FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MUSEUM OF THE MOVING IMAGE PRESENTS MONTH-LONG SCREENING SERIES ‘NO JOKE: ABSURD COMEDY AS POLITICAL REALITY’ Personal appearances by The Yes Men and PFFR, new work by Tim Heidecker and Gregg Turkington, and films by Chaplin, Spike Lee, Scorsese, Bruno Dumont, and more October 9–November 10, 2019 Astoria, New York, September 12, 2019—MoMI presents No Joke: Absurd Comedy as Political Reality, a fourteen-program series that chronicles some of the most inventive and ingenious ways artists—from Charlie Chaplin to The Yes Men—have reckoned with their political environments. The series features work by filmmakers and other entertainers who are producing comedy and satire at a time when reality seems too absurd to be true. Organized by guest curator Max Carpenter, No Joke opens October 7 with Mister America, the new pseudo-documentary by the comedy duo Tim Heidecker and Gregg Turkington—which will be presented at multiple venues on the same night—and continues through November 10, with films including General Idi Amin Dada: A Self Portrait; William Klein’s Mr. Freedom; Bruno Dumont’s Li’l Quinquin and Coincoin and the Extra-Humans; Spike Lee’s Bamboozled; Chaplin’s Monsieur Verdoux; Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street; the Adult Swim TV series Xavier: Renegade Angel, with creators PFFR in person; Dusan Makavejev’s The Coca-Cola Kid; Starship Troopers; and TV Carnage, by Ontario artist Derrick Beckles. Among other special events are Heidecker and Turkington’s 2017 comic epic The Trial, followed by a live video conversation with the duo, and An Evening with The Yes Men, featuring the activist prankster team of Andy Bichlbaum and Mike Bonnano in person for a conversation with clips of their greatest stunts.

This case involves Viacom’s abuse of its market power over access to commercially critical networks – its highly popular Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, BET, and MTV networks – to force Cablevision to license and distribute over scarce bandwidth some dozen other Viacom networks, which Viacom calls Suite Networks, that many Cablevision subscribers do not watch and for which Cablevision would prefer to substitute competing networks. Viacom strong-armed Cablevision into carrying Suite Networks by threatening to impose a near $ billion penalty if Cablevision licensed only the Viacom networks Cablevision wanted, networks Viacom calls its Core Networks. Stated differently, unless Cablevision agreed to distribute Viacom’s Suite, Cablevision would pay nearly as much for just the Core (which includes commercially critical networks) than for the Core and Suite 1 Case 1:13-cv-01278-LTS Document 9 Filed 03/07/13 Page 2 of 60 combined. Viacom’s diabolical and coercive scheme, which harms competition, consumers, and Cablevision, constitutes tying and block booking in violation of the Sherman Act and New York law.

Copyrighted Material - Provided by Taylor & Francis Translating Culture Specifi c References on Television Offering an in-depth analysis of the translation of Culture Specifi c Ref- erences in three interesting and original television series, Ranzato’s work uncovers key trends in Italian dubbing and contributes to documenting the evolution of this fascinating AVT modality. She provides an impressive amount of examples, beautifully argued and presented, in a monograph which will engage AVT researchers and translation scholars alike. —Rocío Baños Piñero, Centre for Translation Studies, University College London, UK Translating Culture Specifi c References on Television provides a model for investigating the problems posed by culture specifi c references in transla- tion, drawing on case studies that explore the translational norms of con- temporary Italian dubbing practices. This monograph makes a distinctive contribution to the study of audiovisual translation and culture specifi c references in its focus on dubbing, as opposed to subtitling, and on con- temporary television series rather than cinema. Irene Ranzato’s research involves detailed analysis of three TV series dubbed into Italian, drawing on a corpus of 95 hours that includes nearly 3,000 CSR translations. Ranzato proposes a new taxonomy of strategies for the translation of CSRs and explores the sociocultural, pragmatic and ideological implications of audio- visual translation for the small screen. Irene Ranzato is a researcher in English language and translation at Sapienza University
