For more information visit us at www.campbrooklyn.org 2 March 13, 2013 Dear Friends, Welcome to the Barclays Center for a very special evening – the Camp Brooklyn Fund Community Service Award. As many of you know, Camp Brooklyn is an initiative that is near and dear to my wife, Jamie and I, and your support means all the world to us. This year we are delighted to honor outstanding banking executive Peter Meyer, New York Market President for TD Bank, and the visionary Bruce Ratner, Chairman of Forest City Ratner Companies. Jamie and I believe that nature and children belong together, but for many urban kids, especially those from low-income Brooklyn families, enjoying the great out- doors is a dream deferred. Giving these children a sleep-away camp experience in a beautiful, country setting not only makes their summer healthy and fun, it can truly change lives. Yet for so many, it is simply unaffordable. Our goal in founding Camp Brooklyn was to help as many Brooklyn kids as possible attend an accredited summer sleep-away camp and for each of them to have the experience of a lifetime! And while our Camp Brooklyn campers may come from economically disadvantaged families, we make sure that their camp experience is first class! And don’t forget, sending youngsters to camp also means a much-needed break for working parents. Camp time for kids mean a little R&R for their caregivers! Profound thanks to the hardworking Camp Brooklyn Fund Board led by its Executive Director Debra Garcia. Bravo to event planner, Karen Rosenberg, President of Empire Events Group. Enjoy the evening and good luck with your auction and raffle bids! Let’s send a lot of Brooklyn kids to sleep away camp! Their commitment to making Brooklyn a better place to live, work and play is an inspiration to us all. With the generosity of our corporate partners and caring individuals, we have been able to send thousands of deserving kids to sleep-away camp for an experience they will never forget. There is a saying ‘Noblesse Oblige’… with wealth, power, and prestige come social responsibility. Meaning, those who are capable to help someone who is less fortunate, should do so. By being here this evening, placing an ad in the journal, or making a donation, you are doing just that...and we thank you. We are excited to announce that starting this year, through the agency that administers our funds, a camper database will be implemented enabling us to track the academic progress as well as social and emotional growth of our funded campers. The data collected will provide a clear picture of the progress of our campers year to year.
