Who can deny Waldo Frank that the monstrous forces of reaction, of war and fascism, are Joseph Freeman Hugo Gellert rushing forward fiercely, thirsty to impose upon all humanity Lawrence Gellert such slaughter, destruction and terror As was never seen upon Robert Gessner this earth. Michael Gold Joseph Gollomb Harry Gottlieb You have seen the ruthless murder of thousands of unarmed Grace Greenwood Negroes in Ethiopia, out down by machine guns, shell fire, Marion Greenwood poison gas, killed in their tracks as they bravely defended Horace Gregory their homes! You witness at this moment a Fascist onslaught William Gropper Henry Hart against the people of Spain which for sheer cruelty and bar Josephine Herbst barism Is as yet unmatched. War preparations, on an incred Granville Hicks ible scale, are rushed furiously. Hitler brazenly armed to Langston Hughes the teeth, threatens the whole world with war. He shouts, Rolfe Humphries Joe Jones At Nuremberg — “If I had the Urals, if we possessed Siberia, Tillie Lerner if we had the Ukraine, Nazi Germany would be swimming in Meridel Le Sueur surplus prosperity!“ Walter Lowenfels Louis Lozowick Grace Lumpkin The terror grows. Whole populations are enslaved. Trade Bruce Minton Unions have been smashed, civil fights denied. In country Samuel Ornitz after country, there are wholesale arrests, hundreds of thous S. J. Today*s issues may well Louise Thompson become tomorrow's bloody battles for our very lives! Harold Ward Lynd Ward Clara Weatherwax The present election campaign is the most important and Max Weber decisive in the past fifty years. Who but a ninny can Ignore W alter Wilson the significance of Hearst, the Liberty League, the Black Ella Winter Art Young GRamercy 5-45(7 - 2 - Legion, of Coughlin and the whole caboodle of fascist minded men? We profess ionals must take our stand. It must not happen here! Beyond the issues even of hard times, unemployment, hunger and want loom the greater issues of democracy or fascism — peace or war. We of this Comm ittee of Professionals believe Roosevelt cannot be relied upon to defeat the reactionaries. There must be, to the left of Roosevelt, a mighty, articulate force, a bulwark against war and fascism. Lacking as yet a genuine Popular Pront, a united people's party, we believe the candidacies of lari Browder and James W. lord, Communist Candidates for President and Vice President offer the best choice for the professional and intellectual worker. We believe that a huge vote for these front fighters in our battle against war and fascism and all reactionary forces, is the most forceful answer a democratic and progress ive American can give to the menace which threatens at this very hour. It is they who point out clearly where the danger lies} It is they who mobilize the real fighting forces of peace, they who call for an all-inclusive people's government to defend us against the dark forces of destruction which at this very moment, here in our own country seek to smash all semblance of freedom, democracy and civilization. We urge you to vote for Browder and Pord. We urge you to rally your friends to vote. But this is not enough. Our committee has undertaken to. sponsor one radio broadcast over a whole nationwide hookup - to bring the voioe of Earl Browder, in a special message to professionals and Intellectuals to every nook and corner of the land! This broadcast will cost $4,500 for the whole country. It will reach millions. We call upon you to take your place in this fight by sponsoring a part of the broadcast. A contribution of $5 will cover a good sized town. Only $10 is needed to cover a city - $100 a county and $200 a whole state! Time is short. The election draws near. We cannot afford to send you another appeal. You know the issue. You know it is your fight. While pro fessionals in Germany are suffering indescribable torture in this fight, while those in Spain are heroically giving their lives to defeat the fascist monster will you give your dollars — while there is yet time? Enclosed Is a return envelope. It is self addressed — requires no stamp. Check your sponsorship - a town, city or state. Then mail cheek or money order to cover. You can put Browder on the air to reach the professionals. You can strike a decisive blow for peace, against war and fascist horror. Will you do it? Please hurry. Treasurer.
