This new book from Thomas A. Christie takes a look at all of the Bond films produced during the 1980s, and investigates the series changing approach to its subject matter during this most socially turbulent of decades. Moving from the East-West tension plotlines of the later Roger Moore James Bond films into a conscious deviation towards less conventional subject areas during the Timothy Dalton era, Bonds evolving role as a Cold War hero is examined in order to ascertain just how the character was adapted to meet the demands of rapidly changing world aairs. -
The 007Th Minute Ebook Edition
“What a load of crap. Next time, mate, keep your drug tripping private.” JACQUES A person on Facebook. STEWART “What utter drivel” Another person on Facebook. “I may be in the minority here, but I find these editorial pieces to be completely unreadable garbage.” Guess where that one came from. “No, you’re not. Honestly, I think of this the same Bond thinks of his obituary by M.” Chap above’s made a chum. This might be what Facebook is for. That’s rather lovely. Isn’t the internet super? “I don’t get it either and I don’t have the guts to say it because I fear their rhetoric or they’d might just ignore me. After reading one of these I feel like I’ve walked in on a Specter round table meeting of which I do not belong. I suppose I’m less a Bond fan because I haven’t read all the novels. I just figured these were for the fans who’ve read all the novels including the continuation ones, fan’s of literary Bond instead of the films. They leave me wondering if I can even read or if I even have a grasp of the language itself.” No comment. This ebook is not for sale but only available as a free download at Commanderbond.net. The Stakes Ben Sanders
FEBRUARY 2018 The Stakes Ben Sanders An NYPD robbery detective uses his insider knowledge to rob criminals. The dazzling new stand-alone thriller from the bestselling author of American Blood and Marshall's Law. Description Rip-offs are a dangerous game, but NYPD robbery detective Miles Keller thinks he's found a good strategy: rip off rich New York criminals and then retire early, before word's out about his true identity. New town, new name, no worries. Retirement can't come soon enough, though. The NYPD is investigating him for the shooting of a hitman named Jack Deen, who was targeting Lucy Gates - a former police informant and Miles's ex-lover. Miles thinks shooting hitmen counts as altruism, but in any case a murder charge would make life difficult. He's ready to go to ground, but then Nina Stone reappears in his life. Nina is a fellow heist professional and the estranged wife of LA crime boss Charles Stone. Miles last saw her five years ago, when he was investigating her for bank robbery and looked the other way, for reasons he is still trying to figure out. Since then her life has grown more complicated: her husband wants her back, and he's dispatched his go-to gun thug to play repo man. Complicating matters is the fact that the gun thug in question is Bobby Deen, cousin of the dead Jack Deen - and Bobby wants vengeance. The stakes couldn't be higher, but Nina has an offer that could be lucrative. Maybe Miles can stick around a while longer and get the big payoff he's been waiting for? But luck has a way of running out and soon Miles is in way over his head. -

the Bollinger & 007 collector bullet On the occasion of the release of Quantum of Solace, Champagne Bollinger has commissioned the French designer Eric Berthès to create a collector’s item which would mark the association between the House and Her Majesty’s secret agent. The concept is that of the bullet of a gun (in the spirit of the Walther PPK), and lying on a carbon covered base. This bullet, which has an impressive size (about 65cm) will contain a magnum of Bollinger 1999 dressed in black and silver. Once the magnum released from its cradle, the inside of the bullet converts into a set of compartments in which a modern gentlemen can store his personal accessories. The bullet closes with a leather garnished key. Only [200+007] copies of this collector’s item, each individually numbered, will be produced. One of them will be auctioned to raise money for an international charity. This item will be sold worldwide with a recommended retail price of 4.000 E. Ian Fleming (1908–64), Novelist and Journalist
22 Ian Fleming (1908–64), Novelist and Journalist JOHN HATCHER Fleming at Yugawara hot spring in 1959 1959 TOKYO VISIT When Ian Fleming arrived in Japan in November 1959 dressed in his habitual lightweight dark blue suit, polka dot bow tie and moccasins, an ebony cigarette holder clamped between his teeth, he was only just coming into the first flush of his success as the creator of James Bond. Since Casino Royale (1953) he had published six Bond novels, with Goldfinger having been published a few months earlier. Film companies were sniffing around – Fleming himself favoured James Stewart or Richard Burton for Bond, with Hitchcock as director – but the world- wide Bond cult would not really take off until the first Bond movie in 1962. In any case, James Bond was far from Fleming’s mind. After churning out a book a year since 1952, he was growing weary of his hero, who seemed to be taking over his life. He was in Tokyo on an all- expenses-paid escape and escapade: the Sunday Times had dispatched him on a five-week tour of his personal canon of ‘the thrilling cities of the world’ – Hong Kong, Macao, Tokyo, Honolulu, Los Angeles, 221 BRITAIN & JAPAN: BIOGRAPHICAL PORTRAITS VOLUME VI Las Vegas, Chicago, New York.1 Unlike his friend Somerset Maugham, who had arrived by boat from Europe days earlier, Fleming was emphatically a post-war traveller, revelling in the speed of air travel, having arrived in the Far East on a BOAC Comet that took twenty-six hours from London to Hong Kong via Zurich, Beirut, Bahrain, New Delhi and Bangkok armed with a £803 19s. -
