Regardless, Liss looks the beginning of July to continue to improve with each start and to the first weekend of keep giving the AppleSox an excellent chance August. to win every time that he toes the rubber.

AppleSox have played, AppleSox photo © 2021 Macy Lowe Cam Liss has started three of them. The southpaw who will be a junior at Washington State this fall started at home on June 20, July 11 and July 18. The only reason that Liss didn’t start the AppleSox first Sunday home game on July 13 is because he picked up the two-inning three days prior against the in his first outing in an AppleSox uniform.

Liss was fantastic during his first three starts at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium, allowing just three runs (two earned) in 14.1 innings. His devastating has helped him strike out a combined 23 batters in those three outings. In each of those three games Liss recorded for over half of the outs that he recorded.

The most impressive thing is how Liss has improved each start. He allowed two runs in 4.1 innings on June 20 against Bend, then allowed an unearned run in five innings against Corvallis on July 11 before tossing five shutout in- nings against the Cascade Collegiate League All-Stars on July 18.

Liss has made it easy for Sanderson to pencil him in each Sunday as the AppleSox starter. Sanderson let Liss remain behind in Wenatchee when the AppleSox went on the road to face Port Angeles July 6-8 and again when they were in Bellingham from July 13-15. Sanderson may continue to do that for as long as Liss is with the AppleSox so that Liss can 9 2021 Wenatchee AppleSox Baseball Club

21 2021 Wenatchee AppleSox Baseball Club The Many Challenges of Running a Baseball Team

Whether she’s in an AppleSox polo or a Sox t-shirt, you’ve inevitably noticed her running around before, during and after home games the past few seasons. Maybe you’ve even heard guest service workers referring to her.

“Ask Allie. Go tell Allie. Where’s Allie?”

Allie is AppleSox General Manager Allie Schank who is in her first summer in that role with the AppleSox, though she first joined the team as the assistant general manager in 2018 weeks after graduating from the University of Georgia.

Schank spent the bulk of the 2018 season learning on the fly but quickly becoming a crucial part of the organization. She ran the souvenir stand during home games while easing into her assistant general manager role.

This certainly isn’t the ideal first year as general manager but it has taught her a lot. Not having games allowed her more time to prepare for an unprecedented campaign.

“Even though we didn’t play any games in 2020, it was still a very busy year,” Schank said. “Once we knew that season wasn’t happening, Jose made a point of shifting our focus to doing whatever needed to be done to make the 2021 season a good one.”

Schank spent a lot of that time between 2019 and 2021 speaking with sponsors and coming up with hypotheticals for the 2021 season. Plans were plotted and fell through plenty because of COVID but many of the thoughts and goals that she had in mind became useful when this year came around.

One of those ideas was to have a “Bark In the Park Night.” Schank got an Australian Shepherd named Colchuck during the pandemic and quickly decided she wanted to have a night where he and other dogs could watch the game with their owners. That came to fruition on July 18 as Colchuck and other dogs came to Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium and watched from the grass area down the left-field line as the AppleSox won 10-1. 22 Celebrating summer... one inning at a time!

In 2019, the AppleSox signed two CCL players, pitcher Ryan Isler and Henry Lenaburg.

However, she has made trips to Cowlitz and Corvallis this year and has supplied the team with homemade desserts, snacks and waters for the occasional road trip, something that differed from previous seasons.

That’s not all Schank has done for the team on the road. The AppleSox wrapped up a six games in six consecutive days road trip in two different cities against the Corvallis Knights on June 27 at Goss Stadium. The trip hadn’t gone the way that the AppleSox wanted as they dropped four-of-the-six games. However, Schank made a point to deliver sandwiches, snacks and drinks to the team bus before they got back on.

Schank has left her mark as general manager by making a point to be involved in directly shaping how AppleSox players enjoy their summer in Wenatchee.

“I want players who come here to enjoy their summer with us,” Schank said. “We aren’t in big cities like Victoria and we don’t share the same ballpark as a recent College World Series champ in Corvallis.
