peak is the highest point in state within the Upper Peaks region. This is a challenging height due to its length. Starting from The Van Hoeffenberg Road from Adirondack Loj or near Lake Heart, the route is easy until you reach the Marcy Dam. Once you have reached the dam, you begin to climb the rocky terrain, as Mostly rocks, and that's still most of the way from there on. Stop and take a break by Brooke Phelps and Indian Falls to take in some excellent views. You will need to refill the water bottles here as there are no streams the rest of the way. Hiking gets harder as you approach the top. Another 1.2 miles is the hardest climb of the height and the last batch is the cornerstone that feels steeper than it is. However, the yield from the top of Mount Marcy is a wonderful view of the high peaks of Adirondack, Mont Royal in Montreal, Canada, and the green mountains of Vermont are all from the highest peak in the state. This is the popular road within the traveled heavily, well maintained, characterized very well, but can be rough on weak ankles. Hiking shoes with good ankle support are recommended. Show more Trail #3 - Ampersand Mountain Trailhigh Tops Wildernesshard (1008) Length: 4.8 miles • Est. 3 h 7 mThis height is not one of 46 but at 3352', Ampersand is fun and challenging height with great views from the top. There are some steep, difficult areas with rocky faces and some rocks but it's worth it. Depending on the time of year, we recommend microspikes/convulsions. Show More Atmosphere Trail Trail Ring #4 - Mount Joe TrailHigh Hill Wildernessmoderate (896) Length: 1.8 miles • Est. 1 hour 12 mMount Jo stands 700 feet above Heart Lake near ADK Loj south of Lake Placid in the heart of the High Peaks area of Adirondacks. Mount Joe has two paths leading to its peak. The summit offers stunning views of the high peaks and the MacIntyre Collection, a great picnic for children. This is a very short two-mile loop height that will bring you to the top of a wonderful little peak above The Heart Lake with just over 600 feet of climbing. It's a great picnic for toddlers or an older family member who you want to get outdoors. It's also a good height if you have time and energy after another shorter 46er height like Phelps or maybe Tabletop.Show moreBig mountain slide across brothers #5 - a big slide mountain across brothersHigh wildernesshard (736) length: 7.6 miles • Est. 5 h 11 mA fantastic height with great high peak views, high gains, rocking, and well-marked trail. This is a true gem, and the Brothers Road is a 1.5-mile rock chain. Then climb to the top of the big slide. Local favorites and pins in the high peaks area. Surely parking will be filled on weekends, and hikers will need to stand 3 miles down the road and pay for the shuttle service. Worth the cost (start early for parking space!!). Show moreAlgonquin, Iroquois and Wright Peaks via Algonquin Trail #6 - Algonquin, Iroquois and Wright Peaks across Algonquin TrailHigh Wildernesshard Peaks (715) Length: 10.2 miles • Est. 6 h 6 mGreat views from all three peaks. From Wright and Agunkuen you have a great view of Lake Placid. Hey you So see the Olympic ski jump. From Algonquin and Iroquois you will have a pleasant view of the high peaks to both east and west. The first and a half mile is relatively flat with scattered rocks. After that you start to get up quickly. At this point the density of the rocks and the size of the rocks will increase. is a fun station. There are a lot of bare rock faces on the trip. After that, it will continue in the direction of Algonquin. From this point you'll be walking on the face of a mostly naked rock. On a dry day this will probably be straight forward. In wet and muddy conditions be prepared to spend more energy climbing the face of the rocks and find the foot holds a little to prevent slipping. From Algonquin the trip to Iroquois is fun and simple. Follow Cairns down the south side of Algonquin and you'll eventually find a retained trail. At some point you will come to a sharp left turn and a sign that says the left foot trail. To reach Iroquois you have to ignore this signal and look for the path of the herd to the right of the mark. This will take you to Iroquois if you start losing altitude quickly, you miss the hearing path. Show more of the smoothest dam trail #7 - Marcy Dam Trailhay Wild Peaks Modert (1145) Length: 4.2 miles • Est. 1 hour 58 this rocky trail is filled up and down. Great views at the end and opportunities to connect other trails to take advantage of different routs on the way to or out. This route consists mostly of access to the Marcy Dam. Summer height can be nice but it is best suited for cross-country skiing and snow shoes. The trail is full of ups and downs so it can be a lot of fun for intermediate skiers and experts, but it can be a real bunch for beginners because there will be many falls coming down the winding slopes. Show more The Gonquin Peak and Wright Peak via The Algonquin Trail #9 - and Wright Peak via Algonquin TrailHigh Wild Peaks (494) Length: 10 Miles • Est. 5 h 22 mAlthough somewhat daunting, and the extent of McIntyre is one of the most beautiful climbs in all high peaks. There are a few ways to climb these peaks, and whatever way you decide, you will have great views throughout the day, weather permitting. Start at Adirondack Lodge in Heart Lake. After logging into the head of the road at the far end of the parking lot, follow the 1 mile track. You'll see the intersection of the trail, marked, follow it to the right because this is your path to Wright Peak, Algonquin, The Summit of Iroquois. It is 2.6 km from Wright Peak. For the first part up towards Wright, the rocks make a drawer which is very nice and easy to follow. You will experience some steep rocks but easy to get up. You can't miss the mark for Wright's Peak (#16 on the 46'er list), follow the trail left.4 miles to the top. In clear days you can see for miles in every direction. There's a license plate for the soldiers whose plane crashed into the mountain, so look for it. You climb down, keep the trail head around 30-40 minutes and you'll be on top of Algonquin (#2 on the 46'er list). Very beautiful views. If you follow the top you will see Cairns lining down the back side of algonquin leading towards the top of the Iroquois which is 1 mile. Now, after following Cairns down you'll see an arrow pointing to the left, don't take it. Go right from here, the road is too narrow. At one point, the rocks get steep and you will have to climb part of it. Shorter people and children will have difficulties here. But once you reach the first summit, iroquois is next. Just keep track of Cairns and make it look great again. On the way back, you can follow this arrow and take it towards the avalanche lake, follow the signs to Marcy Dam and inn symper or just return the path you came from.
