TUESDAY, 19 DECEMBER, 2017 RL: The vibes surrounding the stock by Muhaarar at the foal MUHAARAR=S EARLY sales was incredibly strong and I envision it being the same next year at the yearling sales. The demand for stock by first-season SUCCESS FOR SHADWELL sires is phenomenally strong for some reason and shows little sign of waning, so pinhookers will have a hot commodity on their hands next year. GK: Shadwell signed for one at Goffs (i340,000 colt {lot 575} out of Miss Beatrix {Ire}), and one at Tattersalls (280,000gns filly {lot 983} out of Maakrah {GB}). What attracted you to those two in particular? RL: The Miss Beatrix colt was a standout. He had plenty of scope, but was also particularly athletic with a super walk. He was also beautifully bred, out of G1 Moyglare Stud S. winner Miss Beatrix. The filly was also a beauty, with a fantastic walk and great temperament--which Muhaarar appears to have passed on to the majority of his stock--and also had a super Muhaarar | Shadwell page, being out of a half-sister to Iffraaj (GB) from the family of Cape Cross (Ire). Cont. p2 by Gary King Muhaarar (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB})'s first foals made a favourable impression with some of the industry's top judges over recent weeks. Hugo Lascelles, Shadwell Estate, Blandford Bloodstock, Capital Bloodstock, Tally-Ho Stud, New Park Stud, James Hanly, Cheveley Park Stud, Peter & Ross Doyle, and Camas Park Stud all signed on the dotted line. TDN's Gary King caught up with Richard Lancaster, Shadwell's Stud Director, to get an insight into this early success.

FRIDAY, 2 OCTOBER 2020 NO LOVE IN RAIN-HIT ARC OASIS DREAM FILLY TOPS With France blighted by persistent rain and more in the CHALLENGING ORBY SALE forecast, there will be no Love (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in Sunday=s i3,000,000 G1 Qatar Prix de l=Arc de Triomphe as the withdrawal of the G1 1000 Guineas, G1 Epsom Oaks and G1 Yorkshire Oaks heroine left 14 to attempt to mount a challenge to Enable (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}). As well as being graced with that news, Juddmonte=s superstar mare also drew a favourable berth in five as she looms ever closer to her historic bid for a third renewal of the ParisLongchamp feature. Her stablemate Stradivarius (Ire) (Sea the Stars {Ire}) fared far worse from the draw and Bjorn Nielsen=s champion stayer will exit from stall 14 with only the supplemented Serpentine (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) positioned wider. Ballydoyle=s streamlined force also includes the likely pace-setter Sovereign (Ire) in 10, Japan (GB) in 11 and Mogul (GB) in three, with Ryan Moore now switching to the latter of the remaining Galileos. Jean-Claude Rouget=s duo Sottsass (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}) and Raabihah (Sea the Stars {Ire}) will break from four and two respectively. By the end of last century, people began to question the prevailing view that animals are inferior to humans, and thus a re-examination of existing relationships between humans and animals has been sought. An immediate outcome of this critical undertaking has been the raising of ethical questions regarding the involvement of animals in sports. As part of this, the discipline of sports dressage has been subject to heavy cri- ticism. Today, within both contemporary theoretical discourses and equestrian practices, greater focus is placed on the horse’s own subjectivity, along with its own field of experiences and its own perspective. Due to this, it is possible to index how it is that: traditional equestrian cultures are today in transition. At least in Europe, the development of teaching in riding has its roots in tradi- tional military discourse, which assumed the horse to be an instrument rather than a sensitive, feeling animal, and therefore considered the horse to be under the com- mand of the rider.
