Jeff Mills, one of Festival headliners Jeff Mills, one of the most brilliant techno DJs and producers in the world, will be among the Festival headliners. He is the most recognized representative figure of Detroit Techno, the city where he began his career as a DJ on the WDRQ radio in 1984. He created with “Mad Mike Banks” the collective “Underground Resistance”, which became a reference in the electro sphere. In 1992, Jeff Mills created his own label “Axis”, to keep his artistic independence and produce his own timeless electronic music compositions, inspired by science fiction. While DJing worldwide, on average 100 gigs per year, Jeff Mills’s artistic career goes much further than techno music. For over a decade, he’s been transcending art forms through several collaborations in contemporary art. Interested in cinema and attracted by images, Jeff Mills started working on the fusion of image and sound in the year 2000, when he created and presented a new soundtrack for “Metropolis” by Fritz Lang at the Centre Pompidou. The following year he created “Mono”, an installation inspired by the movie “2001, a Space Odyssey”, by Stanley Kubrick. In 2004, Jeff Mills produced the DVD “Exhibitionist” which presents DJ sets filmed from various angles (from the front, top and side). In that same period, he acquired a new tool, the DVJ-X, which allowed him to manipulate image and sound together paving the way into the Art World. In 2005, Jeff Mills made, for MK2, a new soundtrack for the silent movie “Three Ages” by Buster Keaton, and created a series of 6 video art works presented in Paris at the Galerie Georges-Philippe et Nathalie Vallois and at the “rendez- vous vidéo” of the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rouen. Jeff Mills continued this work period with a production on Josephine Baker, presented during the FIAC 2005 in the Grand Palais. On July 2nd 2005, Jeff Mills played with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Montpellier, for the 20th anniversary of the Pont du Gard’s inclusion in the world heritage list by UNESCO. Along with the orchestra, Jeff Mills performed his own compositions, orchestrated by Thomas Roussel for this occasion. In 2007, he was invited by director Claire Denis to create the sound environment of the exhibition “Diaspora” at the Musée du Quai Branly in Paris. That same year, Jeff Mills received the title of “Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres” from the French ministry of Culture. In 2008, Jeff Mills was commissioned to create a contemporary installation for the 100th Anniversary of the Futurist Manifesto again at the Centre Pompidou. At the Sonar Festival in Barcelona, Jeff Mills and “Mad Mike Banks” were together again for an epic performance called “X-102, Rediscovers the Rings of Ass. Cult. Dancity Via Monte S. Always busy, Jeff Mills is currently involved in numerous projects, including several film soundtracks in collaboration with Cinematheque and Cité de la Musique in Paris. Underground Resistance back in Italy after ten years Underground Resistance are returning to Italy after 10 years with their project called “Timeline”, on Saturday, July 4th, in the beautiful courtyard of Palazzo Trinci. There’s a musical chain running from the past through the present and into the future. The links in that chain, what holds things together, is the Timeline. High tech jazz for forward thinking music lovers, Timeline has taken on many forms, most recently as the linking of Underground Resistance founder Mad Mike with Jon Dixon, keyboardist, and De’Sean Jones, saxophonist, both from the supergroup Galaxy 2 Galaxy. Joined by UR DJ/producer Mark Flash, these four take elements of jazz and techno and combine them into something familiar, yet different. Once upon a time, jazz was the definition of innovation, dominating the dance clubs and opening people’s minds to infinite possibilities. It is in that spirit that Timeline continues the push forever forward! Cabaret Voltaire announce a new date at Dancity Festival Following on from successful performances at Berlin Atonal on August 2014, Lev Festival (Gijón) on Northern Spain and Villette Sonique in Paris on may 2015, Cabaret Voltaire announce a new date at the Dancity Festival in Foligno, Italy, on the 3rd of July. With a line up now consisting solely of machines, multi-screen projections and Richard H Kirk, the live show will feature exclusively new material and no nostalgia. Post-punk pioneers Cabaret Voltaire has been at the electronic movement forefront since the 1970s. Their electronic music varies from post-punk to avant-garde to dance. The audio-visual performance at Dancity Festival, with the closing set by Italian DJ Vincenzo Viceversa, promises to be something relevant to Cabaret Voltaire in the 21st Century. The closing event, presented by Red Bull Music Academy The festival’s last day will be presented by Red Bull Music Academy, which has been Dancity's partner for many years now cooperating in special events. For this tenth edition, RBMA will sponsor the festival's closing event, that will take place on Sunday, July 5, from 3 pm at a special, exclusive location: Scacciadiavoli Winery in Montefalco, just a short drive from Foligno. The winery, deep in the green Umbrian hills and surrounded by the prestigious Sagrantino and Montefalco Rosso vineyard rows, will host performances as well as cocktails and wine tastings. Sunday's very special guest will be the legendary Roy Ayers, a key figure in acid jazz, known for the genre’s contaminations with hip-hop and funk. This will be Ayer's sole live show in Italy, with a unique performance encompassing voice, vibraphone and other instruments. The American DJ/producer duo Soul Clap will also perform on day 3, with their experimental mixture of house, disco, funk and jazz references, as well as Jolly Mare, one of the Academy’s best talents, who will embark on a musical journey approaching different nuances of the dancefloor, such as Italo Disco, downtempo and funk-tinged synthpop.
