FRANK LYON PASSES AWAY AT 74 Frank Lyon Jr. passed away at his home in Little Rock, Arkansas, Sunday at the age of 74. Lyon, along with his wife Jane, began Summer Wind Farm in 1995 in Georgetown, Kentucky. In Summer Wind’s 20-year history, they have bred the likes of Indygo Shiner and Mission Impazible. They have also both bred and purchased toppers at many sales in recent years, most notably purchasing Littleprincessemma, the dam of who was carrying a full brother to the Triple Crown winner, at last year’s Fasig-Tipton November sale, and Aubby K and More Hennesssy, the dam of 2014 GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf winner Hootenanny, at that sale this year. Summer Wind owned the dams of Horses of the Year Skip Away and Favorite Trick and champion Fleet Indian, as well. The lifelong businessman was involved with several companies, including the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Arkansas. Lyon is survived by his wife, and daughters Karen Bailey and Ashley Jackson.

CHAMPION JOCKEY PAT EDDERY DIES GOLDEN HORN IS CARTIER Pat Eddery, 11-time champion jockey in Britain and the winner HORSE OF THE YEAR of four G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphes, has died at age 63. The winner of more than 4,600 races in the saddle was reported to be in ill health as of late. Eddery had some of his finest moment in the silks of Khalid Abdullah and that owner/breeder’s Racing Manager Teddy Grimthorpe confirmed Eddery’s death Tuesday, saying, "It is extremely sad news. Everyone at Juddmonte is very shocked and saddened by it." Born in Newbridge, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Mar. 18, 1952, Eddery was the fifth of 12 children. His father, Jimmy, was a Group 1-winning jockey and his brother Paul was a successful jockey while his brother Robert was an accomplished trainer. Eddery began riding out for trainer Seamus McGrath at age eight and became an apprentice for that conditioner at 14. Cont. p3
