We are pleased to serve as your host for the tournament. The information presented within this manual is to be used in conjunction with the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Handbook available at http://web1.ncaa.org/web_files/champ_handbooks/baseball/2010/10_3_baseball.pdf. Each institution should receive a team packet from the NCAA, complete with information on team expense forms, transportation, tickets and other related information. Trainer W (910) 630-7177 [email protected] C (910) 818-2784 Team Information Hotel Accommodations: Rooms have been secured for participating teams in the Fayetteville/Spring Lake area. DeeDee Jarman will contact each head coach Monday morning with the hotel information for your team. Please contact DeeDee Jarman on her cell at (910) 308-2420 with any questions regarding your hotel on Monday. Squad Size: Division III regulations state each team will be permitted a maximum of 34 people in the dugout, including 24 eligible players in uniform, eight others in uniform (nonstudent-athletes and coaching staff included) and two medical personnel. Non-uniformed personnel may not participate in pregame warm-ups or game-type functions. An institution that is advised it is in violation of this regulation and does not conform to it promptly automatically shall forfeit the competition. This is not an “appeal play”, further, there shall be no inordinate delay of the contest to allow the institution to conform to this rule. There will be no exceptions regarding squad size. The official roster form appears as Appendix B. Uniform Laundry Service All teams must bring a set of HOME and AWAY uniforms with them to the tournament. Teams anticipating laundry service should contact DeeDee Jarman at (910) 630-7283 or [email protected] to arrange drop-off and pick-up. All teams’ laundry must be turned in as soon as possible and teams will receive notification when the items will be available for retrieval. Locker Rooms Team locker rooms will be available for changing and showering. Teams will not be allowed to store items in the locker rooms. Ticket Information Admission will be charged throughout the tournament, per day, with access to all contests each day. General admission $5.00 daily / $15.00 tournament pass Students, Seniors, Children 5-12 $3.00 daily / $ 10.00 tournament pass Children under the age of 5 will be admitted free Each competing institution will be distributed their Tournament credentials at the Coaches Meeting on Tuesday evening (a maximum of 34) for their official travel party. Tournament credentials must be worn by team members to gain admittance into all areas throughout the tournament. Please make certain that your travel party is submitted at Tuesday’s meeting to obtain your credentials. All other players, coaches and institutional representatives not included on this form must pay general admission. Events Timetable Monday, May 17 Methodist University will host a conference call for all participating teams on Monday, May 17 at 10:00 a.m. The call in number is 800-201-2375 and the passcode is 928580. The Director of Athletics (or designee), Head Coach, Sports Information Director and Athletic Trainer of each participating institution are requested to be on the call. The agenda for the call is located in Appendix C. Tuesday, May 18 Armstrong-Shelley Field will be open on Tuesday for team practice based on the schedule below. DeeDee Jarman will be in contact with coaches directly to work on a time that works best according to travel plans. Directions to the baseball field can be found in Appendix A. Riddle Center on the Methodist University campus. A designated administrator and head coach of each participating institution must be in attendance. Game Schedule The game schedule will vary depending on the number of teams selected for the regional. Please consult the NCAA Baseball Championships Handbook p. 14-16 for the schedules. Games/Field Procedures Please be advised Methodist University is a dry campus. Possession and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited. Gate Access All participants and fans should use the main entrance to Armstrong-Shelley Field under the arch. Members of the official travel party should be prepared to show their credential to event staff for admittance. Field Facilities The concession stand will be open during all games, opening 30 minutes prior to the first game of the day and running until the start of the 8th inning of the last game of the day. NCAA merchandise will be available throughout the tournament. Participating teams will have the opportunity to pre-order championship merchandise. Batting Practice Teams will use Northwood Temple Academy and Pine Forest High School for batting practice during the tournament. Teams will have 30 minutes of batting practice beginning two hours before each game. Home team Pine Forest High School 525 Andrews Road (2.7 miles from campus) Visiting team Northwood Temple Academy 4200 Ramsey Street (1.1 miles from campus) Home Team On the first day of competition, the higher seeded team will be designated the home team, thereafter, the home team will be determined by the printed policy in the NCAA baseball handbook. (See Appendix D) Home teams will wear white (or light colored) uniforms and the visitor a contrasting color. Conflicts will be resolved by the NCAA representative. Each team should have at least two sets of uniform jerseys of contrasting colors (light vs. dark). Bench Assignments For all games the designated home team will occupy the third base dugout, without exception. Visiting teams will occupy the first base dugout. Team Film/Video Institutions will be allowed to videotape championship competition by their teams or their individual athletes for coaching purposes. Please contact Kirbie Britt for selected video locations. Credentials In addition to the credentials provided to the participating teams and officials, Methodist will provide credentials to members of the tournament event staff and members of the media (see media section for procedures). University and athletic administrators from participating institutions attending the tournament must contact DeeDee Jarman to request VIP credentials. Credentials are non-transferable. Game Officials Umpires are selected by the NCAA Division III South Regional Baseball Committee. Games Committee The games committee will include the NCAA representative, the chief umpire along with Methodist’s Bob McEvoy, DeeDee Jarman and Kirbie Britt. Drug Testing Student-athletes who compete in this championship may be subjected to drug testing in accordance with Bylaws 18.41.5 and 31.2.3 and may be determined ineligible as a result thereof. Only student-athletes who have consented in writing to such testing are initially eligible for this championship; thereafter student-athletes who are tested shall remain eligible only if they test negative. Each team should plan to have a designated member of their coaching or athletic training staff to serve as the liaison/courier for the drug testing company. Transportation Participating teams will be responsible for providing their own transportation to and from the competition and practice site and their lodging location. Head coaches will receive a car courtesy of Bleeker Automotive. Keys will be distributed at the pre-tournament meeting Tuesday night and will need to be turned in following the team’s exit from the tournament. Team Bus/Van Parking Buses for teams arriving for competition are asked to drop off passengers at the baseball field and then park back at the softball field. Overflow parking will be available, if needed, at the McLean Apartment Complex. Restrictions Security: The following items are NOT permitted inside the baseball stadium: alcoholic beverages, noisemakers, laser lights, strobe lights and signs/banners that promote poor sportsmanship. Coolers, tote bags, backpacks, etc. will NOT be permitted into the facility by spectators. Teams bring coolers for bench areas will be allowed. Prohibited: The use of all tobacco products is prohibited by student-athletes, coaches, umpires, athletic trainers, managers, and game personnel during practice sessions and game competition. The use of tobacco products during other championship activities such as post- game interviews, banquets, etc. is also prohibited. Violations of NCAA regulations shall be dealt with by the appropriate sports committee in accordance with Rule 3-10 of the NCAA Baseball Rules.
