Arnside and Silverdale AONB Development Plan Document (DPD) Arnside & Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Development Plan Document (DPD) Adopted Version 28 March 2019 www.southlakeland.gov.uk www.lancaster.gov.uk Arnside & Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Development Plan Document (DPD) – Adopted Version, 28 March 2019 Foreword This Development Plan Document (DPD) for the Arnside & Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) has been produced by Lancaster and South Lakeland District Councils, with assistance from the Arnside & Silverdale AONB Unit. A joint working approach makes sense because these bodies have a shared responsibility for this important designated landscape. The AONB DPD is the first Development Plan Document for an AONB in the country. The AONB DPD complements the Management Plan for the AONB, for which the underlying principle is to work collaboratively to help conserve and enhance the landscape of the area. The AONB DPD places the landscape at the heart of shaping development over the next 15 years. It is a clear statement of the positive benefits of joint working between Lancaster and South Lakeland, and the two Councils are committed to applying the policies consistently. Lancaster City Council (LCC) resolved to adopt the DPD at a meeting on 13 March 2019 and South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) resolved to adopt it at a meeting on 28 March 2019. The DPD therefore came into effect from 28 March 2019 and forms part of the Lancaster City Council Development Plan and the South Lakeland District Council Development Plan. Signed: Cllr. Clerk to ask Milnthorpe PC if they could help with this as part of their equivalent routine with Milnthorpe SIDs. 5.3 Replacement of Carr Bank bus shelter (12.3) – the stability of the shelter had been checked by the suppliers, accompanied by Cllr Noble, and found to be within acceptable engineering tolerances. 5.4 Four Lane Ends, Storth signpost (12.4) – Cllr Pickup explained the work involved, which was cleared to proceed.

    Storth Geotrail Guide September 2013 This 5 kilometre (3.2 miles) route with 18 waypoints explores the landforms and geology around Storth and Sandside in the Arnside & Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Full exploration will take about 3 hours. There is a shorter 1 hour option along Sandside Cutting or a longer 8 kilometre (5 miles) route extending south to Arnside Moss and Hazelslack. At the end of this guide there is advice about safety, local services and geological information sources. Start The trail begins at the Ship Inn (SD478807) close to Sandside Cutting where there is an information board. The route is best done anticlockwise starting with a walk along the Cutting. Seasons – This is a lovely walk at any time of year but winter offers the best geoviews with less vegetation. Park by the estuary 300m south of the Ship Inn - Patrons of the pub may use their car park.

Cumbria Rural Housing Trust (CRHT) was commissioned by South Lakeland District Council and Lancaster City Council, with the support of Arnside and Silverdale AONB Partnership, to conduct a Housing Needs Survey in each of the parishes within the AONB as part of the plan preparation process. The aim of the AONB Housing Needs Surveys is to provide additional evidence, at parish level, to supplement existing housing needs based evidence previously prepared by South Lakeland District and Lancaster City Councils. In South Lakeland that evidence specifically includes a Strategic Housing Market Assessment (SHMA), undertaken in 2014 by arc4 and also the Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) undertaken in 2009 by Roger Tym and Partners.
